Clearly you NWC, I'm sorry, I mean UNWSP alums are much more up to date on the modern slang than this BU alum.

Just slides right off the tongue doesn't it  ;) It actually looks like an acronym for some UN related program.
I spoke to President Cureton on Sunday and didn't notice anything UN related, but I wouldn't admit to working with the United Nations either.  I believe UNW is the preferred acronym unless you're referring to the website.  Basically, they want to still be called Northwestern and be a University (for purposes of marketing to foreigners where "college" might mean the equivalent of high school) without being sued.

Can someone confirm the following rumor?

As some articles have hinted, Gag's wasn't exactly ready to retire after last season.  I'm now hearing there was a bit of a heated back and forth between Stock and Gags.  Gag's finally gave in after Stock threatened to change the school's mascot from the "Rat" to an "Opposum."  Crazy right, but I guess Stock's reasoning, says my source:
"Because they'd been playing dead at home and getting killed on the road."

I miss the days where being a university meant that you have more than one college... ::)

A new teach start the Snelling Ave local Catholic elementary is trying to make a good impression on her first day and explains to her class that she is a Tommie fan.  She asks her students to raise their hands if they are Tommie fans. Everyone in the class raises their hand except one boy.

The teacher looks at the boy with surprise and says: "Little Johnny, why didn't you raise your hand?"

"Because I'm not a St Thomas fan," he replied.

The teacher, still shocked, asked: "Well, if you're not a St Thomas fan, then who are you a fan of?"

"I'm a St John's fan, and proud of it," Little Johnny replied.

The teacher could not believe her ears. "Little Johnny, why are you a Johnnie fan?"

My mom and dad were born and raised in St Joes, so my mom is a Johnnie fan and my dad is a
Johnnie fan, and so I'm a Johnnie fan too!"

"Well," said the teacher, in an obviously annoyed tone, "that's no reason for you to be a St John's fan.
You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mom was a prostitute, your dad was a drug addict, and your brother was a car thief, what would you be then?"

"Then," Little Johnny said, "I'd be a St Thomas fan."

Tip of the cap to Fasching for giving some sound bites to the UST student run rag this week....

"Sure, there might be a few more fans than other games, but they are all equally important," Braddock said. "If we lose one game then we are on the road for the playoffs, so they're all big."

Did you notice this quote?  It's telling that Braddock overlooked the more immediate impact of an in-conference loss--the possibility of not making the playoffs!

A St. John's player was almost killed in a tragic horseback riding accident. He fell from the horse and was nearly trampled to death. Thank God the manager of the KMart in St. Cloud came out and unplugged it.

HEADLINE: Gagliardi takes first his first national endorsement deal to the airwaves...

COLLEGEVILLE - Long time St. John's football coach John Gagliardi is taking his wit to the airwaves this fall.  The first of a series of national radio spots will air this weekend during the annual Tommie Johnnie game.  Here is a preview of the ad, which can be heard on WCCO Radio, AM 830.

NARRATOR:    "The winning-est coach in college football history, John Gagliardi, called it quits last year after."
GAGLIARDI:    "60 years as the head coach is a long time.  Did I want to keep going, sure, but sometimes you have to let go, I                                             couldn't hold on to it any longer."
NARRATOR:    "Depends, for when you can't hold on to it any longer."

edit: I wonder if Dave Lee got the narrator gig for 'CCO?  Wouldn't that really chap the Jays' hides.

In preparation for a possible drubbing Saturday... :'(

When do Tommie players NOT run up the score?

When they are taking their SAT's.

In order to be a tommie player, one would have to assume that they are enrolled in U$T and on the football team, which begs the question....

When do Bennies realize that current college students don't take the SAT's?

Really? Per St. Thomas's website:

Freshman applicants must submit a completed application for admission, a writing sample, an official high school transcript and official ACT or SAT scores. We evaluate each student on the strength of his or her high school record, test scores, writing sample, and any other supporting information included with his or her application.

SAT or ACT tends to be a regional thing. ACT's are more popular in the midwest (for whatever reason) and SAT's are more popular in the rest of the country (per my friends that work in admissions).

What I mean to say, is that if you're a Tommie Player, you're actively on the team and already in college.  SAT's are taken by high school students who plan to attend college.  You could say "When do prospective Tommie players not run up the score?"

I doubt anyone on the team has taken the SAT while already in college.

Just being pedantic...   ;)

Oi! With the overly literal I would have thought you went to Carleton! I use to work with someone from Carleton, so I know of what I speak! ;)

From the resident MIACPP -WIAC guy, is it too hard for some posters to figure out that making fun of a wonderful man like John Gagliardi is not only completely disrespectful, but also totally unfunny and quite honestly kind of sick. Should we reach his age with the respect he has earned then we will have done something. Something to strive for as opposed to making twisted jokes about a very respected retired man on a football message board.
