Oh I don't know...  Does Mount ever have player transfer in from scholarship schools?  Then they had some sort of contact with them....

I wasn't accusing SJU of anything, just a question.

I know, I was just responding highlighting that Mount does have kids that were on scholarship on their team too.
The last shall be first and the  shall be... FIRST AGAIN!!!

Whoever St. John's chooses, lets all just hope that he starts off right where (rather than looking a few years back) Coach G left off in the Tommie/Johnnie game...

Something that popped into my head last night.  Say that Grant were offered the job and accepted.  I wonder if Fasching will hang around or if he's got his eye on any other HC vacancies?

A tradition unrivaled...

I think you're giving them too much credit, Oz.  I think they will make a choice quickly.

Also if there are any JC players who may transfer to D-II or D-I schools, they have until Jan. 15 to sign National Letter of Intent. I understand there is no NLI for D-III,but to rule this out (JC transfers) a new coach will need to have some time. I know this would be out of the norm for SJU but the new rules of recruiting are that you have to think outside the box if you are going to make an impact. There have to be a handful of kids at The North Dakota State College of Science that could make grades at MIAC schools & NDSCS has been a feeder program for many D-II schools in the midwest for years/ I'm just sayin'

105, This is an outstanding suggestion...

I will say I've long wished SJU would look at the community college ranks more. I say that as a proud community colleger (is that a word? I don't know, I went to CC.) who transferred in my junior year. There are a lot of great players at the JUCO level, in all sports (Minnesota especially has some really good football teams each year, such as Rochester). And those schools have plenty of guys who are strong enough academically to transfer in, but financially couldn't pull off SJU for four years. One issue for those transfers could be adjusting to being an outsider in your junior year. I had some of that, since SJU is so big on building those bonds for students (we played games together at orientation!...or whatever), especially in the freshman year. But if it's a kid coming for football, it'll be easier to find a connection in a crowd of 200 -- and no problem at all if you can play.

Given that SJU tried to upstage the Stagg with their announcement of the final 4 candidates, isn't it only logical to announce the hiring the morning of 12/25? I mean, it's got to be that important, right?

;D

Don't forget, these are the guys with a #1 in their logo.

From Thom Woodward, Mr. Johnnie, who conceived the SJU logo with a #1 in the logo:

The 1 isn't to proclaim that SJU is Number One, but it serves as a reminder that Johnnies should strive to be the best on the playing field, in the classroom, as employers/employees, as men, as husbands, as fathers.  Like in the Johnnie Fight Song:  Show the world what SJU can do.

Another college job in Minnesota just opened up and it's a good one.  UMD coach accepts position with Western Illinois.  Reusse says:

Yes, but he's not leaving for D-II. Maybe 1-AA. @darbywisdom Do you think UMD will call Caruso?

"I'm a uniter...not a divider."

johnnie_esq

With the UMD job opening up today, might a D3 coach get a call to lead a D2 power?

(Paging Mr. Caruso...pick up the maroon phone....)

I thought I sent you an e mail that said my guess was 1?11/13. I assume you didn't get it because you said there were no after the first guesses.

Oops.  Sorry about that, retagent.  You've got the 11th and the winner, I bet.

I remember that one. But don't forget the first part, where he got pancake blocked and then found a gift sitting on the ground next to him. Ugly memory though  >:(
