Even though Keith M. described UST as "perennially" in the top five in the podcast, I guess old habits die hard.  :D

"On my ballot, Wesley dropped from No. 5 to No. 9, while the Johnnies went from No. 2 to No. 10. "

SCSU going HD...pretty impressive.  Interesting considering a couple years ago wasn't SCSU on the verge of dropping athletic programs due to budget issues?

http://www.sctimes.com/article/20130924/NEWS01/309230060/SCSU-debut-new-channel-broadcast-Huskies-HD
This is great for fans and students.  I took some broadcast courses at SCSU back in the early 70's as part of my Mass Communications minor.  They already had a good core of TV and Radio broadcast courses back then.  I think that this is being funded more as a academic program expansion than an athletics department expense.  Once completed, the technology can be used for many other academic and college events.  For example, live coverage of on campus concerts, speeches and meetings.

Hopefully the CSB / SJU Communications department will read about this and get some ideas about webcasting events.  I'm doubtful however considering it's the athletic department holding the reigns on this.

I'm shocked SJU doesn't broadcast their games over the internet.  I seriously doubt it would hurt attendance.  Most people that watch the games online do it only because they cannot get to the game for several reasons.  I used to go to a ton of MIAC games after I graduated from St. Olaf just because I liked watching good football.  It was a great value for my entertainment dollar.  Watching the webcast was always a last resort.  The quality was never that great, and nothing beats watching football live.  Just tell the SJU to think of all fans and alumni that can't make to Collegeville for games that might increase their donations because they can now watch a webcast of the game.

Or bring it up in the online chat with Fasching!

I believe the streaming webcast was brought up in one of Gary's first two chats on SCTimes.com this season. And, from what I remember, it is not entirely in his control. He made reference to that decision being something that is nearly exclusively left to the administration (he did not specify whether that's the athletic administrators or university administrators).

I've always been a proponent of streaming the games live, and anyone that argues there would be a precipitous drop in attendance as a result is off their respective rocking chair.

Clemens Stadium is an exceptional place to watch a football game on a Saturday afternoon, and watching the game on webcast is nowhere close to being a worthy substitute if one has the means to get to Collegeville.

By administration I think the AD's office is where this decision lies and I really believe the concern is a drop at the gate.
A couple home basketball games were streamed in recent seasons.  That would indicate they have the technology to pull of a webcast.  Last season they also did video streams of a game to alumni in various parts of the country.   I think my opinion on this issue has been made very plain.  SJU is completely dropping the ball on this and quite honestly it pisses me off to no end.

Right now it appears that Gary and the coaching staff have rejuvenated the program.  3-0 on the season and defeated their rival.   Success on the field and it appears they've had success recruiting players...take a look at the roster sometime. We've got two defensive starters from California.  There's a freshman receiver and two other players from Glendale, AZ and a punter from Anchorage.  More than a dozen on the team are from California.  Two of the freshman are from Louisiana.  One freshman is from Montana and three hail from Nebraska.  There's even a freshman from Firsco, TX.  SJU might have more African-American kids on their roster this year than they ever have had.  SJU needs to build on that momentum.

I believe the SJU AD has a background in marketing and possibly a major in Mass Communications. Doesn't it make sense to share and market this product on the web so that prospective players can watch games.  One would think watching a game online and seeing the crowd and beauty of Clemens Stadium might peak the interest of potential recruits.
Wouldn't kids from outside of Minnesota be a little more interested in coming to SJU to play football if it was possible for their parents and families to watch games?

Since I have been criticized by others on this board for being overly critical of the purple institution on Cretin Ave let it be clear that I am not giving SJU a free pass on the webcasting issue.  UST is kicking SJU's arse in this area and has a definite advantage with their webcast and old neighbor simulcast.  It's time for the SJU athletic department to wake up and counter that!

Section,

Would you expect anything else than the Wing T offense?  However, I haven't seen the cobbs play this season so who knows if they have switched it up.  Maybe they run a shotgun pistol offense.

According to Fasching, the Cobbers "run the Navy split bone option, and are very good at it"

Whatever the hell that is...?
Fins,
That is what the offense is called, and they are very good at it. Just don't ever ask for it when you're getting a massage, or the cops will show up.

Cobbers then have a bye week before hosting Bethel for some homecoming revenge.

Do they intend to take revenge against their players that ran onto the field before the ball was recovered?  Homecoming seems like an odd time to be going after fellow Cobbers.
It was an emotion fueled, foolish penalty that cost certain victory, yes. But the Cobbs had two chances for defensive stops that still would have spoiled things for Homecoming in Arden Hills. They didn't. Time for a good home victory to settle the score.

The Johnnie game is first up before the Cobbs get their hands on the boys from Arden Hills... Is it just me or after looking at the box scores and play by play for the Johnnies that they are 3 plays away from being 0-3? Everyone knows the missed field goal at UST, but RF and EC are both games that they really could have lost. I didnt realize EC fumbled going into score at the end of the game.... The Cobbers could very well be facing a 0-3 team just as easy as a 3-0? But I suppose that is why you play the game. And good teams win close games.

Thoughts?

No doubt, could easily be 3-0. Reminiscent of 08 and 09 with some of the victories they pulled out. The Eau Claire game shouldn't have been that close, Johnnies had it three times inside the 5 and got like 3 points out of it, but yeah it still came down to needing to stop EC to hold on. The good thing is they obviously now have great experience in close games, should come in handy throughout the year.

Well, if I were a Cobber I would be worried by the 3-0 team that could easily be 0-3.  They know how to win.  The Magic is with them.  Yoda (pre-prequel) says that fear them you must.

Yeah, I'm thinking he meant the Tommies - not the Johnnies dropped from No. 2 to No. 10.

Should the Johnnies be nervous playing the Cobbers? Or is the "magic" all they need. I might be new to the boards, but last I checked "magic" isn't real. There just seems to be a lot of faithful Johnnie fans that think it is.

Both. Look at history, the Johnnies & Cobbers play tight games quite often. The Johnnie fans (for the most part) have a healthy respect for the Cobbers.
BTW- Johnnie Magic is real, just ask some of the other long time Cobbers on this board- they can fill you in  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I just have to pull this picture forward because it is too damn funny. I'd say the "Caruso Crew" as they call themselves put more effort in to making the oversized tools then they ever did towards freshman English.  ;)

Very interesting game. The Cobber's should not even think about Bethel at this point.

It appears my posts from the 2005 Cobber/Johnnie game have vanished, but I'll fess up anyways.  I started to revel in the Johnnies losing when they were down 3 with 25 seconds left and no timeouts at their own 26.  Then Kofoed found Gearman for a 74 yard TD.  I don't know if you'll call it magic, but this wasn't a hail mary to the endzone, he still had to run it in 35 yards after the catch.
