I ticked off a "I never thought I would do this" yesterday. I attended qualifying at the Melbourne F1 Grand Prix as a guest in the Vodaphone Maclaren suite. Spectacular. Ten feet directly above the Maclaren pit. Jensen Button was zipping in to change tires and if I was any closer I would have had my toes run over.

We were right next to the Ferrari pit and hospitality suite as well. Very Italian and... uh... spectacular.

We got to walk pit road while the cars were bring worked on and later I had a tour of the Maclaren garage about 20 minutes before they went out for the last practice session. Parts and people everywhere.

Anyway, one more reason to thank the Navy. If not for the Navy then I would have never met that Aussie chick that lured me out of Grand Rapids and into the rest of the world.

I did grow up with it tmert. Catholic grade school and high school, the first public school I attended was college.

I dunno, BDB, if you went to Catholic grade school and high school, you must have been indoctrinated by somebody!  Grade school would have been nuns of some order, and high school would have been priests or brothers ... and they pretty quickly point out the differences between themselves and the others.  I went to a public grade school, so I missed the nuns (until I married one) but went to an Augustinian high school and it was clear that it was them and then everyone else.  Anyway, the differences are mainly historical, related to the time and identity of their founders.  The Benedictines (the religious order at Saint John's) has a good summary of this: http://www.religious-vocation.com/differences_religious_orders.html

Well, I did. St. Augustine's grade school and Austin Pacelli High School. We've met tmert and I know your dry wit,so I won 't take offense. I'm sure the nuns and priests talked about affiliations, but I was more concerned about my draft number so I couldn't give a rip at the time.

I had nuns and priests and lay teachers all through high school. I remember Sister Dorothy being all proud of tying a not in the rope around her waist signifying another 5 years of sisterhood. I was never "indoctronated" as you say and having gone to Pacelli was probably why the U of Minnesota allowed me in with a 2.2 GPA from Pacelli.  I worked at the Country Kitchen in Austin 5 days a week my junior and senior years in high school, getting done a midnight and later most times.

Back in those days, Pacelli played in the old CCC. Let's see around here who knows what that means.  :)

The Johnnies open the NCAA hockey championships at UW-EC, the galaxy's second most wretched hive of scum and villainy.
How'd the Johnnies do?

Yeah, we lost. But you're still UW-EC.

Hurts to be me.  Sucks to be you.  :o

Ah, an oldie, but a goodie... Still sucks to be a Blugold, especially tonight.

Ditto. Congratulations, UW-EC.  Next year you'll be despised again but for the moment enjoy being on top of the world.

I realize I've wandered into the danger zone here, but thanks!  ;)

P.S. Give us a little love east of the Mississippi, eh? At least until week two of the 2013 football season, OK?  ;)

BDB...would that be the Central Catholic Conference?   ;D  Im from Wells and played in the old SCC, having to play St. Peter, Waseca, and Fairmont on a regular basis was no fun.  Im sure when you were in HS, we were still domininating the old border leauge under coach John Drugg, untill they politely asked us to leave....aahhh...the good ol day's....

I think his father owns a used car lot so he felt a special connection to GC.
