Repete;

I just got an official email from SJU making the coaching announcement. Congratulations!  It was a hard fought, tough competition. Tell us: how did you know to pick this date and who inspired you to be so clever?

(And send me a PM with you details. It's Saturday here so I can drop your prize at the post office this afternoon.)

Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Interesting...seems that he wasn't necessarily the favorite of the posters on this board as people wanted things shaken up a bit.  I'm sure we'll never know, but I wonder if Grant was offered the job, but the deal ($$) wasn't sweet enough to pull him from his comfy gig in EP.

I'd heard rumblings he was the pick but they were debating resources, etc. Who knows, but Frank's tweet makes me think...

Oz was right. Fasching.

Does this mean Jimmy G stays on staff? ;)

Lord, I hope not.

Perhaps instead of my fellow Johnnies trying to find Glenn Caruso a FCS job, we should be focusing our efforts on finding Jimmy a nice head coaching position somewhere new.

Oh, I don't know. Assume grant was the most expensive  that fact doesn't make him the best.  Also, everything is relative. Even if Grant was the most expensive that doesn't lead to the conclusion that Fasching was cheap. More than the dollar amount the committee may have been swayed by the way the candidates proposed to spend the money. Maybe Fasching's plan was more compelling on the merits other than price. In fact, I bet it was.

Majorly disappointed that they didn't hire Grant.  If the program's been falling off the last 3 years, why does it make sense to hire from within?  I think we may be in for a STU-esqe stage of mediocrity as when they had Don Roney and Mal Scanlan both of whom, I believe, had been assistant coaches.  Probably burned bridges with Grant and Ramler.  I'm sure Gary's a good coach but recruiting, which he's been in charge of, has fallen off massively and I think Grant would have sparked much more enthusiasm and would have done some different things with recruiting.  Too bad.

Congrats to Gary!  I'm uber excited to see what 2013 brings!!!  :D  (Hopefully, a departure for Jimmy)

I think Gary's first order of business as head coach should be to grow back his moustache!

That doesn't seem like the best move-time will tell. Wasn't he the guy already recruiting the players SJU has now that couldn't make plays?

That should be the first topic in the press conference.

I agree with pretty much everything here, Chewey (although very smart guys on this board like Johnnie ESQ really made me think about other possibilities). Like I told someone, Larry Kehres has been a longtime assistant too. That turned out all right. Then again, so had Roney. But Scanlan, I think, was the longtime, highly successful coach at Cretin-Derham Hall before taking over as head coach at St. Thomas, which does show it's not easy being great at one level and taking it to the other.

But yeah, I wanted Grant or Ramler. But a lot of people who know more than me have a lot of trust in Fasching, so I look forward to great successes.

Great tweet from Reusse, regarding Grant withdrawing:

He also recruited the guys from the late '90s and early '00s...Tom Linneman, Blake Elliot, Jeremy Hood, Cam McCambridge, Damien Dumonceaux...  :o
