I highly recommend the Kickoff.  Well worth the $11.

I concur! Some interesting tid bits about the MIAC and the upper mid-west teams as a whole.

That's nice to see. Congratulations to te sophomore and I hope we have a few very good years of play from him.

And best of all?  No QB shuffle!

Boys of Fall

Also sounds like there may be some freshmen at the DL, LB,and RB spots.  Could be a young team on the field this year.

I went to the MN State Fair last night.  U$T is whoring themselves out to the masses--I saw all sorts of interesting folks toting purple U$T bags.

My favorite food was the new Minnepumpkin Pie with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream.  I also tried the Cocoa Cheese Bites, which are cheese curds breaded with Cocoa Puffs, deep fried, and served with chocolate sauce.  They were actually pretty good.

On a beer-related note, Schell's Oktoberfest was flowing.  Yet another sign that football season is upon us!

UST has been giving out those bags for years...people wait in line for them throughout the day.  Each year there's a new design.  They've become somewhat of a collectible...pop up on Ebay every once and awhile.

I didn't have a horse in the race but I've always liked Bruns. He was a highly touted recruit coming in from the east coast. I always hoped he'd be able to right the ship. Congrats to Martin. I was disappointed this spring when he ended up not running track at SJU. In HS he was a state champ in the 110 hurdles. It would've been fun to see him on the track but it appears his sacrifice paid off.

That's an odd term to use from a graduate of what might be the "most commercialized" football program in D3.  I'll be happy to change "most" to "highly" if someone can give me an example of a D3 program that injects more advertising and promotions into their game day experience.

I might be mistaken, but I think SJU fans (including Duff) have in the past been the most vocal critics of the "Open your program to Page 86" mania and advertising overload at Johnnie games. The difference, of course, being that SJU keeps its whoring to the stadium instead of taking it to the great Minnesota get together where the innocents can be sullied.

I have no problem with MN private schools advertising, or as you say "whoring." If anything, some of them should do more to showcase their strengths.  I think one has to recognize that for many Minnesotans the U of M and UST are the two major universities in the state.  The U of M hands out paraphernalia at the State Fair...why wouldn't UST? I helped out at the UST booth (which is pretty awesome, actually) as an undergraduate.  Some people, collectors mostly, would come simply for the new bag.  However, many people were there with their children who were interested in becoming a Tommie.  They would ask about the student experience, academics, the campus, opportunities after graduation, etc.  All in all, a presence at the State Fair is great for both UST and prospective students/parents.  Next thing we'll hear is that having state-wide broadcasting rights with WCCO is another example of "whoring."

Have never been to the State Fair. Bolded part makes me feel like I'm not missing much.

Thanks for the thorough analysis.  ;)  For real, what are your thoughts on the topic?

If this statement isn't a high hanging fastball right in the collective sweet spot I don't know what is.
