I don't remember running up the score in that game -but i do remember SJU going for two later in the game because their kicker had been injured the year before kicking with a big lead. That was a great game and fun time afterwards with John and the SJU crowd.

Yeah I don't really expect that but who knows. I remember in 04 SJU thought it was out of it with two losses but a crazy last week probably would have gotten them in...except St. Olaf beat the Johnnies.

Good point.

Wasn't there some upset people in 1993 when SJU ran it up in Gagliardi's 300th victory?
Yep. And I'm guessing Haugen, having played for BU when Johnson was just starting to get them respectable, probably remembers what it was like to stand on the sideline with Coach J on the wrong end of some of those games.

Probably just an emotional response. We've all been in those situations. Hopefully the heat will die down and things can be smoothed over.

The WIAC might still not end up with a 1-loss runner up.  LaCrosse has a shot to knock Platteville down to 2 losses next week.  Platteville then beats Oshkosh but it might not a big enough win for Platteville to rise above the MIAC runner up.

Certainly possible. But I don't think it's probably that all of the things we've just laid out break this way. Then again, there have been several years when chaos has reigned supreme in weeks 9 and 10.

All that to say, Bethel, UST, Concordia and SJU should all be playing like they need every win. You never know how it will break...

OldAuggie

Augsburg-UST game was a good one. No fun losing that one but the future looks bright. Scott definitely had his legs back and looked good running the ball when he needed too. He is turning in to a more seasoned passer each game and I think next year will be his coming out party-same for the Auggies. Both teams looked to be evenly matched on the field for most of the game. For UST Waldvogel is dangerous at RB or whenever he has the ball and they have a real punter, proof was his 63yd kick.

And if you bought that alibi, there's some lovely swamp land in south Florida that I'm sure you could easily be sold. ;)  If you're really that worried about getting your kicker hurt, then you'd be going for two after every TD.

Is it Johnnie week yet?...how about now?

The Johnnie Magic ran out. That and not being able to complete a pass down field sealed their fate today. The play calling seemed to lack creativity today. Beating Bethel would be nothing more than pride because a  2 loss second place team is not going to be invited to the play-offs. If the Cobbers beat the Tommies, they are in regardless of what happens in the SJU-Bethel game as they would be a 1 loss team.I guess the Gusties could win in Moorhead on the last game if the year....stranger things have happened.

Good job by the Gusties in a tough fought game.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Win or lose, every week is Johnnie week! 8-)

Congratulations to the Gusties! It was a well played game and your D did a great job!

Beautiful day to take in a game at Hollingsworth Field.  The outcome sucked, but it was an interesting game to watch.  The Gustie D was legit.  SJU ran the ball pretty well against them, but they really took the passing game away.  Aspects of the Johnnie's game looked great, but they never put it all together, and their utter lack of production in the red zone has been a thorn in their sides all year.  Hendricks had to be thrilled at the outcome; transfer and then beat your former team.

The Johnnie Magic ran out.

When the GAC kicker (who I was really impressed with) missed the FG at the end of regulation, I thought to myself, Holy crap.  Johnnie Magic is for real.  Then, he put through the FG in OT despite it being partially blocked, and I knew the magic was over.

What a great day for a football game today. Since it was nice out, decided to make the trip to St. Peter to see the GAC-SJU game figuring it would be the best MIAC game of the week and I wasn't disappointed. It was a hard fought game by both teams.

I was afraid SJU was going to have an easy day as they started out with an early 10-0 lead and totally shut down GAC's running game in the first half. But the GAC defense responded and it was 10-7 at the half. SJU got a quick turnover to start the 2nd half and went up 17-7 but the GAC offense got things working in the 2nd half to tie it at 17. At the end of the game, GAC had a chance to win it with a field goal but missed a 32 yard attempt. It seemed to take forever to attempt the field goal as first GAC called a timeout with 3 seconds left, then SJU called 2 timeouts in a row after that. Don't know if that had any affect on the kicker, but he did miss it. In the first ot, GAC had the ball first and ended up attempting a field goal. The kick was partially blocked and it barely made it over the cross bar. SJU responded with their own field goal to send it the second ot. This time SJU had the ball first and attempted a 37 yard field goal. Didn't look like the kicker hit it very well and it came up short. That set the stage for the GAC kicker to redeem himself and he came through with a 37 yard field goal to win it.

I got a chuckle out of one of SJU's plays. The wideouts (except Bungum) left the huddle early and went to the line of scrimmage. Then rest of the team waited a bit and then broke the huddle. Bungum, the diminutive wide receiver, was trying to hide behind the lineman as they walked to the line of scrimmage, and then crouched down behind the guard while the qb was in the shotgun formation. It was kind of amusing seeing Bungum trying not to be noticed and then reach in from behind the guard to take the snap and then run around left end. It did gain about 7 yards, but don't think it really caught CAG off guard too much.

Congrats to the Gusties on a well deserved win although it does put a damper on the season finale between Bethel and SJU. I was thinking it was going to be for the MIAC title but Bethel is now in the driver's seat as they should beat St. Olaf next week before the finale with SJU.

I do have 1 question about a rule - hope someone knows the answer. I know in the NFL that if a defenseman is in the neutral zone before an offensive lineman moves, then it is a penalty on the defense. Is the rule different in college? In the first ot, GAC was attempting their field goal and it sure looked like SJU jumped first and was in the neutral zone before any GAC linemen moved but they called a false start on GAC. It would have been huge at the time since it would have given GAC a 1st down and a chance for a td instead of settling for a field goal.

Glad you mentioned that.  I didn't have a great vantage point, but that's what I thought happened.  Creative!

St. Olaf beats Bethel next week. Johnnies beat Bethel in final week. Tommies beat Cobbers.

Four-team tie at the top of the conference.

Yes? Okay, no. No?

Tommies, Cobbers and Johnnies all finish 8-2. Johnnies make playoffs as committee takes the two-loss team that has a victory over Bethel.

That said, I think it's a stretch to make it in with 2 losses this year. They'd also be up against the UWO/UWP loser. That team will have losses to an undefeated (presumably) Whitewater and one loss WIAC runner up. I'm thinking all three MIAC two loss teams are below the WIAC two loss team in this scenario.

The WIAC might still not end up with a 1-loss runner up.  LaCrosse has a shot to knock Platteville down to 2 losses next week.  Platteville then beats Oshkosh but it might not a big enough win for Platteville to rise above the MIAC runner up.

With the disparity in the two offenses, this would be the shock of the year in the WIAC. Stranger things have happened, but not many.  ;)

Not likely....SJU might get blown out by BU in two weeks.  As exciting ad the season has been this SJU team is fortunate to only have 2 losses...probably should have 4.
