Should be doing my early morning email routine, but instead I'm here and thinking of Johnnies.  Anyway, Frank Rajkowski just posted an interesting tweet:

An update: As of this afternoon, St. John's AD Tom Stock said the school has received 12 completed applications for FB job and 50 inquiries

(I'm still stuck on the requirement for computer skills.  It's slowing me down.)

EDIT: As an afterthought, and maybe Pat or one of the d3football guys can answer this, I wonder how many applications are typical for a DIII position.  Do these tend to be an "every man and his dog" type exercise?  I wonder if we get more or less applications seeing the shoes that are being filled.  Mike Grant is all over the press trying to lap the field before the choice is made (maybe a bit uncharitable, but I'm on a roll) so anyone applying must be comparing their resume to his.  And his is impressive.  I wonder how that and the legacy affect the number and quality of applications the selection committee is seeing.

They do often tend to be that way. I would expect 100-200 for an attainable decent job. Many people may see this job as not gettable, but the allure might lead people at scholarship levels to apply for this job where they might not usually apply for a D-III job.

I heard from a former U of M player that Gordy Shaw may have interviewed yesterday.  That seems a tad early in the process.

Any thoughts on who the other 8 applicants might be?
I'm guessing maybe one of the current UST assistant coaches, possibly a D2 coordinator or two from the region (UMD, SCSC), maybe a successful coach at a private high school (would have "recruiting" experience...right?), possibly another successful high school coach.

16 point lead - keep it going  8-)

Out to 35.  Must have been that halftime adjustment which is getting Gags ahead.

I posted the link.story on the John Gagliardi facebook page.  Since then he's been pulling away. ;D

Sadly, the ROR bump has been thwarted by a triple-digit Welch surge during a 10-minute period.  ;D

OZ Just played golf with two guys who just got back from Australia/New Zealand. Both loved it.

One, on the recommendation of a driver, went to  St Pauls Cathedral (I believe that I'm right) where they had close ties, and offered prayers, with some U. S. Marines when they were there getting ready for Guadalcanal. They went, watched a video presentation, and one of the guy's dads pops up on the screen. He had been a Marine in WW II, and was one of the Marines there. He recognized the picture since he and his family had just gone through some old stuff. He was blown away, as was his dad, when he told him about it. If he hadn't been prompted to go, he would have missed it all. What are the odds, and what a story.

Nice article from the Star Tribune on UST's QB Matt O'Connell.  Sheds a little light on Caruso's ability to spot good players early in their prep careers.

Also, a little preview of the UST vs. Hobart game with Caruso and Braddock:

Retagent;

I love those small world stories. I've never looked at that display at St Paul's. I'll have to make a day of it.

I have two small world stories from my time here in Melbourne. One is about 15 years ago I'm playing indoor cricket and a girl spots me wearing a Grand Rapids HS Indians t-shirt. Turns out her best friend in a girl that lived in GR for a year way back in the 8th grade. I knew that girl because she lived next to one of my best friends.

The other is that friends of ours that we met here in Melbourne about 10 years ago had a car break down on them during a trip across America and they spent two nights at the Sawmill in GR waiting on repairs just one week before my wife an I got married in GR. It's an amazingly small world.

Nothing however close to the small planet burger served at the Good Earth in Edina.

And please committee... no Gordie Shaw.

Wow!  The attendee list for the SJU Football Coach Open Forum & Luncheon is growing quite large already!
I have it on good authority that Frank R. from SCTimes will make every attempt to Tweet during the event  8-)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Coach Gagliardi made it to the second round in the fan poll-bracket that tries to determine the best college football coach of all time.  This round he is up against George Welch of Navy/Virginia [seriously?].  The voting goes on until this Friday and you can re-vote every ten minutes.  [Or more often if you router cycles addresses, like mine does  8-)]

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/colleges/articles/20121121best-college-football-coach-pollbracket.html

I've already voted 60+ times and he is only breaking even ... I need some help!

Indeed, George -- two conference title in close to 20 years -- Welch? Give me a break. Time to vote early, often.

Well, it's already a joke.  George Welch actually won over Frank Leahy in the first round - and numerous other head scratchers (Bear Bryant, Woody Hayes and Ara Parseghian also bounced in round 1).

The majority of the people voting probably never even heard of those dinosaurs.   ;D

which is why I find votes like this (or EPSN's current one "greatest athlete of all time") to be bogus and meaningless.  Yes, Neon Deon and Bo Jackson were talented athletes, but to mention them in the same breath as Jim Thorpe is ignorance. And to even put Michael Jordan on the ballot is comical (great great hoops player, mediocre at best in baseball and golf)
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Pat,

I realize this may seem like looking way too far in advance for a Tommie fan, but I'm not a player and not superstious so, what the heck, is it 100% etched in stone that the Stagg Bowl is being played on Friday night instead of the traditional Saturday noonish start?

I ask becaue my wife's dumb work decided to schedule its dumb Christmas party on the 14th, and I need to start figuring out an exit strategy if the game (regardless of who is in it) is that night.

Because this was discussed here, and you always here the charges but not always the dismissals...all charges against Mankato coach Todd Hoffner dismissed. Everything I've seen on the case, seemed like absolutely the right call. Unfortunately too late for his reputation and, possibly, career.

Yeah, I saw that as well...what a shame how he was dragged through the mud on this.

For the legal minds out there (Bench?, JJR?) are there ever any consequences for prosecutors in a situation like this?  I of course remember the Duke Lacrosse rape case and how he was dis-barred, etc, but will the prosecutor in this case ever have to pay the piper for his actions in throwing a seriously mis-aimed wrench into Hoffner's life?
