Just heard some sad news...former Tommie gridder, Jamie Messina passed away suddenly last week at the young age of 38. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Jamie was a good man and will be missed by many. Prayers to his family, especially his daughter Ann and her mother, Amanda.

tmerton,
Now that Monsoon season has arrived in NoCal,are the nudists in the city wearing raincoats & galoshes?  ;D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

dlippiel

Dlip just wanted to come over from the LLPP and wish the Tommies and the Statesmen the best of luck today. Dlip is hoping for a competitive injury free game for both sides. Dlip   really doesn't know who to go with. He's a HUGE BART supporter but thinks the edge may go to UST. Who the **** knows, good luck to both and safe travels and Saturday for fans on both mother****in sides.

Good Luck to the Tommies, and here's hoping our Johnnies have a rebirth.

Just finished watching the California Inland Section Final. Vista Murrietta got beat 30 - 28, after two unsuccessful 2 point conversion attempts on thier last two scores. Let's hope that the VM pipeline continues. They have some VERY good players.

Couple quick questions about UST that I should probably just google.
1. Which St Thomas? Aquinas?
2. If Aquinas, us UST run by Dominicans? Some other order?

Pains me to admit it, but I'm hoping for a Johnnie revival myself-it's better for the conference/DIII as a whole.

Control the los today, protect the pill & limit the penalties and I like the Toms chances of reaching the semi's again. Expecting it to be a telling battle and hoping that both teams play their best and come out injury free! Roll Tommies, Roll!

which is why I find votes like this (or EPSN's current one "greatest athlete of all time") to be bogus and meaningless.  Yes, Neon Deon and Bo Jackson were talented athletes, but to mention them in the same breath as Jim Thorpe is ignorance. And to even put Michael Jordan on the ballot is comical (great great hoops player, mediocre at best in baseball and golf)

So very true. Jimmy Freaking Thorpe. The conversation begins and ends there. Great baseball player...check. Elite football player...check. Elite track and field athlete...check. The guy dominated several sports, as a minority, in a day when massive prejudice stood in his way (probably why his olympic medals were originally stripped). He won both the pentathlon and decathlon in the same olympics for crying out loud. He was also an accomplished pro-basketball player. Dude scored every single point (he never left the field as runningback, kicker, punter and DB) in an upset of Harvard back when Harvard was akin to Alabama. He was playing for tiny Carlisle Indian School, but his coach was pretty good...Pop Warner! Ike played against him and said Thorpe was superhuman, didn't even need to practice and was clearly the best athlete on the field at whatever position he chose to play.

Another all around athlete that doesn't get his due would be Jim Brown. Not only is he in the conversation for greatest football player ever, but he was incredible in lacrosse as well. If his 'other' sport had been as mainstream as baseball, we'd talk about him as one of the greatest ever as well.

Because this was discussed here, and you always here the charges but not always the dismissals...all charges against Mankato coach Todd Hoffner dismissed. Everything I've seen on the case, seemed like absolutely the right call. Unfortunately too late for his reputation and, possibly, career.

Excellent sfury! If we are going to comment on the charges, let's jump in when a guy gets exonerated as well. He'll never fully get his good name back, which is a shame. The social media landscape today means you are really only 'innocent until proven guilty' on paper. The court of public opinion decides these things in a consistently premature manner.

I hope Coach Hoffner and his wife and kids are able to move forward well after this and I wish them all the best.

I don't blame the IT guy for being concerned and contacting authorities.  At the same time there probably never should have been charges filed.  Hoffner's problems are far from over as the phone used to take the pictures was issued to him by the university...(his employer).  I would bet he violated acceptable use policies as they relate to university owned technology.  Like many I have a work issue laptop and do my best to use discretion with it.  Having nude images on a work issued phone or laptop is not a good idea.  It' my guess that he is dismissed from his job...maybe w/ a financial settlement...maybe not.
