Closed circuit to faunch or SJU Rube:
I have a super busy day tomorrow so could one of you please ask Gary in the live chat why the number changes on road games never seem to get communicated to the announcers? Example- we all knew Battis was out even though he was announced as the starter. Ben Brown was playing center and was wearing #74 instead of #71. Everyone in the stands thought Colin Fisher (listed as #74 in the program) was playing center. Also, Jack Hedlund was wearing #53 instead of his #67 at right tackle. There isn't a #53 listed for the Johnnies in the St. Olaf program.
Perhaps this is a way to keep the octogenarians engaged during the game.....heck it keeps me guessing  :D

If my memory is correct I think the chat forums on SCTimes.com open well before the chat start time. If you find 5 free minutes at the start of the day you could probably get your question in. I haven't decided what theme I'm going with yet but uniform numbers and roster listings isn't near the top. Maybe you could throw it out to Frank today during the Extra Points chat. The only problem is he'd give you some answer full of caveats and we don't need anymore of that.

No caveats given- according to Frank the word he was given on Ben Brown's number change was that the equipment crew FORGOT his jersey at SJU. There was no explanation given as to why Hedlund was wearing #53. Perhaps (and I'm speculating here) his #67 white jersey was washed with the red jerseys and the same equipment crew used a non- color safe detergent  giving a pink hue to it... ???

Big Advertising hits close to home but I'm relatively local so I'm assuming SJU would hope I'd make it to Clemens Stadium vs watching a stream. Speaking of which, I'll be unable to attend the 2003 National Championship reunion this Sat. I hope they still move forward with the ceremony.

Why wouldn't they move forward with the ceremony?  Did I miss something?

Because their top flight scout team receiver from that year (me) can't make it.

I've been a little slow on the uptake lately.   :-\

Bethel         31
Augsburg    28

FINAL

D made some big plays when they needed to. 'Held' Scott to 186 passing and 90 rushing. If you had told me that would be his stat line going in I'd have been very optimistic.

Bethel felt in control from the 2nd quarter on. Pick at the end left the door open for Augsburg. And give credit, Augsburg kept playing hard and made it interesting at the end there. Their clock management was strange. Down 31-14 they just didn't have any urgency to score quickly. Came back to hurt them at the end of the game.
I was there today too. Great atmosphere at Bethel for homecoming. Augsburg took a step forward, even in the loss IMHO. They played the # 5 team in the country and at times were able to move the ball and score. Congrats to Bethel on the win. This Bethel team is very good.

I was in attendance also...very fun game to watch.  I thought BU was going to pull away when they went up 28-14, but there was no quit in Augsburg.  Scott is a great QB...if he continues to progress as a passer, he will put up big numbers by the time he is a senior.  His second INT was a very poor decision, and AUG took some dumb and unnecessary penalties...which might have been the difference in the game.

I'll be interested to see how their matchups with CORD, SJU, and UST go...I think that Augsburg could very will win 1 if not 2 of those.

I believe last season when CORD played at auggie tech they were up 38-7 with 5 min left in 3rd and escaped with a 38-31 win.  Scott had 374 yds passing and 136 yds rushing.  The kid is legit!

Teams will need a stingy defense to contain him and long, time consuming offensive drives to keep him on the sideline.

And teams can't forget that Scott is not a one man wrecking ball. He has an excellent TE as well as a real deal WR & a reliable RB to go along with the freak show Scott puts on display. As far as potential (if everything clicks) Auggie is the most balanced offense in the conference. Disrupting & limiting Scott's big plays is how a team can manage a W- as Bethel showed last week.
CobberNation hit it on the head- you have to play very stingy D and make sure your offense has time consuming & productive drives.

Anybody got any follow-up on Ayrton's hamstring pull - at least that's what it looked like when watching the game? Without him, Augsburg would be a different team I'm thinking.
No info out of Augsburg. I like that.
Seemed like he was faking it - the next play he rolled out  and made a pass and walked off the field somewhat normal...

Somebody dropped a question concerning SJU streaming games (or lack thereof) in the weekly SC Times chat with Frank. His response:

QuoteAh, the weekly live streaming question. Don't know what else I can tell you on that front. St. John's AD Tom Stock said they have made the decision not to do it because they believe it is something that could impact crowd size. Will they change their tune on that in the future? Maybe. It certainly is something becoming more and more common in other places. I think maybe something like a tape delay stream, or streaming available more widely out of state, might be something that happens first if they go down that road.

I've heard it circulated only as rumor, but it was never directly attributed to any individual administrator.

Tom is going to take some well-deserved heat on this one--it is an indefensible position.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to drive to West Lafayette, Indiana to pick up a drum of appropriate size and sound capability to beat this topic to death.

O Shag Hennesy...

You wouldn't be referring to this very funny skit, would you, Texas Ole?

http://youtu.be/Dd7FixvoKBw

Thank you for getting my horrible joke.  I have done that skit in a class I was substitute teaching.  It is a great one.

Ok, I watched this video a dozen times, and find myself in a pi$$ing contest, with a friend who watched it several times, over how to interpret how the last guy himself actually does pronounce his name.

Here's the issue.  After the O-Shak-Hennessey comment, the substitute comes to the last guy, and announces "Ti-MOTH-y" to the guy who responds with "PREE-sent."

My interpretation is that this last guy (who is the first Black to be called) actually pronounces his name as Ti-MOTH-y" just like the substitute teacher, since he also butchers "PREE-sent." Therefore, this last guy does not confront the substitute teacher, since the substitute actually pronounces  Ti-MOTH-y like the black guy pronounces it himself in my opinion.

My friend claims that the Black guy actually pronounces his name Timothy in the standard fashion, but caves into the substitute teacher because he fears his wrath.  He thinks the "PREEE-sent" comment is just a finishing touch.

My question to those of you who are experts with this video is this:

Do you think the last guy in this video actually pronounces his name (A) Timothy in the standard fashion which contradicts the substitute teacher's version,  but wants to avoid any confrontation, or (B) as "Ti-MOTH-y" -- which of course now means the substitute teacher finally got it '"right" with one of his 'brothers' at the very end?

Given the other videos by these guys with their reverse twists at the video end, I think (B) is the intended scenario to end this video.

All comments are appreciated.  :D

Your friend is an idiot.  The way you dissect the joke makes it much funnier.

Johnnie- "B" is the correct answer. I concur with Oz, your friend is an idiot and therefore must be a Tommie  ;)

SJUrude, glad to see you had Tim Miles as your coach. He and I were teammates on the Johnnie cross country and track teams a long time ago. ;) Nice to see the Johnnies won the MIAC golf tournament yesterday.

In the world of Dumb and Dumber and Beavis and Butthead, I agree it's definitely B.  But I'll disagree with my esteemed colleagues.  To me it's entirely possible, and no less funny, if the black kid is the only student smart enough to play along.  So my answer is A.  (Hint - if the black kid pronounced his name Ti-MOTH-y at school, the other students in the class would have figured out where the teacher was coming from; but they didn't.)

Maybe I'll ask my wife.  She taught for 20 years in a high school in Richmond, CA, in a school were whites were such a minority that they formed an Indo-European Club.  She's heard every name pronunciation possible.

Any Tommies have a take on the two backup QBs that filled in for O'Connell this past weekend? I didn't get to watch the game.

17 Gould from St. Thomas Academy(running as the #2 QB) is a smaller version of O'Connell and not as good of a runner or passer. I would say an adequate fill-in but, you would not want to go into the Bethel Game with him. He needs more time to develop both physically and metally. 9 Fenske from Marshall, MN (running #3) is totally different. He is a big tall kid (6-4?) stands in the pocket and delivers a nice ball. He didn't run much and did not appear to be that type of QB. He does give a whole new look though to opposing defenses vs. either of the other two and I believe could really develop into something (although, GC would need to modify the offense or at least add some pakages) Did not see either of the two highly touted freshmen, Dylan Andrew (Naperville, IL) or Jonah Koski (Bend, OR) There you have it.
