I Will give you this I hope your program is on the rise it will only make the MIAC better and I will enjoy the Tommie Johnny game in future more!  ;D ;D ;D

Buddy, John and Saint John's made the MIAC what it is.  It's going to take more than a handful of conference titles before U$T and St. Glenn are ready to put down the sippy cup and take a gulp from the big-boy cup.
CT already said he doesn't care about the past we Johnnies are living in.  Because of that I say SJU has the winningest by percentage coach in MIAC and NCAA history.  Becasue the past doesn't matter according to some.
Kehres has him beat by a pretty large margin if you're going by percentage.  10th in win pct. among coaches with 200 wins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_college_football_coaches_with_200_wins

I think he meant Fasching, who does have a pretty good winning percentage.
Good point.  I may have to move the line.

....I'd forgotten to ask during camp, but anyone have a view on how LaPanta's kid looked up in Collegeville?

Is he the "hair" apparent to Bruns?

My issue with a couple of the "jokes" that had John in them (Can't dress himself anymore, Depends) is that the focus was on the age he has achieved. I think senior citizens deserve respect, not be made fun of because their bodies aren't what they once were, public figure or not.
Take a shot at John because you think he stayed on too long? I'd have no problem with that subject and I'm sure the Johnnie faithful would be up to the task of discussing it.

C'mon, Bench.  Bruns is SJU's back-up QB.  LaPanta would be Martin's "hair" apparent.  :D

He walked past me last week prior to the game...he looked small.

Where have you been?  Martin is out for a couple games with a bruised labrum.

Offered without comment, an article from Pat Borzi at MinnPost:

St. John's athletics perseveres — without embracing sports' 'economic arms race' http://bit.ly/17MC8DJ

Stock has done a nice job spinning this story......Borzi bought it hook line and sinker (I don't follow Borzi or know his proclivities).

"The McGlynn Fitness Center at St. John's, at about 5,600 square feet, appears inadequate by comparison".....really?  The article doesn't give the dimensions of USTs individual rooms....just the total size at 180,000.  I can't find the size of the individual parts, but think about it...
Field House = 1/2 @ 90,000
Bball Gym = 1/3 of remaining at 30,000
Pool = about same @ 30,000
Remaining.....30,000
Take out 5,000 for a very large entry way (this was part of the intentional design aesthetic)
15,000 to locker rooms for varsity teams, guys, girls, visitors (best guess?).
That leaves 10,000 left....
Some of that is in offices......and the rest is for the weight room and the fitness room.
I haven't seen much of either.....maybe someone can tweak these number.

Maybe someday in my spare time I'll do spreadsheet of facilities in the MIAC.  This arms race has been going on for 15+ years.....and I believe SJ1 started it.  Gustavus, St. Olaf, and Mac have followed suite. UST sat on its hands for forever. When it did finally make the facilities a priority, UST stole a page right out of the SJ1 playbook, get a rich local guy who is not an alum to donate you the money - McNeely, Yale and Anderson, West Point.

Curious if anyone has a source that gives the $ that went into the Spectrum and Fitness Center in 1997?  Stock conveniently has forgotten.
* whatever that number is, inflation adjust it at 2% over 15 years......that would be about a 32% increase, so $10M then would be $13.2M today.

From the article....
That's why, in a fund-raising brochure on the St. John's football website, Stock is quoted as saying that St. John's doesn't need a new $52 million complex. The direct reference to St. Thomas likely plays well with Johnnie alums, but Stock seemed uncomfortable talking about it.

Reminds me of the passive aggressive nature I've seen out of SJ1 in the past.....I'm trying to remember ONE instance in particular, but can't put my finger on it...

I think, at the time, SJU definitely put the rest of the MIAC to shame with their athletic facility updates.  Times have changed, and the majority of the MIAC has caught up to, or surpassed, SJU.  Not that SJU's facilities are anything to sneeze at--they're damn nice.  SJU's now feeling the need to up the ante again.

Borzi's good; has written about SJU in the past. Has written about St. Thomas in the past.

That said...

QuoteThe athletic administration wing of the Warner Palaestra, which opened in 1974, is air-conditioned. But the really muggy days, Stock said, require a little more. Instead of lowering the thermostat, he runs a fan, which costs less to use.

Come on. Give me a break. Please. Eye roll. Eye roll emoticon.

Pick one.

AO

If the St. John's athletic upgrades cost $18 Million, why not make it $18.5 Million and cover all potential attendance losses that video web-casting might bring for the next 25 years.

Yeah and they did a nice job back then.
Btw...USTs inflation adjusted $52M back in 1997 would be about $41M.....still a lot of money.
Also, 2% is probably a little low for construction inflation.
