You were a great drunken 20 something and a good example for a 6 year old boy attending the 2003 championship game.  :)

Hopefully, I didn't traumatize him too much!  ;)  At least he wasn't around for "Stagg Bowl Eve".

Smokefest

Ah.  That was my assumption, but I'm still not sure how that applies to the situation.

It can also refer to something, shall we say, a bit more carnal - which was my understanding of the way the term was being used on here.

I might have once been young and naive, but not any more. This was my assumption as well! 8-)

Truth is at the age of 44 I really don't enjoy being around a bunch of obnoxious, drunken late teen and twenty year olds.

WHAT?!?!

Truth is, at the age of 32, I don't, either.  Although I have been one of those obnoxious, drunken guys plenty of times.  ;D

Stats from last year's game day and evening....53 alcohol related citations and at least 12 people sent to St. Cloud ER for extreme intoxication.  What's the over under this year?  Can we get this in the pickems?

Will anybody blow above a .35 this year?  Will Ramsey County detox be filled to capacity?

Maybe, but I'd venture to say it more in line with the following.

We say "what are you smoking?" to someone who is talking funny or acting strange, implying they smoked some unusual grass.

By extension, a group of people talking funny, smoking something strange, would collectively be engaged in a "smokefest."
The Jay backers are often smoking the John G grass and going on and on about him.  Its not perfect,  but I'm guessing that is what he means.

In a similar vein, could say the smoke in smokefest is a reference to the phrase "blowing smoke up your a$$," which is exaggerating one's your position/worth.......the Jay backers like to do that to each other on this board.

The last shall be first and the shall be.......

The context I've heard it in is when I'm at the gym playing basketball with the young fellas (being 28, I feel aged when I'm playing against a bunch of 22 year olds), they'll use the term "smokefest" to refer to a high density of attractive women.  Such as, "It is an absolute smokefest down by the cardio machines right now."

Getting back to important topics, I tried a new local brew this past weekend

http://www.bigwoodbrewery.com/Big_Wood_Brewery/Minnesota_Craft_Beer___www.bigwoodbrewery___HOME.html

I took home a 4 pack of their APA, and found it to be quite enjoyable.  A little steep at $9.99 (I'm not on a U$T budget), but you're still saving a buck or two over Surly Furious, which remains as my favorite.

I bet the young fellas were saying "smokeshow", not "smokefest".

Ahh...upon further review, you may be correct.  I wasn't at my best cognitively due to the cardio stress I was under from chasing the aforementioned young fellas up and down the court.

Clearly you NWC, I'm sorry, I mean UNWSP alums are much more up to date on the modern slang than this BU alum.

I am torn about attending the game Saturday at U$T.   It used to be one of my favorite games to attend...however considering the insults that were hurled at me by drunkin' college students and alums two years ago (literally from the time I got out of the car) I think I'd rather go watch my daughters 10U softball games.  The reports of drunkenness and immature behavior last year in Collegeville were equally as bad (this coming from my brother...a high school football coach and SJU graduate).  I know that people will
Did you just pass out at your keyboard?

No...accidentally hit post and shut my computer....to finish

....people will ask if I ever got a little inebriated prior to a football game (U$T / SJU).  The truth is that I don't believe I ever was a drunken idiot at one of the games will in college...maybe a bit at Simpson / SJU playoff game in the late 80's early 90's.  That may have had more to do with being hungover from the night before.  Truth is at the age of 44 I really don't enjoy being around a bunch of obnoxious, drunken late teen and twenty year olds.
The Simpson/SJU game in '89 was a classic.  Ricky Gales put on a fantastic show only to be matched by the Johnnies own high scoring offense.  I also remember having some cocktails before and during that game...it was cold outside so we  had to do it.

I took it to mean "NOT UW-Steven's Point" (i.e., NOT an athletic powerhouse). I guess I need to find a smokeathon with a weedshow to get up to speed with things.  :D
