Looking through my closet the other day (in preparation for the season), I realized that I don't have a single SJU shirt anymore.  :o  That's a far cry from the days of wearing 4-5 per week!  I'll have to make a visit to the bookstore.

A tradition unrivaled...

Study Ranks St. John's University First for Return on Investment  8-)

Middle management (at best) must be paying pretty well. I think a Tommie must have written than survey, though. ROI is a percentage and the UofM easily has the highest return on investment. If a Johnnie had written this survey then the different investment options would have been compared using net present value.

But I have to wonder about the value of a college education. I'll admit I'm taking more time to write this post than I did looking for their survey methodology, but a college education looks very suspicious. If you get a four year degree, that will cost you $130k at SJU and your lifetime earnings are $860k?  Over what? 20 years?  If you instead invested that money in shares and then let it sit for 20 years you would have just short of $2m dollars. A college bound student is better off investing in other people's ingenuity than his own.

That's a 15% IRR over 20 years ($130 to $2M). I'd be extremely impressed if a high school grad could find that.

Hopefully the guy running the SJU pension fund knows better.
The last shall be first and the shall be.......

Camp start dates are different for each team because of the NCAA formula from what I understand ??? ???  number of practices per day and the mix of conditioning vs. full contact how many days per 7 day calendar... That how it was explained to me!

I hope this isn't a U$T tailgate!!!

That was a pic from Harvard/Yale.

No offense to my alma mater, but unless it's a Tommie/Jonnie game, the tailgate is more likely to look like this: http://cbstailgatefan.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/1-jets-parking-lot.jpg

But on the plus side the student houses near campus will look like this: http://media1.break.com/breakstudios/2012/5/10/frank-the-tank-old-school-648737_900_600.jpg

Actually, I think that UST is taking an approach that they hope will be profitable.  Traditional tailgating is difficult because of the parking situation (neighbors don't want partying on public streets and the on-campus parking garages aren't conducive).  UST developed Monahan Plaza between the football stadium and the Anderson Student Center to host pre-game "Purple on the Plaza" events. According to the alumni page, pre-game activities include "food and beverages for sale as well as a beer garden--the perfect location to meet classmates for reminiscing.  Bring the family to campus to enjoy the fun before the big game!"  I think the turnout has been pretty strong for the pre-game parties and they are growing.  Looks like a win for everyone, as long as the food/beers aren't overpriced.

Oz,the degree gets you in the door and sadly many of the youth of today have diminished social (interviewing) skills due to parents who have told them how wonderful they are their entire young lives. :-[

We have a Gen Y that works in our office. Someone asked what it was like working with her, what with her having Asperger syndrome. I had to explain that she does not have Asperger's, she just lacks interpersonal skills...*sigh*

Hell in a hand basket I tell ya!!! 8-)

I think $10M is too low for that animal.  Good job, JJR.  Does this mean you will also preside over the trial?

In a case of perfect fit for a job, there is a guy at work who (I suspect with no evidence other than my own wild guesses) has a hint if Asbergers (his brother is autistic, so I may not be so wild in my thoughts) and he writes the code that runs all of our reserving processes (insurance). His concentration, stanima and attention to detail are beyond belief.  The only person that I truly say is indispensable in our area. So a recommendation to you all that if you have a job that absolutely, positively must be done on time and with precision then find yourself a guy like ________.  (Name not disclosed and never will be.  I'm seeing if my father in law can get him under witness protection so the recruiters lose the trail.)

I'm sitting here watching the Hawks play the Saints on Friday Night Football and Mrs Oz starts cracking up over this that I've never paid attention to.  She says she thinks that's me. I drive a 14 year old Camry.  Maybe she wants me to get a new one.

My season ticket packet arrived in the mail yesterday, that is a sure sign of a fast approaching football season.

It's always fun to see whose picture is on the individual game tickets as well as on the Game Day Programs (NCAA award winning programs, may I add  ;D)

All the guys on the individual tickets have the short haircut this year,it must be a fashion trend.
