Looking forward to watching the UWO/UST game. Just as long as they don't exclusively use the endzone cameras for the entire fourth quarter.  ::)

Yeah that was a really dumb line and as clueless as some of the Mount shots Keith mentioned.

Maybe it means John used the passive voice: "Guys, that game was won by us with some good defense." Should have been more active: "Guys, we won that game with good defense."

It means its a ridiculous column/podcast making assumptions about someone and someplace the writer has never been for no reason whatsoever.  He does it every week.

Okay good, I'm not alone.

I learned a while back, partially through the experience of D3boards, that if you truly don't care about or dislike something, best to (mostly) ignore it.

So St. Thomas. I was sandbagging a little with the pick; the safe bet was St. Thomas, but I thought they'd showed vulnerability against Elmhurst and Hobart was built to compete. If I had only D3football as my job I would break down tape of the O- and D-lines and get a better feel for if the teams could compete along the LOS.

But basically I should just look at the Elmhurst game as a product of CCIW-MIAC matching up, and always trust the conference rankings in quarterfinal games. MIAC > unless WIAC or Mount Union is playing. (or maybe Wesley, UMHB)

K-Mack,

I completely agree with your thinking that vulnerability was shown vs Elmhurst. I thought they'd win that game going away-no disrespect meant to Elmhurst. To say that I was more than slightly worried about the Hobart matchup coming into today would be an understatement.

I am very interested to see how the defense/defensive scheming matches up vs an outstanding Wara & crew.

They have some common opponents, and much more tape on each other I bet than Linfield and either of these teams would have.

I think it'll be a good matchup, even though a lot of the focus will be on the other side.

Ok Tommie fans, who would you rather play?

I'm guessing UWO since you get to stay in St. Paul. But that's also the more balanced offense...

Day late and a dollar short, but I would've preferred to see the Toms go to Linfield and beat them. They have some rather obnoxious posters who seem to think that they're the 2nd coming of UWW or Mt. U and it would've been enjoyable to see the Toms go there and silence some of that obnoxiousness. Guess we'll have to wait for that because UWO took care of that!
Most, if not all,  of the Cat posters are really great guys.  Back in 05, as the 04 National Champs, they came on our board and pounded us, as the upstart WIAC team that they were going to send home with a spanking.  After beating them, they came on the boards immediately and gave props to the boys and our program.  Go over to the WIAC board now and see how they did the same thing yesterday to the Titans. Not one mention of, "you didn't really win so much as the Cats lost," or a single whine about how the Cats just didn't play their best game.  They always give credit where credit is due and their posts are always classy in defeat.  Linfield's football program has a storied history with a very faithful fan base.  I was at our game with them in 05 and have gotten to know several of them behind the scenes and they couldn't be a more hospitable, kind group of fans!  Yes, a few of them post a little smack before a game but it is all in good fun.  The Cats, fans and coaching staff are the best group I know in D3, and as a Warhawk fan and a parent of an ex-player from 04 to 07 who traveled to every game,  I have met many.

Listen to 413 - OO. The Linfield fans I see on here seem to have some of the best attitudes of all. They give you "Da Bidness" before the game, but are most gracious after, win or lose. I think you need to have some perspective on the tone with which they post. Remember, they have one of, if not THE longest streak in college football. They aren't some jonny-come-lately's. They have had years of practice.

Some Tommie Talkers:

UST will play its 28th game in two seasons on Saturday.  That's nearly an extra season and gives them a large advantage over their other MIAC foes next year (granted Bethel has played bonus ball as well).  They have played 54 games in the last 4 years - I think that is tied for third with Wesley behind UWW and MTU.

Caruso was quoted after the game as saying the team has learned when to peak.  They are now accustomed to playing in December and through pressure packed games in November.  They've matured since 2009 when they never got out of the gates in their 13th and biggest game of the year at Linfield.

Is this UST team really that much better than Hobart?  If the prior two points hold any weight, my guess is that the score would have been closer had they played in the first round.  Is it fair to say UWO faces a similar cliff next weekend?

If you look at larger trends over the last ten years, the 2003 Johnnies seemingly saw no such cliff - which I'd attribute in part to the set of D2 transfers who brought with them a tireless 24/7 football mentality.

Why are the semifinal games at 2? Also, are they on espn3? I had heard rumors on the NWC board that they were...

Reusse tweeted yesterday that if the Tommies win next week Caruso will have increased his season victory total every year he's coached, which is obviously very impressive. Think he'll do good work at Augustana.

Double O, I think Johnnie fans had the same thought before the first time SJU played Linfield in 2002. "Phone it in," was the phrase of the day. But they're a great group, whether they win or lose. And they're maybe not at Mount-WWW level, but they are the last team to win a title other than those two, not to mention the decades of dominance.

Start time is at 2 pm (unless you look at the UST site where it is listed as 230)--- I assume this is to give 'CCO more time for its expanded pregame show (sarcasm). Word I've heard is it is possible the game might be televised on 45, same for the Stagg Bowl should UST get past UW-O...one game at a time, MM, one game at a time
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Haha. I think it'd have to be a better gig to uproot his family than a NSIC school in South Dakota that probably wouldn't even pay him what he's making right now.

Unless we're talking about the other Augustana, in which I would say most definitely not happening.

It has been about a decade long fanmance between SJU and Linfield for whatever reason Double OO.

I assume the bitterness with UST is analogous to going to the airport to pick up your girlfriend and instead her roommate shows up and whispers, "She's not coming...she's never coming back."

Oh, and it may not be UST's year, but at least we still get to try to figure it out.

Still sore from yesterday's loss DC1? Your post proves my point exactly. The arrogance spewed from some of you is nauseating. Would've loved for my Tommies to have the chance to piss in your Wheaties, but your boys couldn't take care of business enough to allow for that. Enjoy the offseason-you just woke up to it! "Phone it in."
