Looking forward to the UST game tonight...had it on my "to watchlist," expecting a great game out of UST.

Who has more pressure this weekend, SJU to prove they're back or UST to prove they're worthy of moving to a higher division?

That's actually a good question.

My knee jerk was SJU. But UST isn't without pressure. They've now won a two straight games against their rivals, but they aren't that far removed from over a decade of ineptitude. Losing despite superior talent (I think SJU is much better this year, but hasn't totally closed the gap) would be a dangerous return to form for the culture Caruso's trying to build.

All that said, I still think it's SJU. This game is at Clemens. And while they may not be the favorites, losing 3 straight to a surging UST program hurts on multiple levels, but especially recruiting. I have no idea, but when was the last time SJU lost 3 straight to UST? Gotta think that would be another serious blow to Johnnie pride. And then there's always the blowout factor. I'd be really surprised if this game got out of hand and shocked if SJU won in a blowout (but they've done that sort of thing before, 2001 Bethel  :o). But you don't lose to a team 63-7 and not have a little something nagging the back of your mind going into the game next year. They need a good first quarter/half. If the Tommies get rolling the doubt could creep back in.

Personally, I think we see a return to the norm. A close fought, hard contested game. Even a horrible UST team in 2003 played the eventual national champs close. Should be a another great one on Saturday.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of writing my response...exactly what I was thinking.  Last year it was a forgone conclusion that UST was going to win.  People that follow the MIAC really weren't surprised by the beat down in St. Paul.  SJU needs this game to be competitive and a win would be huge confidence builder for the program.  A loss on Saturday would mean that only this year's senior class would have only one win against the Tommies.  I would think that could become a pretty big monkey on the back of the underclassmen.

How big is that Monkey anyhow?

The players can focus one game at a time, but I'm skipping ahead  ;)

I would have to say I envision the Monkey to look kike this...

How soon we forget! Ol' Gags was infamous for often leaving the 1's in much "past the time the game was in question."

Also don't forget that we're not that far removed from the days of no automatic play-off bids.  At that time, trouncing teams upped your stock.

Good point.

Cretin will be playing their homecoming game against Stillwater on ESPN2 at UST on Friday night: http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_24073763/espn2-bringing-some-big-time-cretin-derham-hall?source=rss

Must have scheduled that before the Cretin Raiders played the Roseville Raiders.   :o

Good luck to Coach (and SJU All-American linebacker) Beau Labore and the Ponies tonight!

JOHNNIES #1  ;)

Statistics are like bikinis...

Let's not forget that St. John's is an all male institution and that when compared to the incomes of institutions that includes both males and females it is not too difficult to expect that the earning power to be higher. Just sayin'.

PS. in the methodology link (http://www.affordablecollegesonline.org/online-colleges/high-roi-colleges-methodology/)  there is no mention of comparing the sexes concerning income.

If Tommies are again in a position of running up the score against the Johnnies, I have no problem if it's the starters doing it or a third-stringer. It's the old saying, don't like it, stop them. And obviously the Johnnies have had starters putting up scores long after the game was decided. And that was fine. That said, when the Johnnies would put up 50 or 60 or more it wasn't necessarily the starters but the backups who continued passing, which always upset people even though that's perfectly fine too (why should a backup who hardly gets to play only get to hand off the ball?).

To me the reason you want to get starters out is solely because of injury possibility, not because it's unsportsmanlike.

How about a straw poll for tonight's game - who's going?

I wish I could but having to be at work at 6:00 am on Friday takes the fun out of a weekday game. And I only see an audio link on D3 Football's Top 25 Schedule. Is this game not being streamed? If that's true, it's a shame because I would think that it would get some national viewers, as there is not much else going on tonight.

Faunch, sorry we won't have any pulled pork for the Stiftungsfestivities this Saturday. The smoked animal flesh sounds good for the future. Maybe we could have some barbecued raccoon as another culinary delight! Heading out to Norwood Young America after work today to pick up the Stiftungsfest burger for the tailgate. It would be nice to have some jello shots again for the tailgate.

Is the St Johns/Eau Claire game being streamed?  All I can find is directions to listen to it.  I'm thinking that perhaps its not on the website yet as it seems all games are streamed these days.

I'll be joining 57, Bennie, and Oz watching the webcast from Amsterdam.  Oops.  Listening to Mark and Brian.  Some things never change.  Sorry I'm missing you on this one 56321.  Try to keep TDT  from offending anyone since I won't be there to babysit.   ::)
