This Star Trib article contains some interesting tidbits on the SJU coaching change that I hadn't heard before.

Legendary task: Fasching takes over for Gagliardi at St. John's

The article makes SJU football sound like a soap opera.  Are we sure much of this is true?

What wouldn't be true? We've read on here some of the perhaps tough feelings players/leftovers from the Roney era had when Caruso took over. That was a guy who'd been there for a decade and was...Don Roney. It's hard to believe that when a legend retires after 60 years there might be an issue or two that pops up, all of which seem to have been handled as well as possible?

Does anyone know where to find a list of 2-deeps for UST?

I don't think they've released it yet.

VT. Who do you follow on twitter or elsewhere to keep up with the team?

Other than Chinni Oji, I'm not really following anyone on twitter. I just keep up with the team through online sources and a few friends who know players on the team.

Sorry ROR, no PM from you in my messages.

Wife of BDB got called to Veek land for a family event cleaning out a deceased aunt's house, leaving me home with the kids for the weekend so no Johnnie tailgate for me.  :'(

Not much I could do about it, she had to go and has left.

Hell, I even have season passes to everything at UWRF because I am a corporate sponsor there. You guys should see evidence of that. Duff, I was going to get you in free but you'll need to pull the wallet out I guess.  :-\

With the second Duffster on it's way, I can't afford that!  :o

We'll miss you, Bob!  Are you at least sending Stoutguy to raise a ruckus if the UW-RF security detail causes us headaches?

Stoutguy will be doing the Menomonie vs. Chippewa Falls high school game on the radio tonight, so you are on your own with the parking lot negotiations.

57Johnnie, I got 20 bucks says the Mustangs take your high school alma mater tonight.  ::)

For we wrestling fans, this is good news:  http://www.twincities.com/national/ci_24026611/wrestling-verge-reclaiming-olympic-status

Definitely good news. But this line makes me a little nervous:

Quote"We're still trying to get our message across," said Don Porter, co-president of the World Baseball Softball Confederation. "We know we have an uphill battle but we are doing everything we can to convince the members that baseball-softball will be positive for the Olympic program. I think there are still a lot of members who are undecided."

Knowing the IOC's propensity for corruption and history of taking bribes, I hope this vote is strictly on the up and up!

Thanx ROR!

It's about time somebody started talking/writing about MIAC Football on a regular basis in the media. Hope it stays balanced as the season unfolds.

"Although Gagliardi's departure was officially termed a retirement, his exit wasn't completely amicable. School officials admit numerous discussions were needed before Gagliardi decided to step aside, and once he did, the legendary coach was upset by the decision to form a search committee, which gave no consideration to replacing him with his son, Jim Gagliardi, the offensive coordinator of last year's team."

"Gagliardi's ire increased after Fasching got the job and demoted Jim to wide receivers coach and coordinator of football operations, a fancy title that meant he handled most of the mundane off-the-field matters."

"Fasching appears confident in his new position, showing no sign of insecurity from being the school's second choice to replace Gagliardi. Eden Prairie High School coach Mike Grant, a legend in his own right with a record eight state championships, was offered the job, then withdrew."

Keep in mind that I'm not exactly tapped into the inner workings of SJU football, but as an outsider the quotes above tell a slightly different story than was previously understood.  In public Gagliardi's departure was presented as a self-imposed retirement.  I don't remember many people talking about the exit being less than amicable.  I remember people on this board saying that Fasching was Gagliardi's preferred successor.  Gagliardi's "ire" increasing over the hire was kept pretty quiet.  Of course there were plenty of Mike Grant fans amongst the alumni, but the article makes it seem pretty clear that Fasching was the second choice.  I thought SJU administrators remained agnostic throughout the hiring process.  Finally, as an aside, it just seems surprising that with the start of a new season anyone at SJU would want to air dirty laundry.  I can't see much of a benefit for anyone involved.
