Sorry, off topic here.

Does SJU air their football games?

Yes. There is a live stream of the radio broadcasts for every game.
We're still trying to twist some arms to get a full video webcast.

Video broadcast is what I meant. thank you

Yeah. The lack of a live video webcast is a bit of a sore subject for my fellow Johnnies and I on the board.
But, with the new head coach and staff, we are cautiously optimistic about the possibility of it being a new part of the program in 2013.

As Dusty would say:

Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Ramler '97 Named SJU Associate Head Football Coach & Offensive Coordinator, Rest of 2013 Staff Announced

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University head football coach Gary Fasching named Kurt Ramler, a 1997 SJU graduate and recent finalist for the Johnnies' head-coaching vacancy, as associate head coach and offensive coordinator on Thursday, Jan. 10.

Ramler, who is expected to begin his full-time post Jan. 14, compiled a 22-38 record as head coach at Carleton for six seasons from 2006-11. He was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Coach of the Year in 2008 after leading Carleton to a 7-3 record, its best season since 1992.

"Kurt is a young, energetic and innovative coach who will bring great enthusiasm and experience to our program," Fasching said. "He is also a proven recruiter and will attract quality student-athletes to Saint John's. I am very excited to have him join our staff."

Prior to Carleton, Ramler served as an offensive assistant at four institutions, including a one-year stint at SJU (2002). He was the offensive coordinator at Heidelberg (Ohio) from 2003-05, coached wide receivers at Division I-FCS Wagner (N.Y.) in 2001, and coached quarterbacks and wide receivers at Hamilton (N.Y.) for two seasons from 1999-2000. Ramler served as a head coach in Europe during the summers of 1999 and 2000 with the Graz Giants (Austrian League) and the Prague Panthers (Czech League), respectively.

Following three seasons as the Johnnies' starting quarterback, Ramler ended his career as the school's all-time leader in pass attempts (927), pass completions (525), passing yards (8,134), 300-yard passing games (8), passing touchdowns (87) and wins as a starter (27-3-1 record) before Alex Kofoed (2004-07) surpassed each mark. He was named the MIAC's Most Valuable Player, a Gagliardi Trophy finalist and an Academic All-American as a senior in 1996.

In regard to the rest of the coaching staff, Jerry Haugen returns for his 38th season as SJU's defensive coordinator in 2013. Jim Gagliardi will now serve as an offensive assistant coach and move into a new leadership position within the program as the Johnnies' coordinator of football operations. Brandon Novak will move back to the defensive side of the ball following a one-year stint with the running backs as a defensive coordinator with Haugen. Damien Dumonceaux, meanwhile, gains recruiting-coordinator duties in addition to his guidance on the defensive line.

"I am extremely happy that we were able to keep a talented and dedicated coaching staff in place," Fasching said. "These are coaches who have been a part of many wins here at Saint John's and I am going to depend on all of them. I feel this is a great staff and we will all work together to continue the great tradition established here at SJU.

"The pieces have been put in place by our administration, now it is our job to move forward and get the job done on the field."

A full list of the 2013 staff and their individual bios is below.

The Johnnies have posted a 322-80-5 (.797) overall record and a 256-52-4 (.827) MIAC record in the 37 seasons with Haugen as a defensive coach. Since 1978, his defense has finished in the top two of the MIAC in total defense 18 times, including eight of the past 11 seasons, and in scoring defense 22 times, including 14 of the past 17 seasons. A 1976 graduate of Saint John's, Haugen was a four-year starter and gained All-MIAC honors as a defensive back in 1975. He ranks second on the school's career interception list with 15. Haugen also serves as the University's head baseball coach, where he boasts a 665-567-5 (.540) career record, which places him in the top 25 on the NCAA Division III active coaches' win list. He became the 19th active NCAA Division III coach to reach 600 wins and 31st all-time in Division III history in 2010. The Johnnies have made five MIAC Tournament appearances with two regular-season conference titles and a MIAC Playoff championship in 2012. In addition to baseball and football, Haugen has also worked as an assistant basketball coach and head hockey coach during his tenure at SJU.

Jim Gagliardi
The 2012 season was Gagliardi's 21st as an assistant coach. The Johnnies have posted a 203-44-2 (.819) overall record and a 151-25-2 (.854) MIAC record in the 21 seasons with Gagliardi as part of the offensive coaching staff. A Johnnie quarterback has finished in the top two of the MIAC (conference games only) in passing efficiency in 16 of the past 21 seasons, and SJU has led the MIAC (conference games only) in passing efficiency 14 of those seasons. SJU has finished in the top two of the MIAC (conference games only) in total offense 14 of the 21 seasons he has been on staff. Gagliardi played four years from 1985 to 1988 at Saint John's as a wide receiver and was part of a conference championship and two national playoff squads.

Brandon Novak
Novak ended his 12th season as an assistant coach for the Johnnies in 2012. A 2001 graduate of SJU, Novak was named the MIAC Most Valuable Player as a linebacker in 1999 and a two-time, first-team All-America selection. He coached linebackers for 11 seasons but transitioned to the offensive side of the ball running backs in 2012. Novak is also in his ninth year as head wrestling coach at SJU. On the mat, Novak won the national wrestling title at 197 pounds in March 2001 and was a three-time All-American.

Damien Dumonceaux
Dumonceaux completed his seventh season on the defensive coaching staff in 2012 after serving as a three-year starter at nose tackle from 2003-05. A 2005 All-American, Dumonceaux was named the Football Gazette's Defensive Lineman of the Year, D3football.com's Defensive Player of the Year and received the MIAC Mike Stam Award as the conference's top lineman.

Jim Mader
The 2012 season was Mader's ninth as an assistant coach for the SJU football team. Mader is the former head football coach and activities director at Albany High School, where he made 15 football state tournament appearances and won state titles in 1989 and 1997. Mader retired in 2002 after 23 seasons at Albany and was inducted into the Minnesota State Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in November 2002. Mader is also a 2006 inductee into both the Minnesota Athletic Directors' Hall of Fame and Albany Hall of Fame. He has served as the offensive coordinator and head coach for the Cineplexx Blue Devils, a professional team in the Austrian Football League (AFL) and the Switzerland NLA League, each of the past three Springs.

Charlie Welsh
Welsh finished his fourth season on the offensive coaching staff in 2012 after being a four-year player at quarterback and wide receiver from 2003-07 and a member of the 2003 SJU National Championship team. He was also a four-year player on the SJU baseball team. Welsh recently assisted Jim Mader with the Cineplexx Blue Devils, a semi-professional team in the Austrian Football League (AFL) and the Switzerland NLA League, as the offensive coordinator.

Don't discount the value of Jimmy being the Football Operations Coordinator.  He's been doing that job for ?? years.  And from all appearances, he's done a great job.  This gives Gary, and Tom Stock, someone they can trust and rely on to just get it done.  Gives Gary more time to focus on improving the product put on the field each Saturday afternoon.

Good move for all involved, I think.

Charlie Welsh is the video coordinator?  Surely that responsibility must be greater than just film prep and review. Surely that must involve streaming to the masses.

Nope.  Means he breaks down film.

A few weeks ago, the best we could manage on this board from Collegeville was cautious optimism.

This week, the rally cry is: "Mike Grant, who?"

Well, the devil's advocate view would be that it's a bit telling that there's apparently more excitement over the hiring of one of the other finalists as an assistant than there was over the guy who actually got the head job. Also, seems probable, Ramler would be coordinator if Grant had gotten it too, which was the scenario many wanted.

Regardless. Great to have a class of '97er - and of course, one of the all-time great players and seemingly a damn good coach -- onboard.

Fair point. And, I agree with you to a certain extent.
However, I'll add that I think this generates more enthusiasm for Gary because it alleviates fears that he was going to step in and continue—as several Tommies were gleeful to point out—with MOTS (more of the same) from the last three years.

It'll be interesting to see how closely the offense he ends up running at SJU matches up with the offense he ran at Carleton.  Will it be 100% shotgun again or will he change it up and go under center occasionally?

My enthusiasm is of the MOTS variety. I was happy with Fasching and don't have greater enthusiasm for the assistant than for the head. I have a woohoo! because things are a changing, but not too much. I'm convinced that we're going to see a renovation not a revolution an that makes me happy.
