I had a J-Term in LA studying the film industry-most excellent.

How about a little bit of beer news  8-)

http://chippewa.com/news/local/leinenkugel-s-pulls-down-two-awards-at-beer-festival/article_6332c4b8-351e-11e3-b992-0019bb2963f4.html

I used to have a Leinie's now and then, but then I found out they were owned by Miller and I haven't purchased any since. If it's free at a wedding or work event I'll drink it, but I'm more of a craft beer / local brew drinker.

Oz and Anthony Hopkins...both big Breaking Bad Fans.

Awesome fan letter Hopkins wrote to Bryan Cranston.

Not unlike the letter I wrote to Cranston after "Malcolm in the Middle."

Ha! Very nice

My J-terms ran the gamut from Greek 2 all the way to snowboarding my senior year. One of the best parts about snowboarding was that it was only on Tuesday and Thursday nights. That was a great month, which made up for the brain cramp I had after Greek my Junior year.

UST will be playing for their playoff life on Saturday.

And the last time they lost to Bethel in this situation they came back the next season and went on a nice little run.  They don't look like a championship caliber team to this point, so I'd be willing to take another "program defining loss" to Bethel.

Why Moynihan at TE?  Just to get him in the game (I have no problem with that, altho he's not TE size, just curious)?  Was Ford hurt?  He's listed as having played, but I can't say I remember him doing much.

Moynihan has started at TE since Homecoming vs. Cobbers when Certeza took over at (SJU verbiage) Halfback.
I have zero inside knowledge but it appeared that when Ford was given his shot he did not produce. Ford does play in double TE sets.
This is one area that the Johnnies really miss the type of impact players they have had over the years. Is one of the Freshmen or Sophomores the next Nate Kirschner ready to break out?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Of the 8 TE's on the roster only 1 is a sophomore and 2 are freshman.  I think I discovered a position in which we need to recruit a few more guys.

SUMMIT!!!!!

my favorite J-term was "So you want to be a basketball referee?" taught by Tom Feeley... first priority was given to varsity players, then JV, then student-manager, then the general population.  My second favorite was "The Art of Winetasting" at St. Kate's. I think we drank MAYBE  the equivalent of 2 glasses of wine in 20 session.... not enough to get even a Katie tipsy

Racquetball senior year with Coach Miller. I felt that I was a relatively fit 22 yr old, and had fancied myself a solid racquetball player. Getting regularly worked over by a Coach Miller who was in his late 40's put me in my place

Going back a few pages regarding the discussion about the SJU turnaround....

Does anyone know who is responsible for the national recruiting? It seems as though more than a few of the promising youngsters are from far and wide.

Robert Zimmerman

My 4 J-Terms at SJU
Economics of Poverty freshman year (Great class, learned a lot)
Jazz Band/Wind Ensemble trip to perform at the Kennedy Center in D.C. sophomore year (Met my wife on that trip, jury is still out)
Shadowed a teacher at Albany for a month junior year, incredibly valuable experience
Biology of Minnesota Senior year (Got to ice fish for class)

The class people fought to register for?  "Walking With Deer" with Brother Willie or "Beginning Piano" with Father Bob.

bennie

I can remember 3 J-terms.
Detective Fiction- we read mysteries watched movies and wrote our own short story mystery. Loved that class!
Women of East Asia- I am still haunted by the pictures of foot binding.
Independent Study with a visiting artist- I would meet with him a couple of times a week for him to critique the art I was working on. I spent a lot of quality time at Sal's and the La that month!

I took racquetball with Coach Aus (a good 15 years older than Jimmy)...same result. He'd command the middle of the court and essentially never move while I was forced to run all over the place until he decided to put me out of my misery with a nasty kill shot. A very humbling experience!

Damien Dumonceaux moved up to the title of Recruiting Coordinator when Gary moved into Head Coach. I know Damien helped Gary a lot over the years and made connections and several trips out west that are now starting to pay dividends. I also know the Freshmen from Arizona who are making contributions this year are the product of Kurt Ramler's connection in The Grand Canyon State.
That being said, the best recruiters will be the kids  and their parents going back to their high schools and relaying positive experiences they have had at SJU. Word of mouth, both positive and negative,is a powerful thing.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
