Great stat in the Triple Take:

Quote
Since 1992, the Purple Raiders are 29-2 against first-time opponents in the postseason — UW-LaCrosse in 1992 and Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2004 are the lone winners — and in that span they have scored 50+ points 12 times while giving up less than 10 points 12 times.

So in other words, that's good news for St. Thomas!

29-2 is a .935 winning percentage

Based on my math, Mount is 254-10 in all other games since the start of 1992, a winning percentage of .963. (If we go post-1992 the percentage barely changes)

YES,  slim and none :-* :P
I believe those are the same odds you gave SJU in 2003.

Just like the Johnnies to announce on Stagg Bowl day... but I guess they've got nothing else going on.   :P

Yep, I'm sure it was planned that way. But St. John's is only the first school to rain on your parade today.
I'd hardly call what will be a 3-line blurb on page 2 of tomorrow's Stib "raining on a parade"... its tacky but expected. I mean, your hoops team just lost to Martin Luther (which is the equivelant of a football loss to Northwester!) and golf is in its off-seson  :)  :)  :)

in a meaningless non-conference game against a team we swept soundly in conference games (ie, the ones that count)?  :)  :)

Certainly better odds than his squad has!

Interesting post from the Iowa board.  I'm too lazy to build a table for the MIAC.  St. John's does not report as only co-educational institutions need to report for Title IX purposes.

Money, money, money, money, MOney.

U$T.  Glad to see my donations going to the right place.  :-\

Curious with the UMHB stat how much of that difference has to do with renting out a stadium to play in for those years and how much of it has to do with money spent on building their new stadium set to open in the fall.

tommiegun

Is it a football only stadium? If not the school would be wise to allocate that expense to the athletics budget, generally, to the extent allowable under Title IX.

jaypeter

Not sure if it's intended to be football only.  However, if you read the info on the new stadium webpage, it does seem to repeatedly refer to it as a football stadium or to watching football games.  I don't remember other sports being mentioned directly.

Man...a tragedy like today's sure puts things into perspective...Dan Barreiro is definitely right on when he refers to sporting news as "the toy department" in comparisson to real world events.

I don't have any kids, but my wife teaches at an elementary school...I can't even begin imagine the pain of hearing about something like this happening where you had loved ones...let alone if one of those loved ones were hurt.

What a shame.  May God comfort all of those who were connected to this...

Retired Old Rat

I believe I read that the UMHB stadium would also be used for soccer.

UMHB seems to travel to far away games with some regularity.  I'm sure that's part of it.

But, wow, that is a big number.
