Math's hard...especially after a night of debauchery with OneArmedScot! ;)

Hope everyone saw my pal Wildcat11's video on TheBigLead.com yesterday.  I'm told it did over 60K views in 24 hours.  Exceptional camera work, TDT loved the spot shadow.  Even more amazing is that I'm told the score was 6-0 at the time.  Whoa baby Linfield looks like a monster again this year.

67K views...You know I bust my backside in creating a cool spring ball video that's now at 13K views (thank you, P.C.) but a 20 second clip of a dirty hit does 5x the traffic in one day is a little defeating.  :)

Okay I think we're set for tomorrow.  Went to Happy Hour with old friend OneArmedScot last night at Mancini's and he then insisted I come over to his house for dinner.  Man did he outkick his coverage.  His wife cooked us dinner and served copious amounts of beer while we watched football.

Injury Report for Saturday: Veek (Out), L.L. Bean (Doubtful), RetiredOldRat (Probable), Benchwarmer (Questionable), Carbo (Questionable), Tmerton (Out), Finsleft (Questionable), OneArmedScot (Probable), KiltedRat (Out), RedHotBennie (Probable), Faunch (Probable)

We'll be tailgating at 10am.  Benchwarmer: Stop at Davanni's and get us a platter of those delicious brownies.  And a 30 pak of Hamm's.  Also, many thanks to your scumbag Tommie brethren for the $10 admission.  I was there scouting a couple weeks ago and it was $8.  I know money is tight at Cretin and Summit these days.  Understandable.

Put me down as questionable at best...I know it's only an extra $2 but it really does chap my hide that the price gets jacked up when the Jays come to town.  That's really in the tradition of D3...invite your fellow Catholics down and jack up the ticket price.  And before anyone tries to say that SJU does that same thing when U$T comes to Collegeville I will tell you that is complete BS.  Ticket prices for all of SJU's home games are the same for every game.
Pretty humorous when you consider that Carleton doesn't even charge admission for any of their games.

With the game being broadcast on the web I can watch it on the TV and actually have a place to sit while watching and put the extra $2 bucks toward beer.  If the game gets out of hand I might as well clean the garage.  As of now the only reason I would attend is if my 13 year old daughter still wants to go.

The Cobber/Ole "Troll Trophy" could get on ESPN College Gameday this weekend. http://peterson.areavoices.com/2013/09/18/the-ugliest-traveling-trophy-in-college-football-could-make-an-appearance-on-espn/

Is the Troll Trophy that big of a deal? I feel like I'm pretty plugged into the MIAC in general, when I'm not blinded by my Johnnie red and smokefests, but I don't remember hearing about the trophy in other years. It's been discussed on this board and I've seen multiple mentions of it in my twitter feed. Is it simply the fact that Gameday is going to be in the area so those associated with the trophy are trying to build it up? I don't ask to criticize, just curious.

I'm obviously not an Ole or Cobber, but I've heard of the troll before. I can't say how intense the rivalry is, but I think there's a little bad blood between both sides. Though I Olaf obviously hates Carleton with special level of vitriol.

Which brings up another question I guess. Who would Concordia consider their biggest MIAC rival? SJU, St. Olaf, Bethel, UST?
This is always a big game for the Cobbers and I would assume the Oles. The Troll does add excitment to the game. It was always fun after the game running over to it and lifting it up and taking pictures with it. It just worked out well that Gameday was coming to town this week to get some good pub for Concordia and the MIAC in general, and this was the unique way that it could happen.

But as a former player the St. Johns game was always the biggest.  Though the St. Thomas, St. Olaf and Bethal games are always big ones too.

I don't think it has the history of the Goat Trophy.  I want to say the Troll trophy game only dates back about 30-40 years.  It has also been known as the Lefse Bowl.  In fact I seem to remember a different trophy from when I was at St. Olaf.  Like most St. Olaf rivalries it is bigger with the older alumni than with younger students.  The Norwegian heritage of St. Olaf lends itself to rivalries also with Augsburg and Gustavus.  The other programs at several of these schools add to the rivalry.  I've been to a few athletic contests where someone has started talking trash comparing music programs.

RE: Hamm's

Couple of things a) not a poor law student anymore, a Dirty 30 at 8.99 while economical, is only nostalgic for the first half dozen or so. After that...I'm lukewarm to its taste b) got a wife and a 300 mile trip on Sunday to factor in. When it comes to Hamm's influenced flatulence, there's only so much of my own beefs I can take, let alone Mrs. Benchwarmer.

RE: Brownies from Davanni's

Not as familiar as I'd usually just eat pizza like a maniac until I was so full I couldn't stand the thought of a brownie.

The fresherest Grain Belt is in New Ulm. Just not a Summit or Surly guy I guess.

Surly, yes.  Summit, no.  :o

Hmmm...... I think we all can Agree to Disagree!  ;)

I'm with Duff on this...I sort of like EPA, but for the most part I'm not crazy about their beers.

Surly on the other hand...Furious, Cynic, Overrated, Bender...that is a fantastic portfolio of beers.

Wow Benchwarmer, 2007 musta been a helluva year.  Was Frank Rickard, The Mongolian Warrior, and Walter Sobchak still around then?  Really admire your dedication and perseverance.  Was the 2008 injury, in part, due to your jewels being placed on the mantle of your fireplace at your Grand Forks McMansion?  Nice spreadsheet work, really helped me put things in perspective.

Forgot to mention that TDT was out at Totino-Grace vs Eden Prairie last Thursday night.  Saw the animated and occasionally bare chested excitable Arena League alum Frank Haege stroll in late/leave early.  Kissing babies and preaching MIAC title aspirations.  Auggie Tech means business people!!!

Also, noticed that former UST coach and longtime Johnnie fan favorite Don Roney is now an assistant coach for Totino-Grace.  Thought that was interesting as I hadn't heard much from him since his untimely departure from St. Thomas.  Must be working in the private sector teaching at TG high school maybe??

I wish this game was in Collegeville every year.  Let you deal with the drunks and disruption.  BTW, I don't recall that St. John's had any extra seats last year.  Maybe that's their payback for UST charging $2 more per adult.
