Well, it seems that UST has come to terms with the fact that they may not qualify for the playoffs...they've updated it to be an away game, with the qualifier of "If Qualify".

Win number 409 against Bethel, 10 years ago on Friday.  I remember it like yesterday.  Three things that stuck:

1.  Scott Kirchoff being taken off the field in an ambulance
2.  Johnnies won
3.  Damn, it was cold

Notice 5 defenders converging on Blake Elliott.  He was the playmaker that took St. Johns from a "good" team to a national champion team.

I'll be dusting off the DVD of this game over the weekend.

Go Johnnies!

We beat them head to head.  I suspect if they defeat Con this week, ratings will change.

3.  Damn, it was cold

Were you at the SJU/Coe game in 2002?  That day made the 2003 SJU/Bethel game seem balmy.  I still refused to wear long sleeves.  ;D

I was at both of those games. Not the coldest I've been to.

I missed that one.

I was at the game against UW Stout in 2000.  I think that is the coldest Johnnie game for me.

Might not have been the coldest, put probably the worst weather game I saw at SJU was against Buena Vista in the 2nd round of the playoffs in 1976.  Snowed a foot.  Maybe more.  Johnnies won 61-0.  Some Iowa writer included a line about having seen a polar bear in the woods.

Speaking of UST v. Concordia. Here's a little dream scenario for Bethel:

UST gets in the regional rankings this week, then loses to the Cobbers. This makes room the following week for SJU to slide into the RR in place of UST. Bethel then defeats SJU in the final week of the season. SJU drops out in the final unseen RR and Wartburg (who has won out and secured the IIAC A bid) jumps in to take the Johnnie's spot.

Wishful thinking...probably. A WHOLE lotta what-if's. But it would give Bethel a 4-0 record against RRO (Concordia, UST, SJU & Wartburg) given the once ranked always ranked criteria. If this were to happen, it'd be very hard for an unbeaten Bethel with a strong SOS not to get the #1 slot in the West. What really makes Bethel's case so strong is when you consider all the different colored uniforms they've beaten.  ;D I think this is in the 3rd tier of criteria for Regional Rankings  8-)

A guy can dream can't he  :)

So we Bethel supporters just became St. Thomas fans this week trying to get the Tommies into the Regional Rankings?  ::)

It didn't seem that cold on the field...but then, it usually doesn't.

PLU in '00 & Central in '07 seemed way colder. The latter especially because I didn't wear waterproof footwear and had soaking wet feet to go along with the freezing rain hitting my face  :P

Best part was apparently the Central radio guy making comments about our guys warming up in jackets, insinuating the cold was going to affect us more than Central. Later in the game he 'retracted' his statement...something along the lines of 'I guess the cold hasn't been real detrimental to Bethel after all'  ;D

I still think a 2 loss MIAC runner up has a shot, so the Johnnies are also Tommie fans.   an extra regionally ranked win never hurt anybody.
