Wow.  Looks like everything is bigger in Texas.
Are you referring to a-holes?

Huge. Surprisingly giant.

That post is funny, though.  It starts off condemning Fasching for abandoning some of the principles of "No" and then condemns the "selection process" presumably for being corrupt and picking Gagliardi Lite. It's almost like our friend in Texas really, really wanted someone else to get that job and he's still hurt over the outcome.

Lighten up in Texas. Sam Houston would never have cried in his frijoles like that.

Does Gary even have a cell phone, not to mention a smart phone yet?

Best line from the rant!  Did you see Gagliardi using a smart phone a lot???  ::)

Good story from the weekend.  I was at a friend's wedding on Sunday (weird, right?), and this completely hammered loud-mouth started talking to my wife and I.  Now, I was completely sober, and we had our < 2 year old with us, and this blowhard is dropping f-bombs like they're going out of style.  Well, after mentioning numerous times how he has a PhD and works in academia, he mentioned the he played football and hockey at Bethel.  Alright, fine with me, but I was getting awful sick of this dude.
Of course, I mentioned that I played football at SJU.  Yadda, yadda, yadda...he starts getting into the "how can they hide pedophiles up there?" and basically stated his opinion that all monks are pedophiles.
At this point, quite fed up with him, I tried calmly to explain that I know about as much about it as he does, and that I am not going to talk about it with him.  At this point, he grabbed my shirt to keep me engaged in the conversation.  Not a good idea!  So, I not so calmly removed his hands from me and let him know that he had better not touch me again.  In hind sight, and am glad my wife and son were there, or this guy would have been on the receiving end of my fist.
Now, I know there are plenty of a-holes in this world...from Bethel, SJU, and elsewhere, but I got a bit of amusement out of the fact that he was a Royal.  Also, I got lots of amusement out of the fact that I nearly got in a fist fight at a wedding that I was sober at.  :o

He did also say he was a state employee, so I'd say he worked at a public school.  ;)

I reckon it's a good bet that even if he's speaking at the front of a room full of students he still isn't managing to teach anyone anything.

Was it freebird?

You've got that right...I can certainly attest that there were a handful of them around while I was there.  Coming from out-state MN, I definitely noticed that it seemed to be more concentrated amongst the over privelaged types that came from the wealthier metro cities...that being said, it did seem like most of them evolved in their time at college after coming to the realization that the world indeed did not revolve around them.  Sounds like the fella you encountered wasn't as fortunate.  I'll attribute that to him being a hockey player.  ;)

In other news, I tried a Mad Hatter IPA this weekend, and found it to be delightful.  Not up to the Surly Furious level (but what really is?) but it was darn tasty.

Chances are likely it was mainly due to that fact.  As he mentioned several times, he "played juniors".  I guess he was kind of a big deal.  ::)

That & $4.95 will get him a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Duff, did you say- "dude, you're in Minnesota, the only place that has more junior hockey players is Manitoba" I'll bet Oz could rattle off a list of guys from The Rapids that he knew growing up that "played juniors".
Dang, I wish Mrs. Duff would have had the video camera- instant classic.

I have a wedding of a daughter of a family friend this weekend, I can only be half as lucky to experience something like this. On second thought, my younger brother & his drinking buddies will be there...... I like my chances  8-)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Congrats to SJU alum Phil Trier!  You'd be hard-pressed to find a nicer guy.  From my first day in the red and white, Phil's positive attitude and genuine friendliness were infectious.
