SCTimes story on Red / White Game.  What do people think of the red on red uniforms?  Personally I am not a fan.

Don't like the all red at all.  They should burn the red pants.

According to the WCCO article above, "the group coming in on the front line on both sides of the ball is the best he's (Caruso) had since he became the St. Thomas head coach." With that in mind, I did a little digging into some of the recruits. Below are a few profiles that I was able to find on a few of the incoming offensive and defensive lineman. Certainly an impressive group.

Chandler Lamke, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, OL (6-7, 308) All-Tribune Second Team. Lamke, who is quite agile despite his size, played basketball for the state runner-up Red Hawks this past season. He's been to two camps at the University of Wisconsin, and was in contact with the Badgers coaches.

Tyler Fish, Warroad, OL (6-2, 310) Most Valuable Offensive Lineman in the Classic Conference. Received interest from Minnesota-Duluth, North Dakota, St. Thomas, Harvard, Columbia, Concordia College, St. Cloud State, and Minnesota State Mankato.

Zach Martens, Transfer from Missouri S&T, OL (6-2 285) Received interest from NDSU, USD, Princeton, and Penn. Attended camps at Minnesota, NDSU, USD, UND, and UMD. Played in 2012 Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game. All-State Honorable Mention in 2011.

Kyle Schmidt, Woodbury, OL/DL (6-3, 265) Experienced and physical, with good lateral movement and the ability to lock out defensive linemen. Iowa State, Navy, and North Dakota State all have shown interest. All-State Honorable Mention.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/917901/highlights/36996390

Michael Backus, Eastview, OL (6-4, 290) 2012 All-State Honorable Mention. All-Pioneer Press Honorable Mention. Star Tribune All-Metro Second Team. Selected to play in Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1237313/michael-backus

Joel Hylton, North Shore Country Day School, OL/DL (6-3, 285) First Team All-Area. All Conference. Received interest from several D1 colleges, including an offer from South Dakota State.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/589765/joel-hylton

Sean Scharlau, St. Michael-Albertville OL/DL (6-1, 285) Selected to play in Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/800364/sean-scharlau

Nathan Howard, U of M transfer, DE/TE/Athlete (6-4, 230) Big Ten recruiters scouted Howard. Ran a 4.7-second forty his senior year at Bloomington Jefferson and walked onto Gophers.

Ryan Winter, Woodbury, DE (6-3, 235) All-State Second Team Defense. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder ran a 4.6-second 40-yard dash at the Gophers' camp. All-Pioneer Press First Team. Attended Minnesota and Iowa junior day event. Received invite to North Dakota junior day. Team Defensive MVP. Selected to play in Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game. Has a 4.0 GPA.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/917897/highlights/19880379

Michael Redmond, Minnetonka, DE/LB (6-4, 220) A strong and fast defensive end with the frame to handle larger opposing linemen. Has a rushing burst off the edge and the speed to chase down plays from the back side. Received offers from Illinois State, North Dakota and Northern Iowa. Has received PWO from Iowa. Received invite Minnesota junior day. Two Star recruit according to Rivals.com.

Darby Goodwin, Loyola Academy, DL (6-0, 230) Defensive Player of the Year in the Catholic League's Blue Division. Chicago Tribune All-State Football First Team. Undersized defensive lineman that plays with a chip on his shoulder.

Positional coaches play a large role locking down these recruits, so hats off to UST's pair of line coaches.  Pretty impressive take for a couple guys in their late 20s.  Hollway is new to the program, but Lepsche has been with Caruso since Macalaster.

Vegas-can you post a link to Goodwin and the Tribune's all state team. I can only find Rushin from Loyola on the defensive all state team.
Thanks

I was hoping we'd also have Mr. Goodwin's teammates, Luke Ford (a ridiculous athlete) and Peter Pujals (nice QB) joining Darby and another LA alum, Charlie Dowdle in Tommie purple. I know they gave it strong consideration, but both ultimately chose Holy Cross. HC landed a whale in Ford, kid is a hell of a player. It seems a nice relationship has formed between LA and UST.

Actually, they looked better than I thought they would. I think the stripe should come back, however!!!

When I see a description like that, I immediately think that kid is likely to come back to D-III at some point. The kids who go to low D-I's tend to find out quickly that "being Division I" is not all it's cracked up to be.

We also picked up Brendan Murphy from Loyola Academy as well. He was their starting center. Do you know anything about him?

I would be shocked if those guys, true DI guys went to any d3 school. Loyola plays in the largest class in illinois and many of the all conference guys are DI or DII players. Guess I will have to kick SJU coaches in gear to get down here-good players all around.

Tommie Media did another story on the Tommie's recruiting class. Eden Prairie's Derek Soderberg looks like a DB that might be able to come in and compete for some playing time right away. I'm not sure if Josh Carey received a medical redshirt or not. Carey ended his season sometime in September (around game 4), which led to Chinni Oji moving from corner to safety.

Vegas TomCat is on top of his game out there in Tommie Land. Great job with all the info. I really enjoyed looking at who they are bringing in.

The Cobbers break down was surprising.
13 OL and 6 QB's

Im assuming some of those QB's might move positions, but love seeing the amount of big boys coming in.

To highlight a few:

Jon Asprey – Offensive Line – HT 6'3 WT 240 - Brainerd High School, MN
Josh Berg – Offensive Line – HT 6'2 WT 275 - Fargo Shanley High School, ND
Ethan Feil – Offensive Line – HT 6'4 WT 240 - Divide County High School, Crosby, ND
Jesse Hogan – Offensive/Defensive Line – HT 6'4 WT 275 - Yokota HS, Yokota AFB, Japan
Alex Piepkorn – Offensive Line – HT 6'4 WT 250 - Fargo North High School, ND
Logan Tillma – Offensive Line – HT 6'5 WT 310 - La Qui Parle Valley, Madison, MN

Not sure if any of those guys would fit in in TommieLand, some small town boys... and of course Japan!

Be interesting to see what these kids are like 2 years down the road.

Thought the school did a good job with this too.

Not sure if it means anything to the kid but I could see a parent liking something of that nature.

A thousand bucks to anyone who can prove they watched every second of a 10-minute highlight package of a high school center who's going to play for a D3 school.
