I guess Bethel should be rated #2 in the D3Football top 25 according to the recent podcast. According to Pat and Keith.

I didn't get that take. I think they were just looking at the criteria and discussing how it might play out in the RR. I don't think either would or are putting Bethel in the top 3 of the Top 25.

Bluenote has a curious way of taking things as a slight. Glad you listened, Bluenote, but I think you missed the point.

No, I think blue note had it dead right: Linfield's is small and underserving and the color purple is for wusses.

Them is fighting words Oz!!!!!

I think it's their belief (and of Ch. 45) that attendance and TV viewership is better after Thanksgiving...personally   don't buy that.

I talked to a friend in the high school coaching ranks last night, and that was his understanding, as well.  With Thanksgiving being later than usual this year, things got pushed back to coincide with the holiday.

Personally, if I have no vested interest in the games, I still have them on on the day after Thanksgiving.  If they were not that day, I probably wouldn't have them on.  I haven't really even watched much of the Saturday games the past few years.  There's just something about that Friday and the Prep Bowl.

Go Sabres!!! (as in Sartell Football--no hockey talk from this guy!!!@)

Throwing my two pennies into the fray:

With the Regional Rankings now out and looking at the hypothetical possibilities for who gets put in the pool B and Pool C teams for possible selections, the only sure thing is that if Bethel wins out they get the automatic qualifier as MIAC champs.

If Concordia wins out, they are almost a shoe-in for a pool C selection.

The rest of the MIAC sits out this year, as both the Tommies and the Johnnies have 3 losses.

Only Bethel can "afford to lose" and still stand a good chance at getting into the playoffs. Two things concern me about that potential loss. The first is that even though they would have the same record as Concordia, and have beaten them during the year I seem to recall that the MIAC has a tie-breaker rule saying the team that has been out of the playoffs the longest would win the conference automatic qualifier. Does anyone know for certain if this is the case? Secondly, I believe I also read somewhere that the NCAA selection committee can take into account how a team is trending at the end of the season in determining between two fairly equal teams. As Bethel's defeat would be in the last game of the season I see that as a downward trend and hurts their pool C standings. Again, did I read too much into the NCAA criteria or mistakenly interpret it incorrectly?

Lastly, If Concordia hangs with the Tommies and loses a close game, I think they still are in the hunt for a play off spot. However, it also lifts the Tommies into the discussion and the whole trending discussion comes into play as the committee chooses between St. Thomas and the Cobbers. The Cobbers really have to win the game in St. Paul this week - I think, even more than Bethel has to beat St. John's next weekend.

Thoughts?

PS. And with the Johnnies already regionally ranked, if Concordia loses and the Johnnies beat Bethel and there are now 3 MIAC teams setting at 8 and 2, I see the pecking order as Concordia, St. John's and lastly St. Thomas as it sits now. But this week's regional rankings would certainly change with a Tommie victory, so it could still be a wild ending in the MIAC.

Glad someone brought up this scenario...I actually see it differently.  If the Cobbers lose to the Tommies this week and the Johnnies pull off the upset against BU I think SJU has the playoff edge.  Even w/ three teams tied at 8-2 the Jays would be the only one that beat the conference champ (and on the last day of the regular season).  Even looking through w/ my red colored glasses I really don't think the Johnnies will do that.  Also I agree that the MIAC teams should be ranked about where they are right now.

Come to think of it, yes, we laid the smackdown on Freddie Jackson and the rest of the Kohawks.  ;D

I don't remember much of the game except that it was really cold, despite what Pat says.

Fair enough. I mean, I remember it being cold, just not the coldest game I was ever at. At least it was dry.

My thoughts are if SJU loses to BU, it makes UST loss to them seem worse especially at home (at least it seems worse to me) than CC losing to UST on the road and having 2 losses.  SJU would move out of ROR and UST would most likely move in, giving CC 2 losses to ROR teams.

However, if CC beats UST this weekend their playoff hopes are gone and Caurso leaves for greener pastures to Alabama after Nick Saban bolts for $6.5 million/yr to coach of U or Texas.

You heard it hear first!

We played Coe in the playoffs in 2005.  Their running back Ashton Northern was averaging over 100yds/game and was certain he could against our D.  He got 43 yds on 16 carries or so.  The total rushing for their team was 27 net yds.  CC won the game 27-14 (later named the mud bowl).

I always enjoy a smackdown on the Kohawks!  Haha.  ;D

Funny about those Iowa teams. Coldest game I remember watching was Concordia vs Central in 1988. 7 degrees at kickoff with a 10 mph breeze for a balmy -12 wind chill.

Of course, "The Jake" doesn't do any favors with it's E-W layout:  just lets the wind go right through.
