WHITE SMOKE!

just before it, I got a call from Rome...I was turned down as "over qualified"...so no Pope Tommie I

I have heard from inside sources that the first four votes were deadlocked and no consensus was close to forming. We were looking at a two or maybe even three week conclave until the Argentinian stood and loudly pronounced, "Tommie suck!"  Soon after a unanimous vote bar one (poor 96 year old Cardinal Popesicola the Enfeebled is a bit hard of hearing) elected the new Pope.

Or at least that's what I heard.

So, a Jesuit.  Our first non-Catholic Pope.    (I'll be here all week, folks.)

I know you are joking tmert, but would someone explain, if it's easily explainable, the difference between Benedictine and Jesuit?

Benedictines = football
Jesuit = basketball
The last shall be first and the shall be.......

Benedictines are the teachers of Kings.
Jesuits the teachers Jesus.

Ok. So, the Priests around this area (upper Midwest) would they be necessarily one or the other?

Sad to say I haven't tried any of their top ten!  :'(  I may be kicked out of MN for saying this, but I really am not a Summit fan.  I can't put my finger on it, but there is just an aftertaste to all of their beers that I have tried that I just can't get past.

Then you clearly do not know good Beer!  ;)

Hopefully a few people on this board are getting geared up for the St. Patrick's Day celebration on Saturday. I will be heading to party town USA, i.e. Belle Plaine. ;D

No.  Most of the priests around here don't belong to an order.  They are diocesan priests, meaning they belong to the local diocese.

Hopefully many of you have received the special edition of the Saint John's Magazine on coach Gagliardi. A very great read and so much history about John. Nice articles by Fr. Wilfred Theisen, Austin Murphy and Mark Dienhart.

I have been looking in the mailbox the last few days and have yet to see my copy of this magazine ;).

There you go FearTheEar; a non Johnnie-Tommie post.

Here's the electronic edition:

When you grow up with all this stuff, you tend to forget how strange and unintelligible it is to those outside.  Good luck, BDB.  Just grab ROR sometime when you have a couple of hours to spare, and he can explain it all to you.

I did grow up with it tmert. Catholic grade school and high school, the first public school I attended was college. I actually wanted to attend St. John's but my folks had zero confidence that I would make it in college so no dice.

Exactly 4 years and a 3.42 GPA later from the University of Minnesota, I showed them.  ;)
I just wonder when the limbs of the Catholic family tree come together. I even checked my home Diocese of La Crosse website for information. No clue there.

I guess I needs me some ROR explainin'.

I'll stop now. Football. Anna. Hamm's. Eelpout.  8-)

I think some local rock band should change their name to "Winter Weather Advisory."

They would be getting a ton of free publicity this year.  :P
