ESPN Films is running the Alabama-Auburn rivalry documentary Roll Tide/War Eagle-this is the definition of entertainment.
The fans are "passionate" to say the least.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Thanks to UST SID Gene McGivern for joining us on the show tonight.  Great perspective on the history of the MIAC and UST for us "east" fans.  Also a good preview of the Hobart-UST matchup, including some hijinks at a NBA game, so if you missed it, check the archive at www.inthehuddlle.com

Retagent, I agree on liking the idea of a former power returning to prominence but I'd rather not bring in a tough-guy coach who wants to change the culture and instill discipline and yada yada and thinks it's a good idea to send a kid up to his death on a windy day just so they can tape practice and get used to playing in the elements.

That said, I hope Notre Dame wins it all. Sick of the SEC.

Gee, that's reading an awful lot into my musing about a Johnnie revival. ;) Sounds like there's a nerve I touched. Not to say that there isn't some serious soul searching to be done in South Bend regarding a lack of judgement.

Anybody got any idea what Mike Grant might mean by SJU needing to demonstrate a "Solid Commitment?"
I've got my own thoughts which I will be glad to share when I have time.  I'm wondering what others think?

Money.  Mostly for full time assistants.
Ability to name his own staff.  All of it.
Keep John involved.  Talk to recruits, analyze tape, etc.
No more "open your program to page...."  :o

That's what I'd want were I as qualified as Mike.

I reckon that point right there is the one for us to keep our ears open for.  No matter who comes on board, if the coach accepts a position where he cannot manage the program as he wants then we're probably in for a good period of painful performance.  Either back your man or don't.  Kings 3:16-28.  We've pretty much had this problem worked out for almost 3000 years.

Oz,
I know you can gloss this past most of the Roman Catholics here (I'm a Lutheran married to a Roman Catholic) but the guys from Bethel will hammer you on this point, I Kings or II Kings? I Kings uses the parable of the two women with babies and one baby dies and she tries to switch it in the night with the living baby and II Kings refers to going to war.I believe you are trying to get us to understand if we accept the "dead baby" as our own then we should get used to  3-5 MIAC seasons for some time to come. The status quo can not remain, and I agree. We will need to do the best we can with the team we have currently, but the recruiting needs to step up about 4 notches.

On an unrelated topic, how long can Jerry Kill continue to coach with his current medical condition? Just from reading about his seizures in the newspaper,it appears they are becoming more frequent. I feel bad for the guy. If he would have a heart attack or stroke during one of these seizures would the university have any responsibility because they kept him in a position with a high stress level? I'm not a Dr. or a lawyer but it seems like this could end in a very sad situation.

A buddy emailed this to me a few minutes ago...
Caller on KFAN this morning (paraphrased):  "They need to let Frazier go and replace him with Jerry Kill.  Kill has to be the best coach n MN football history.  After all, he is the only one that they have carried off the field."
OUCH...

Pretty sure Kill was sent over the edge after receiving AJ Barker's parting love note.

Dead babies. Biblical warnings. This coaching search is getting terrifying. The Four Horsemen will be next, I suppose, and I'm not talking about Kent Crowley's relative or Ric Flair's gang.

Maybe Oz means goiing to war with dead babies as weaponry? or he is going to war over dead babies? I defer to the Bethelites for definitive Biblical interpretations  :)

For all you Johnnies drawing parallels (of hope) between UND's restored glory and SJU-- refer to the time ND hired a HS coach.... is this what you're expecting of Grant? and PLEASE dont compare John's wit and humor with the feeble corn Lou Holtz spews out. John is on a level with Seinfeld, Holtz is amateur night at the Improv  :)

Congrats to Bethel on another nice season. You had me hoping at halftime.

I am interested to see how the Tommies fare on Saturday-Hobart looks to be a formidable foe. Appears that the UST run defense will be tested again.

From Charley Walters 11/24/12 column...'You can bet that Mike Grant, 55, who on Friday coached Eden Prairie to an eighth large-school football state title, won't take the St. John's coaching job unless he's convinced the program has a chance to compete with St. Thomas.'

As a Tommie supporter, that puts a smile on my face. I'm thankful UST was able to send Gags into retirement on the heels of losing 3 straight too!

A good week of practice & healing to GC & crew!

I'm splitting' babies, man.  It's a question of which whooore do we go with: the honest one or the compromiser. If we pick the compromiser then I hope we at least get the right hand side of the little tot.

I'd give Augsburg a little more credit for the "early" retirement than UST.  At least with St. Thomas you could point to superior facilities as part of the reason they passed you by.  Augsburg wasn't considered to be a sleeping giant, they were a sleeping dwarf that woke up and ran all over you.  The rest of the losses were within 10 points.
