I'll be attending the Sioux Falls gathering as well. I hope all of the showings area huge successes because I think that's the only thing that could convince the administration to expand the streaming games.

I wonder how that gets done.  I would love to broadcast it at my club in West Michigan.  I know there are some Johnnie and Bennies in the area and my wife can represent Bethel.

Contact Tom Stock or Rob Culligan.  I'd think they'd be happy to have as many sites as possible, as long as they are not any closer to 56321 than Sioux Falls.

Since there are no Gustie backers on here, I'll cut and paste from Gary Fashcing's live chat on Tuesday.

Comment From Guest:
What are the things Gustavus does well?

Gary Fasching:
They run the ball very well. Jeffrey Dubose is their running back, he has over 900 yards rushing, he will carry the ball 30 - 35 times, very explosive back. They run many o fthe same plays we do out of a pistol set. They also do well with their short passing game. Their biggest improvement on their team is their defense, very physical.

For all of you Johnnies fans out there, I just got this in my e-mail from the Alumni Relations folks:

You don't have to be on campus to watch the Johnnies take on Bethel on Saturday, Nov. 16. Alumni, parents, families and friends are invited to watch a live-stream of the game at a location near you.

Man you Johnnies must have learned a lot of patience in college. If it was my school, I'd be hopping freaking mad about this. Not that it would do a lot of good, but the next time they called looking for money I'd tell them exactly what they need to do to get more from me. If they are doing this just to keep football (basketball?) attendance up, I can see the reasoning, but man does it absolutely kill any shot of sending my kid to that school if I live far away. Just about everyone else in D3 has found a way to let parents watch their kids play...

I recommend taking a quick look through the previous several thousand pages of this thread and you'll find plenty of Johnnies (including me) who are furious about the lack of streaming webcasts.

Oh I know. I've read some of the responses when I drift through other boards. But this struck me more as salt in that wound than a big step forward. To clearly have the ability, as this demonstrates, would push me over the line. Just not broadcasting at all would irritate me, but telling me I need to go to someone else's house to watch the game.... I'd reach a whole new level of asking what are you clowns doing?

Hey, but I like that they're promoting getting together to share some fellowship along with the Johnnie football. My only complaint is the list needs to be expanded. Since I'll be deer hunting, I demand a streaming location in Orr, MN, even though that's still a 20 mile drive for me. SJU can choose from either The Dam, The Muni or The Legion, doesn't matter much to me. Or I'd happily travel up to Ash-Ka-Nam or Rocky Ledge if they wanna have it up on the lake.

Yep. I remember when this was state of the art -- it was in 1999 when I watched the Hope-Calvin basketball game this way and a year or so later when I watched the Monon Bell game.

These broadcasts for alumni definitely aren't new.

I had the chance to organize one for NYC for the game but begged out, owing to my complete lack of organizational skills but also work schedule means I won't be able to watch it.

SagatagSam

I wonder if there is a revenue angle to this limited streaming webcast?

"Pay $______.___ to be able to get the right to broadcast the game in your home/establishment."

I'd be willing to bet there is at least some requested payment if you are a bar owner and one could assume you'd be making revenue from some food/drink sales--maybe not for a homeowner.

But, from what I've seen this is the largest number of sites for viewing parties. The most I can remember from the past is two.

East Coast ones were organized in the past as well, but they have expanded.

I have a few relatives that are DePauw alums.  I can remember hearing stories and even being invited to go listen to the Monon Bell game on the telephone in Dallas.

I tend to agree w/ you.  From my perspective we've taken the "Johnnie-nice" approach with this issue.  With the improvements of the team this year I think it's time for SJU alums to make a bit more noise on this issues.  Letters and emails to Tom Stock, the SJU Record, SCTimes....as well as getting some of the more influential alums (those w/ deeper pockets than most of us) to speak up on this issue.
