Leaving for Ireland in about 36 hours....can't wait.  Hope to keep up on all the banter but probably won't be able to follow.
Most likely will be watching the All-Ireland Hurling Semifinal from a pub in Cork a week from Sunday...Rebels play tomorrow against Dublin. At least County Cork wears the proper colors.  http://www.gaacork.ie  Wish they were playing next week.

Would love some last minute recommendations for Dublin, Kinsale and Galway.

Tommies still suck!!!

Back in Minny on an unscheduled family visit. Lots of hospital visits mixed with spells of down time. Managed to sneak off to 56321 on Thursday. New facilities looking very good. Tremendous baseball field. Classy soccer layout with the retaining walls. The lights at Clemens weren't as obtrusive as I'd expected.

Drove through Hinckley tonight and saw the lights on at Brennan Field, one of the great old smalltown ballparks. Had not been there since high school. Sartell and Mora were playing for a spot in the state amateur tournament and the centerfielders were Rob Voshell and Dylan Graves. Voshell blooped a two-run single in Sartell's big inning. Graves played well. As those who have seen them play FB know, they could really cover some ground in center. Sartell advanced to state and Mora can go with a win Sunday. Luke Sweeter also played for Sartell.

Graves had a little brother, Derek, who I believe is also headed to SJU. Note sure what kind of a FB player he is but Jerry Haugen should be very happy in the spring if not the fall. Scrappy (not the BU poster kind) player.

And, last and probably least, finally got into some Surly. Great stuff.

I hope that all goes well with our family, repete.

I reckon this is the best time of year to visit home. Warm outside with few mosquitos, the lakes are warm, the fairs are going. It's all on.  (other than Johnnie football, of course.  Maybe about four more weeks is best.)

In the Galway area try the Cliffs of Moher, amazing views.  The restaurant at the visitors center wasn't bad either, granted I was last there about 10 years ago.  http://www.cliffsofmoher.ie/

Also, if you've never been before, take a look at the Bunratty Castle and Folk Park.  Neat demonstrations during the day of Ireland in the past.  In the evening, there is a medieval banquet inside an actual castle.  Very neat, although I have heard guests of some friends complain that it is too "touristy" Everyone I brought there loved it though.  http://www.shannonheritage.com/BunrattyCastleAndFolkPark/

Been to both 16 years ago.  We are surely going to the Cliffs.  Not likely on Bunratty...It was cool to see all the old cottages and have a sense of what a "functioning" castle might have been like.

From the SC Times:

"...Haugen, who this season will serve as co-defensive coordinator along with Brandon Novak."

Co-coordinator?
This is the first time I've heard Jerry Haugen referred to as the co-defensive coordinator. Is this new or have I been living under a rock for the past eight months?

Well, we're all in the mood for a melody

Can you post a link to that article?  At gojohnnies.com (http://gojohnnies.com/sports/2008/7/14/FOOTBALL_Assistants.aspx?path=football) Haugen is listed as Defensive Coordinator and Novak as Co-Defensive Coordinator.  I took that to be a succession plan for Haugen who has done 38 years of football coaching at SJU when I read it a while ago.  Maybe two years of handover and then retirement.  Dunno.

They were called co-coordinators back in January. In a Times chat, Deland mentioned that it was a learning-on-the-job type thing but ever since the coaching moves were announced it's been co.
