How's the ICE fishing boys?  any luck?  Weather on the sea shore's of old mexico is just great.. :P :-* we have  found a whole bucket of big sand dollars..  ;D fishing reports soon. 8-)
DC-Uno,
The bite is mixed,depending on time of day & depth of water. Some nice Crappies & Walleyes reported locally (Western Suburbs)-we have 14" of ice, so you can drive your truck on the ice if you are brave & keep your windows rolled down incase you have to bail-out  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Very good, AO.

I made my best efforts on your karma this year but I only managed to knock off about 13 points.  It may take me a couple more years to get you down to -850.

gotta love Senile Sid...

How long before we can refer to you as Senile Rich?  ;D
You can refer to me as that once Lil Duff dons UST purple and wins a national championship  :)

Lil' Duff only dons one kind of Purple and that is Raider Purple and he has already got a National Championship in it. ;)

+k for that one.

I noticed that Searching for Bigfoot was on one of the cable channels I don't watch over the New Years weekend.  I was tempted to tune in and see if Big John was part of the program.

1) Will LK still be around to coach him in another 17 years?
2) Nevermind, I will never be able to afford college then.

Bending the no-politics rule for a bit of beltway gossip: former Johnnie dback Denis McDonough is reportedly in the final cut for the soon-to-be-open White House chief of state job.

Duffman. Spend a few months thinking about this question: what differences could we expect from the Fasching Johnnies?  Could it be a back to basics?  Could it be a reduced bench?  No names on helmets?

There are a whole heap of changes that are possible. If you're in the mood come September first, maybe you're up for a post on the subject where you can show some sublime skills of prognostication.

I still think you'll see a large roster and names on helmets.  As he's said, I think Fasch will run a more structured practice.  I wouldn't expect tackling dummies or blocking sleds, but I imagine that he'll probably run practices with a little higher tempo and do some more focusing on fundamentals.  I also foresee more focus on strength training.  Gary is a big proponent of the weight room.  I think you'll see a renewed concentration on discipline.  John was a stickler for this, but it seemed to be lacking in recent years.  Gary expects a lot from his players.  He always said that it's okay to make a mistake, but you had better not make it twice.  I think you'll see a head coach that wears a head-set during games.  :D

Of course, this is all speculation.  The last down I played was in 2002!  :o

Thanks, Duff.  We'll see how you go.

In other football news, the AFL schedulers are mean bastards and have handed Hawthorn the toughest schedule ever faced by any team in the history of any sport.  The Hawks play the seven other playoff teams in the first seven rounds, culminating with a Grand Final rematch against Sydney in round seven.  And they play Collingwood (4th in last year's standings and preliminary finalist), Geelong (6th in standings), Perth (5th in standings) and Sydney (3rd in standing and Grand Final winner) each twice.

Unbelievable.

EDIT:  As a note, the AFL Preliminary Finals are what the rest of the world calls the semi finals.  And the AFL Semi Finals are a sort of double elimination round.  And the AFL have two earlier playoff rounds called Qualifying (double elimination games) and Elimination (single elimination games) to start the playoffs.  It's an odd playoff structure that took me a while to come to grips with and accept as legitimate.

It goes like this:

* Top 8 teams make the post-season

Week One:
* Qualifying Finals
   * 1 plays 4, winner gets bye-week and loser goes to a Semi Final
   * 2 plays 3, winner gets bye-week and loser goes to a Semi Final
* Elimination Finals
   * 5 plays 8, winner goes to a Semi Final and the loser is out
   * 6 plays 7, winner goes to a Semi Final and the loser is out

Week Two:
* Semi Finals (QF winners have a bye this round)
   * Highest ranked QF loser plays lowest ranked EF winner, winner to Prelimary Final and loser is out
   * Lowest ranked QF loser plays highest ranked EF winner, winner to Prelimary Final and loser is out

Week Three:
* Preliminary Finals
   * Highest ranked QF winner plays lowest ranked SF winner unless they have already played in the post season in which case the match-ups are switched.  Winner to the Grand Final and loser is out
   * Lowest ranked QF winner plays highest ranked SF winner unless they have already played in the post season in which case the match-ups are switched.  Winner to the Grand Final and loser is out

Week Four:
* Grand Final
   * There are only two teams left so match-ups are straight forward, but...
   * If the Grand Final ends in a tie there is no overtime.  Instead the match is played again the next week.  This has happened a few times, the last time two years ago with Collingwood and St Kilda.

Only a bunch of guys drunk and dehydrated from a long day in the sun could have come up with such a playoff algorithm.

and the prognosticators thought the Vikings would roll over the Colts early in the season while losing their last 4 games against the likes of the Bears, Texans and Packers.  Time to get tough Hawthorn!

The entire MIAC (including MAC) beat Hamline...isn't it time for MAC to get back to playing football in the league again?  I feel like I've beat this drum a few times?
