Wow, just spent about 30 minutes reading all the posts since Saturday.  Some great cameos and analysis.

-I enjoyed watching the procession of Tommies dragged out of the SJU student section.  Had to be at least 10 who the UST rent a cops dragged outta there (maybe for their own safety??).

-My favorite sign of the day: Caruso Drinks Wine Coolers...saw it while we walked in and pointed it out to DustySJU, we laughed, and the Tommie mom in front of us found ZERO humor in the sign, quickly spouting "No he doesn't" in the snottiest voice you can imagine!!!

-Great tailgate on Saturday morning.  MIACPP celebrities in attendance included Carbo, OneArmedScot, UST Benchwarmer, Finsleft, Retired Old Rat, etc.

-Really a terrific atmosphere at UST.  The game was very competitive (albeit sloppy at times).  The officials had a tough afternoon.  They missed several blocks in the back & holding calls while making a very bizarre call on the illegal number penalty in the 4th qtr (that required much debate among the officials and was ultimately declined by UST).  Having two #1's on the travel roster of 53 is borderline ridiculous.  Give every player who travels/plays a different number.  Anyone else ever seen that called before?

-Anyone know who's in charge of the music at UST?  It was loud enough that I bet even MIAC Maniac could hear it.  In addition, they played the music for 3-4 seconds (it was egregious, not just a few slow trigger finger mistakes, this happened all game) every single time SJU was on offense and at the line of scrimmage.  This has to be explicitly illegal (basically pumping in sound to make it more difficult on the opponent who may/may not want to audible).  Just an FYI for you unfortunate souls who have to go to UST still this Fall...

Gotta run I'm headed to Plum's for Glenn's 7pm film session.  Can't wait to hear the X's and O's!!!

I noticed the artificial noise too...especially on crucial drives in the fourth quarter.  Not even borderline unsportsmanlike...just downright cheap, dirty and classless.  If I want to hear that crap I'll go to a game at the Humpty Dome or go to an Arena Football League game.  MIAC needs to step up and do something about it....total BS and utterly defenseless.
Faunch, maybe you should offer to form a Johnnie advisory committee so that you can do something constructive to try and right all the wrongs at St. Thomas.  I'm sure the administration would welcome your expertise and enthusiasm for uncovering and addressing all of their shortcomings. ;) :D

All for it...where do I sign up?  ;D
Maybe someone from St. Thomas looks at this board once in awhile and will get in touch with you.  I'm thinking you could be in charge and could recruit a committee member from each of the other MIAC schools.

Please review my posts and as much of an SJU homer as I am I have been pretty damn critical of some of the things SJU has done over the last few years.  Even though I congratulated Jimmy on the win Saturday I don't think he would ever invite me over for Sunday dinner.  My first order of business on the committee would be for mandatory video webcasts of all MIAC games.  Why not promote the league with this?  As much as it pains me to write it U$T does a very good job with their webcast.  :-\

Now that I think about it there could probably be representatives from Linfield, Mount Union and whoever the heck BDB's team is.

Hawthorn.  ;D

Let's just say in between the first 2 Tommie-Johnnie opponents.

the funniest part of this story...paragraph 4, sentence 2

I'm pretty sure someone talked about this incident (also found in the aforementioned tommiemedia.com story):

"Prior to the game, Barrett said there was one house party that got out of hand. Nine cops showed up to help control an estimated 300 people at the house. Officers asked the party-goers to leave and continue on to the game."

Don't know if this has been shared.  SJU JV schedule.  A little disappointing they could schedule only one game with another school.  Hopefully with more time to work things out they can line up more JV opponents.

It is interesting that SJU sent 5 Life Safety officers down to help out with crowd control. Hats off to both schools and the St. Paul police for working together to keep everyone safe.

They did that in 2011 as well.  Wasn't in C'ville last year, don't know if UST sent people up.  I suspect they did.  And yes, hat's off.  Not a fun job.

I was walking across the UST campus once and there were quite a few cracks in the sidewalk.  Also, I thought some of the trees could have been greener.

I've heard they have some good dumpster diving outside the cafeteria also. Plus their library has an espresso machine in the mens room near the Old Spice Dispenser.

Plus I think the Cobbers are set for a perfect sleeper year. Everyone is paying attention to the big three and I would not be surprised to see the cornfield beef come rambling down I94 with intent. It's happened before.
Thanks for the nod. Concordia usually stands up to SJU better in the bowl than they do at the Jake. I am hoping that with the Johnnies big victory over USTd, they are caught dreaming a bit this week when the corn rolls. Should that happen, the Cobbers then have a bye week before hosting Bethel for some homecoming revenge. It isn't possible to have four 9-1 teams, but I'm not sure the Cobbers are the odd one out this year.

Can't make it up to Johnnie-land this weekend. I sure will miss the hospitality, the burgers, the red cup, and the healthy mix of back slapping and back stabbing that makes gameday. That gratuity is brought to you by the fine folks at Orville Redenbacher's.

Played golf with two old time Tommies today. One got his undergrad degree there, the other got his undergrad from Auggie Tech, and Graduate degree from UST. Took some money from them, so it was a good day.

This is on par with "St. Olaf won because they didn't cut the grass to our specifications." Except you actually won the game.

Stop the presses, the other school made noise when you were on offense, so "classless", "BS", "utterly defenseless." You'd think they tried landing a Harrier jet in your backfield on 3rd down. Grasping at straws guys. It's really getting out there.

Time to move on.

Looking at stats from Con-Olaf game.  Cobblers attempted 28 passes, 35 rushes.  Much more balanced than their norm, I think. Also, QB was the leading rusher with 14 attempts. Looks like QB play will be especially important for them.

Is this indicative of  the Cobber offensive plan this year?

There is no doubt the Cobbers are playing with more balance this year than in years past. It may reflect individual game plans based on defensive tendencies faced, but the QB actually seems more comfortable going down field than pitching out. I'm not sure this will hold up against the Johnnies, who always seem to have a lot of speedsters in the secondary. I think the Johnnies can expect to see a pretty familiar pile-mover offense from the maroon and gold, playing defense by eating clock on offense (if it works).

QB at the center of the game plan?  A QB that runs?  Where has our defense seen that before?  Oh, I know: UST.  ;D

ROR, you may want to take up meth cooking like Walt in Breaking Bad because you're feeding me a mix like a pro.  You have suddenly made me so giddy for this game that I can't wait.  I was 90% sure that we were far too big for our britches and would get throttled by the Cobbers but now I think we may have a chance.  And if we win it then confidence really builds.

I'm looking forward to AO's tips on this.  It will be difficult to handicap this one.  Until the upset last week the Johnnies would have been underdogs for sure but did Saturday change the actual picture?  I'm not sure.  I may have to pick the Cobbers if the Johnnies are favored by anything more than 3 1/2 points.
