Whaddya know about Concordia-Chicago?

Not much, except that they are almost certainly the worst #2 seed in d3 history.  I'd predict a 40 point win by Bethel.

Here are stats on Concordia-Chicago:

Really can't complain about UST's bracket. SNC and Coe can always cause trouble, but I like the draw. Linfield, UW-Oshkosh and who knows, if Bethel gets on a roll they can raise some eyebrows too. Could be an interesting tournament without UW-W.

If it's OK with everyone over there, SNC will bringing its hockey team instead!

Kidding aside, congrats to the Tommies on a good season and I hope SNC is more than a speedbump for you.

No doubt SNC will be taken very seriously.

Bethel in, Cobbers out.
Ouch baby...very ouch.
that end of game penalty vs Bethel has proved to be the most costly penalty ever.

The most costly penalty is being in a strong conference, an even stronger region and getting hosed by the selection committee of a playoff spot.

2 ROR losses by a combined 15 points.  We can talk about the bethel game penalty that was/wasn't a forward pass all day, but its in the past and it was a loss (with an asterisk)! ;D

I thought the cobbers had more convincing wins over teams in the MIAC than BU did this season.  BU scrapped by Auggie Tech, Cord and SJU.  Not to mention got shell shocked by UST.  They also lost to a non ROR opponent a week ago.  I guess I am surprised the only team in the top 25 not in the playoffs in Concordia.

Was the committee under pressure from the NCAA to not have 3 teams from one conference in the playoffs?  I just figured to have a great playoff bracket you would want the best of the best teams from D3.

Good Luck to the MIAC teams in the playoffs.  Have a wonderful winter MIAC PP's!  See you in the fall of 2013.

Are the Cobbers, Pioneers and Thunder better than a number of teams in the field. Yep. No arguments here, but that's the system we've got.

It's not a selection of the best 32 teams in the nation. It's a national tournament which has representation from the qualifying conference champions and then the other "best of" teams to fill the field. And, while this I would guess that the second-place WIAC team would indeed beat some of the others - but as you say, that's the system.

They're not just better than a lot of the AQs, they're also better than Bridgewater, using the official criteria or d3football.com rankings.

Yeah, that's the one that really hurts. An extra NEFC sacrificial lamb over a Cobber team that would have probably gotten a tough Rd 1 draw but would have given someone a run for their money.

Alright,

So in 100 words or less, what's the scuttlebutt on St. Norbit (worst move ever), Coe (does Fred Jackson have eligibility left?), and Elmhurst?

Thanks.

SNC rebounded from a disappointing opening season loss. Pretty good team from a very 'meh' conference. UST should win comfortably.

Coe. Best team going away in the IIAC, but the conference as a whole is down. They are unbeaten, have playmakers on both sides of the ball (maybe the best DB in D3). Real question is how good they are, since the down IIAC means they really haven't had to beat/play anyone yet.

Elmhurst. Pretty good team from a very good conference with probably the best RB in D3 (Scotty Williams). On the whole I don't think they have the juice to go deep. But with a freakish athlete and pretty solid supporting cast, they can definitely make a run. Not sure they have the balance or the D to get past Rd 2 though.
