Wow - the MIAC had really narrow point spreads this week. St. John's beats UST by 2, Augsburg beats Gustavus and Caleton beats Hamline by 3 and Concordia beats St. Olaf by 4. Yeah, it's going to be an interesting year in the MIAC.

After the game, I had plans that kept me from home until 11 or so.  My phone isnt very smart (its barely above dumb), or I would have posted sooner (and no, I not under suicide watch).

The game was my worst fear- an overconfident UST team, getting outplayed and outcoached. STUPID penalties and way too many of them as well as 5 ugly turnovers (and a total botch job on SJU's first punt compounded by dumb play on the next punt). I still believe UST shoulda won handily, but SJU played mistake free ball, played smarter and made things happen, and THAT is how you win games not even your staunchest supports a(about 90% of the "smokefest crowd" on here) felt you had a chance at winning...it was an awesome atmopshere though, and a UST record crowd of 10,800.

A funny side note...only 11 were arrested for public intox/underage....including one guy (not sure if a tom or a john) who attempted to run from the cops and ran headfirst into a light pole! Guess he was DEFINITELY wasted. Could it have been TDT?
There was also a party of 300 students that was broken up by nine cops.  I'm pretty sure this was the one that is 3 doors down from where I live and is right across the alley from Summit.  The din was so loud I thought it was coming from campus.  I stopped on the sidewalk in front of this place on my way to the game.  Kid comes up and puts his arm around me and asks how I'm doing.  I asked "do you know who lives here."  Kid says "I do".  I say "for now".  It was so crowed that I'm sure by the time the cops came it had spilled into Grand Ave.  Oh, and there was a guy peeing in plain view by the front corner of the house.

Reminded me of the greatest party I ever went to at St. John's.  Some guy was moving out of a farmhouse under what were apparently acrimonious circumstances.  The house got completely trashed and we (have to say I participated in this part) rolled over a rather large corn-crib and made it into a bon-fire.  Can't remember anything after that.

Out and about, missed whole thing. Can't wait to listen to replay (and do Tommies replay video?). That said, let's make sure to win with class...and the proper use of apostrophes.

My 42-7 prediction was slightly off...

And yeah SJU needed 5 turnovers and missed kick but like I wrote this week, that was how they'd win this and the Tommies cooperated and Johnnies are good enough to take just enough advantage. Shoe's definitely on the other foot -- feels like all those games SJU had over the years where they'd have 4, 5 - 10 - turnovers and still have a chance, like the Tommies did.

Yes you can watch the game in the archives.

High above the Sagatagan,
Towering o'er the oak and pine,
Proudly stands our alma mater,

Alma mater we'll be loyal
Ever love and praise thy name.
Hail, all hail Saint John's our mother,
We thy honor will proclaim.

Sam Sura is one tough little SOB.  When was the last time one running back essentially played the entire game for the Johnnies?  Could it have been Chris Moore back in the lat 90's early 2000's?

Upon Further Reflection.

The absolute best part of yesterday is that Coach Caruso NEVER saw this coming, NEVER allowed for the possibility and now has to deal with a new reality.  A reality in which UST will

NEVER see a #1 ranking in football, EVER

NEVER experience a National Championship in football, EVER, and

In hindsight will realize that September 20, 2013 was the peak, the pinnacle of the F.A.M.I.L.Y. and that hubris (given the departure of Mark Dienhart) will be the only lasting legacy of Head Football Coach Glenn Caruso, a Coach who so dismissed his major rival, a rival in re-building mode, a rival with a new coaching staff, that in his half-time interview, he couldn't even consider that said rival even belonged on the same field as his team, and

Just to ensure that the above lessons are firmly ensconced in time memorial, UST will lose at least one more game this season and two wouldn't be without possibility.  There is blood in the water and others will want a taste!

Thanks for clearing up my confusion sfury. I thought Zim was "one of us." How much of an idiot am I that I am criticizing him for not "Getting it" when it is I who didn't get it. Not the first time, and won't be the last I'm sure.

So True. Bethel and Augsburg are road games for the Tomcats. Concordia plays in St. Paul but could be a factor as well. Is it possible the Toms could see 3 conference losses in 2013? If this occurs,Caruso will lose his mind....Stay tuned this could be a wild season in the MIAC.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Fulda's finest Kent Crowley was a workhorse during the 2002 season.

As SFury pointed out, I am not the best with quote function on the board (but yes, one hell of a bunter and SJU fan).  I was celebrating with my second can of Surly and my post might not have made a lot of sense.  Luckily, since I have known SFury since 1st grade, he knew what I meant.  You know you have written an effective post when someone else has to translate it for it to make sense to the rest of the board.
