The Mount missed a great chance if they didn't try to pry gc away from summit...

Now you know what GC was talking about when he wouldn't leave LK alone after the Stagg Bowl. He was asking LK to put in a good word for him if Larry ever decided to retire. ::)

GC should realize it is always better to promote from within the program. ;D
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Only 1 MIAC coach and program has ever beat LK.
Maybe Larry retired because he fears Gary Fasching????  ;)

Or he fears another awkward moment at midfield w/ GC.  ;D

Great story about Ayo Idowu and his tryout with the Seahawks next week. Apparently, the Vikings and Tampa Bay also wanted to sign him. Great kid.

If the two teams would happen to meet again, and there was another "great coaching decision" by GC, he will be met at midfield by a Kehres who just might not be as restrained as dad was last year.  Just sayin'....... ;)

Does anybody have video of the last few minutes of the game?  To be honest I was done w/ watching it and on to my 10th or 11th IPA by that point.  I guess I figured what could happen...the game was over...take your lumps and go home. I'm really disappointed with myself that I didn't DVR it.

SCTimes story on Red / White Game.  What do people think of the red on red uniforms?  Personally I am not a fan.

I don't anticipate the Johnnies going all red at any point this year (or so I hope).

I'm a bit disappointed that Bernie Kukar's pass attempt and subsequent interception were not logged in the statistics.

I kind of like the red/red.  I liked the red/white before they ditched the red stripe on the pants.  Now, it's just too plain.

I'm okay with the red/red, but would prefer white over red for road, and traditional red over white for home.

What did I miss - Bruns didn't play?  Do I just not remember it being discussed that he was not going to play?

I would have expected more from Sura at RB I think.   I guess I hope.

Essler played more at WR last year because of RB depth, but he's going to get a shot at RB this year?

The tackling stats seem to favor the DB's - bad sign for the DL and LBs???  Or a top notch OL this year blasting out the front 7?

WCCO did a nice piece on UST's incoming football class.

I strolled in about 5 minutes into the "2nd Qtr."- a number of returning linemen were not dressed because they were recovering from off season surgery- Ben Kuhr had a knee issue near the end of last season etc... also a number of defensive starters from last year not listed in the program, I am assuming they are in the study abroad program (as I recall them being Jr.s this past season) and not on campus.
Bruns took part in the 7 on 7 & he pretty well for coming off shoulder surgery. Even though the QB were "off limits" I did see Benson take a couple good pops when he left the pocket.
Sura did look pretty smooth the couple times I saw him get the ball, I recall in one of the simulated OT periods- the kid took it up the middle for 15 yards & it look effortless- the kid needs more touches.
Ramler's influence is apparent on the offense with play calling, especially in the Red Zone (that's a good thing)
***The Kicking game needs help...... say what you will about Jimmie Mattson having a bit of an ego,but the kid could kick. I think to be a Kicker, a QB or a Pitcher in baseball- you need an ego, because it isn't going to go perfect every time and you have to forget the failures and go out & get the next victory.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

According to the WCCO article above, "the group coming in on the front line on both sides of the ball is the best he's (Caruso) had since he became the St. Thomas head coach." With that in mind, I did a little digging into some of the recruits. Below are a few profiles that I was able to find on a few of the incoming offensive and defensive lineman. Certainly an impressive group.

Chandler Lamke, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, OL (6-7, 308) All-Tribune Second Team. Lamke, who is quite agile despite his size, played basketball for the state runner-up Red Hawks this past season. He's been to two camps at the University of Wisconsin, and was in contact with the Badgers coaches.

Tyler Fish, Warroad, OL (6-2, 310) Most Valuable Offensive Lineman in the Classic Conference. Received interest from Minnesota-Duluth, North Dakota, St. Thomas, Harvard, Columbia, Concordia College, St. Cloud State, and Minnesota State Mankato.

Zach Martens, Transfer from Missouri S&T, OL (6-2 285) Received interest from NDSU, USD, Princeton, and Penn. Attended camps at Minnesota, NDSU, USD, UND, and UMD. Played in 2012 Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game. All-State Honorable Mention in 2011.

Kyle Schmidt, Woodbury, OL/DL (6-3, 265) Experienced and physical, with good lateral movement and the ability to lock out defensive linemen. Iowa State, Navy, and North Dakota State all have shown interest. All-State Honorable Mention.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/917901/highlights/36996390

Michael Backus, Eastview, OL (6-4, 290) 2012 All-State Honorable Mention. All-Pioneer Press Honorable Mention. Star Tribune All-Metro Second Team. Selected to play in Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game.

Joel Hylton, North Shore Country Day School, OL/DL (6-3, 285) First Team All-Area. All Conference. Received interest from several D1 colleges, including an offer from South Dakota State.

Sean Scharlau, St. Michael-Albertville OL/DL (6-1, 285) Selected to play in Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game.

Nathan Howard, U of M transfer, DE/TE/Athlete (6-4, 230) Big Ten recruiters scouted Howard. Ran a 4.7-second forty his senior year at Bloomington Jefferson and walked onto Gophers.

Ryan Winter, Woodbury, DE (6-3, 235) All-State Second Team Defense. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder ran a 4.6-second 40-yard dash at the Gophers' camp. All-Pioneer Press First Team. Michael Redmond, Minnetonka, DE/LB (6-4, 220) A strong and fast defensive end with the frame to handle larger opposing linemen. Has a rushing burst off the edge and the speed to chase down plays from the back side. Received offers from Illinois State, North Dakota and Northern Iowa. Has received PWO from Iowa. Received invite Minnesota junior day. Two Star recruit according to Rivals.com.

But when Kehres had defeated Glenn Caruso, well, how could you ever top that?
He probably retired knowing that he'd likely never top the almighty GC again.  ::)

I suspect Larry saw what happened in Collegeville and figured if he was going to give the job to his son, he needed to do it while he still had the influence to do so.

Do I remember correctly that his son has a bit of a temper?
