Excited for SJU football in one week.

Agreed. Looking forward to seeing what the new coaching staff is able to do in year one. I'm a complete Ramler bobo and think some of the staff changes should provide a more cohesive staff. Hoping that cleans up some of the silly mistakes that have bit SJU in the last few years that were never a problem before.

I was curious and wanted to look back at what folks had anticipated for Ramler this season.  I found this post funny b/c the staff may be cohesive, but Ramler's ball security drills are anything but  ;D

As for being a fan say what you want! I have embraced the MIAC and the teams, so if you think I am going away as a fair weather fan get real! I will be here for the long haul maybe you should just enjoy the banter.

I was afraid this might be the case

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."  Look at that a nursery rhyme it dose fit my intelligence level...

That is the first thing you've said on these boards that I actually agree with!

And don't worry Bench, Vegas, et. al. Most of us are intelligent enough to separate the morons morans of a fan base from the guys worth interacting with.

Corrected.

The reason the "+" side for the Johnnie posters is way up there, is that most have been around long enough to have had that ability for quite some time, and have used it, wisely, or, unwisely. Take your pick.

When the Tommie posters hang around long enough (and it appears that they are here to stay for a while, they too can enjoy the smitefest.

CT. If you proofread your (you're) messages prior to clicking the "Post" , it might help you overcome the impreesion you leave regarding your familiarity with the English language, and its (it's) nuances. That is one of the reasons for the "moron" appellation, though not the entire reason.

Does your behavior on this board have any effect on your son or possibly affect the way your son is viewed?

x2!  And with only 6 freshman on the roster from the Chicago vicinity, I can't imagine that CT's identity is too secret.
Too bad we this isn't the Main Board on Rivals.  I have seen their sleuths take much less detail than is available for CT and in a day or two have pictures of the guy, maps to his house, pictures of his car and a bunch of other info.

Looking forward to the game at the Scoreboard Bowl Sat. St Glenn and his costars, or are they just extras, are the favorites for obvious reasons...#2 ranking (or is it #1), 36 straight MIAC wins, 3-in-a-row over SJU and a home field advtange which should be roughly 60% UST supporters.

Ramler though is one of the reasons I have some optimism this weekend. The Jays have not been world beaters the first two weeks but 2-0 is better than the alternative. I gave the team a pass on week one for it being a road game to open the season with a lot of obvious changes. The week two opponent was better, and at full strength, and it sounds like the Jays had chances to break it open.

My hope is Ramler and company have been holding some things back in anticipation of this game. A win at this stage for new staff would be a huge start for them. I have to imagine there will be some new formations or play calls this Sat on offense that haven't been used so far.

Defense will probably be as is in terms of scheme. The Johnnies should be ready for St Glenn's play calls. I feel like I know what they are going to run or fake 75% of the time. SJU cannot give up a TD on the roll out right, throwback to the left play this Sat. It's coming, you know it is. A friend of mine who is a UST grad and did his grad work at Bethel mentioned the Royals call that play "A$$hole." I'd tend to agree but every team falls for it.

Boys of Fall

Is the karma on this board somewhat like the United Nations, if they agree with you it's a good thing, if not, well who needs it.

That play is painful to watch from the stands...you can see it coming with the half-hearted roll out and the TE sneaking in the opposite direction across the field.

If you watch their 2012 highlight tape, you see them score a TD on it in almost every game.

I know that GC can do no wrong in some of your eyes, but it's things like this that irk me.  He is the anti-John Gagliardi.

Can I get really picky?  It's the slight head tilt that puts me over the edge. It tries to impart that little bit of emotional significance to THIS REALLY BIG DEAL of being on the team. Even though I never played ball at SJU, one of the things that I really liked about the school was that you didn't really even know who the ball players were unless you knew. There was no idolisation. No rockstar atmosphere. St Glenn's head tilt and this photo in general do not convey the same morality.

A second thought about this picture and my regard of Gagliardi: he always treated football as a stepping stone to somewhere else in life - demonstrated by all seniors being named captain.  This picture has the feeling of a cult of personality where this is as good as it gets for these players - they get to be one of an anonymous herd surrounding the center of the program's attention. Actually, the more I think of it that way the more I really don't like this photo. Only one person is known; everyone else is a supporting act.

EDIT: even more on that line - the photo is darkened the further you get away from St Glenn. The players on the edge are really anonymous while the players near him get join in the radiance centered around him. I bet the people putting this together had no idea of the image they were creating, the cult of personality worship becoming so ingrained n our society.

I in no way support whatever CT posted (can't deny that I've enjoyed watching the fall out, he is the Miley Cyrus of post patterns).  That being said, why don't we leave the policing to Pat.

IMO, the rest is just a double standard.  The same guys who are policing other posters are the same ones on a soap box about Caruso's character - from some self appointed moral high ground.  Yeah CT was a bit more crass (some bad photo shop I guess)......but all these comments are a lot closer in color than some may represent.  I would guess that neither parties would say these things to the respective coaches.

Rag on the new guys as much as you'd like.  The old country club atmosphere is just as unbecoming.  We can't see the double dutch rudder (that's the latest ref for CJing) y'all pull.......but the double standard policing is on display.

RD-your post just hit it out of the park! Extremely well put. The double standard at play here is laughable. Unfortunately there will be the cyber bully d-bags on any message board, but thankfully they seem to be the minority and become even more so with each Tommie victory!

CT, I didn't have the pleasure of seeing your post, but I found your description of it to be hilarious! It sounds like your skin is thick enough to take the criticism from the masses, but I will tell you that I have enjoyed your pot stirring (grammatical errors and all). You know your posts are effective when the only response you get is criticism of your grammar/punctuation. For the record-I don't take myself seriously enough to think that I don't have typos or grammatical/punctuation errors myself from time to time and I certainly don't have time to proof read posts, so you won't catch me playing grammar police. In regards to your offer to buy beer-I too, am in Chicago and would love to share some sacrament with you anytime-ping me and we can coordinate.

If I've said it once here, I've said it a million times-for a LONG time this board was a John smoke fest and was extremely one sided. Now that the tide has turned, most of the J posters have showed an extreme inability to tolerate any posts pro Tommie/anti John. I, for one have enjoyed their misery-one of the many benefits to this board. There certainly are some J posters who have the ability to take what they give and have worthwhile, objective insights that I have come to appreciate too.

All that being said, are there seriously any Johns out there who think your boys stand a chance Saturday? ;D Roll TOMMIES!

Thanks DoubleO.

I would be just as curious to get everyone's take on how this rivalry will shake out over the next 5 years?

I'll take the Tommies this weekend, and then 3-1 over the next four years, for a 5 year run of 4-1.

Relatively speaking, the teams of 2009 and 2010 about equal at a B grade, hence the close games.  UST has moved up the grade scale in 2011 and 2012, while SJ1 has moved down, hence the margins.  I'm guessing UST holds steady at its current grade of A-/A+, while SJ1 continues to improve.  That equates to years 4 and 5 becoming a toss up, so SJ1 gets 1 of those for a win.  Maybe year 3 is more competitive than is representative of the teams....as these rivalry games are always close.  SJ1 then steals one more win at best.
The last shall be first and the shall be.......

There were 9 classes in a row at UST that didn't beat SJ1......here is hoping for the first at SJ1 in a long time!

Kind of loving that this play was dubbed "a$$hole."

It's all about LB discipline in terms of defending it I would imagine. If the TE crashes down on an end, or works the second level  to feign a block on a Mike or Sam, then I think instinct takes over and the immediate tendency is to flow to the ball. Once that happens, the TE can sneak out the back door, and if the defense is in man-to-man pass coverage, or the defender on the back side of the zone abandons his post, boom, TD or big play.

This can work plenty in college against over zealous defenses, but after seeing it for a few years I would imagine it won't be there as often this year. However, over the course of a game, watching Matt O'Connell roll right and throw a deep post or a dig to a back side receiver or tight end, I can see how this would work later in the game even if a team knew it would make an appearance at some point.

A man enters a bar and orders a drink. The bar has a robot bartender.
The robot serves him a perfectly prepared cocktail, and then asks him, "What's your IQ?"
The man replies, "150", and the robot proceeds to make conversation about global warming, factors, quantum physics and spirituality, biomimicry, environmental interconnectedness, string theory, nano-technology, and sexual proclivities.
The customer is very impressed and thinks, "This is really cool.", and decides to test the robot. He walks out of the bar, turns around, and comes back in for another drink.
Again, the robot serves him the perfectly prepared drink and asks him, "What's your IQ?"
"About a 100," the man responds.
Immediately the robot starts talking, but this time about football, baseball, supermodels, favorite fast foods, guns, and the like.
Really impressed, the man leaves then walks in again.
"What's your IQ?" the robot asks.
"Er, 50, I think."
And the robot responds, very, very slowly, "So, I expect you'll be following St Thomas again this year?

Today during the Q and A with Coach Fasching I asked about video webcasts of games:
Comment From VM
Gary...congrats on the two wins. Love seeing the improved athleticism of the Johnnies. Question...why is there no online video webcast of home games? Almost every team in the league provides something. The UST broadcast is top notch. Not having it makes SJU look out of touch with the modern age of online video streaming. High schools are even doing it. As much as those of us that live in the metro or outside of Stearns County would love to get to every home game we simple can't. Many of us have families and commitments that keep us from making the drive up every weekend. In addition a webcast would be a great marketing, recruiting and promotional tool for the team, athletic department and university. The school has the resources as they have webcast basketball games and football games (albeit to alumni in other states). I understand that there is a concern about a drop off in attendance but the truth is that if the team wins the attendance numbers will be there. It would also be great to see game video highlights on the GoJohnnies website. It would really help to sell the program. The fact is that many alums would even pay for this access. Thanks
[/size]

Gary's response (not terribly promising BTW...I think they're missing out on a huge opportunity):
Gary Fasching: I know this question has come up often with our great fans, this is the decision of our Administration. I have talked with them about it, and this is the route that they want to go. I don't know enough about the impact this would have on our attendance. Maybe some day this will change, but for now, the decision has been made.

Whether it works or not, the genius is in the next wrinkle.....you line up in the same formation, the LBs loose a half step holding to respect the play and that's enough for the RB to gain that extra head of steam and.....................
BOOM, KARMA STATUS INITIATED ;D.
