he looks forward to working with Schulze on his "ambitious plans" for the foundation.

I hear UST is putting in a used car lot next to the stadium to help boost revenue.
They've got great deals on gently used Lamboghinis http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2012/02/lamborghini_towed_university_of_st_thomas_ust.php.  Practical cars for students.

Or to help bump up SJU's post-graduation employment figures...

Dienhart, a former athletic director at the University of Minnesota, said Monday that he remains a loyal St. Thomas alumnus and that he looks forward to working with Schulze on his "ambitious plans" for the foundation.

Schulze said he expects Dienhart to research the foundation's priorities and make grant recommendations to the board that will be monitored and measured for impact.

"Mark is a high-quality executive and has an opportunity to explore these areas," said Schulze, who said he also likely will continue to give to St. Thomas, where the Schulze School of Entrepreneurship within the Opus College of Business is named for him.

If anything this sounds like good news for UST...

I disagree, he will be missed.  Dienhart has been at the helm steering UST forward.  I'm not sure Dease was much more than a glad hander I comparison.  I witnessed this as a student liaison to the board of directors finance committee in '05.

My guess is he'd rather move on then play second fiddle to the new boss, can't blame him.  I'd also guess he takes the first opportunity back in academic admins.

Sounds like you have more insight on the ground.  I guess time will tell.  If we see Sullivan driving the university forward and Dienhart helping her secure a major donation then it sounds like a win.  On a related note, what are the chances that Schulze would endow a medical school at UST?

I've always found it interesting that the school's entrepreneurship program is named for a non-alum while its most successful alum isn't recognized or involved.  David Stassen (BA, MBA), formerly of Spine Tech, was an E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year, yet hasn't been involved at the school apparently because of some hang up over a common text years ago.

Props to Deinhart for welcoming Shulze and starting the trend for Anderson and Opus/Roundhorse to follow.

From the Star Tribune article:

"Schulze, a St. Thomas trustee and one of the university's largest donors, started talking to Dienhart about the foundation job after the St. Thomas board selected Julie Sullivan, an administrator at the University of San Diego, to succeed the retiring Rev. Dennis Dease as St. Thomas president. Dienhart, 59, was a finalist for the presidency."

Don't you think the first meeting for Sullivan and Dienhart if there ever is one, would be a bit chilly? I just don't see a power broker such as Dienhart looking forward to meeting with the new president after he was kicked to the curb by St.Thomas.

Of course if Sullivan turns out to be a bust then they've got Dienhart waiting right there in the wings ready to go thanks to the efforts of a trustee (who I bet wanted Dienhart to get the gig).  That sort of dynamic really adds a boost to the mood in them fundraisers.  Happy dollar days ahead for the Tommmies.

Sad news for Tommies and all the fans of his books. Alum Vince Flynn died. Especially sad because it was prostate cancer, which can be so treatable but also can obviously be deadly.

the rumor on Med School I hear most often is a partnership with UHC and possibly Mayo Clinic, with campus to be at an unspecified south metro location (IGH? Bloomington?) . The most recent timeline i've heard is "2-5 years" but thats been a moving target for a while now.

Very sad news. I knew he'd been battling cancer, but I'd thought he was on the mend. I'll be praying for his family.

I've heard about a possible merger with Mayo as well.  I wonder what sort of resources are required to establish a medical campus given that Mayo has robust facilities.

Horrendous news-sad day indeed. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to get to know Vince during my time slinging him drinks at Tiffs. Also shared some with him at the lounge, O'Garas, Billy's and Plums. Vince was a great human being and a proud son of UST-he will be missed.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

I'd vote for the site of the old Ford plant.  Rumor has it that is also where the new football stadium and hockey arena will be constructed.

Unfortunately, I talked to administrators at the last alumni cocktail party out here in DC and the old Ford plant in not in the equation.
