Ashamed? Haha I figured a kid's finances were not something that was my right to publish on a message board... that's all.

I didn't know much about the MIAC until this fall, I had a son that played in the NSIC and trolled those boards for a while and now I have a connection to Concordia with a nephew going to school there. I set up a google search in my email to trigger when the Cobbs come up and that article was pretty sweet. I don't think it was right to even have his grant aid published in the article. So i deleted it from my post. Is there a problem with that sir?

The EAR
Stars and Stripes published it, you're just copying and pasting.  We can perhaps make some assumptions about his finances based on the amount awarded to him, but his finances were not published.

Which I decided to delete that part from MY post because I don't agree with the writer's decision to publish it in the first place. IMO I don't think that your "ashamed" comment really makes any sense anyway. A kid is going to have to take out 5k in loans to go to a private school and get a great education. What's the shame in that?
I was asking you, I wasn't assuming.  People have the amount of their scholarships published all the time.  Clearly the Hogans provided this information to the reporter.  It isn't unusual for this type of story to include quotes from an athlete saying how he might not have been able to afford school without grants/scholarships and exploring finances further.

The answer to your question is no I did not omit the $$ because of being ashamed.

Really?

That's interesting to me. Why would schools publish that information?

They're awards/gifts.  When isn't that type of information published?

I don't know.. I don't see it on the Tommie release or on any of the other schools websites saying "Jimmy received 30k in aid"

Ok let me clarify my thought....

Teams do not release the names of every kid's award money on their websites. T/F?

In cases like this young man (Mitchell) That is freaking awesome and I would definitely be proud of that! I'm just assuming (which i shouldn't) that random students don't have their award money posted to the public.

And just because I think it's important to note.... It does not say anywhere in the article what the exact amount of money St. Thomas gave the young man.

"As a recipient of the NROTC scholarship, Watkins receives money for most areas of college expenses including tuition, books, and fees. He has also qualified for a scholarship from St. Thomas."

Here's another example with exact amounts included. http://weekly.blog.gustavus.edu/2013/04/19/gustavus-students-receive-prestigious-scholarships/

Again, the Hogan family gave the award information to the reporter expecting it to be published.  You said you wouldn't be ashamed, but you haven't figured out why you would hide it.  The family doesn't hide it and the schools just generally don't see the point of publishing every single scholarship awarded.  I do know that Concordia would pay for an announcement in the local papers of kids who won their faculty scholarship.  I know this because I won the thing before deciding against becoming a Cobber.

I haven't figured out why I would hide it? I'm pretty sure that I said that I do not think it's any of my business to post what a kid is getting. If a kid is proud of his prestigious scholarship then that is great... Stand on the mountain tops and scream it out for all I care.

The article points out the exact award he received and it doesn't say what is made of. Im assuming it could be anything from Faculty Scholarships that you spoke to or Pell Grant money. Which in my eyes (right or wrong) is not my place to repost/copy and paste/ or whatever.

The examples you have showed are tremendous accomplishments for those students that received them. The St. Thomas kid could have used his ROTC scholarship at any school he chose and the Gusties trio is a great honor.

My point is that full lists of what student athletes are receiving at their respective college programs is not common knowledge nor should it be.... IMO
