After all of the comments regarding the live chats on the SCTimes, I read through this morning's with Fasching.  He deserves Sainthood for making it through those every week....some of the questions and comments...wow.   ???

Ridiculous, embarrassing.  What's wrong with people?

It's been a good year, solid year, they haven't beaten anyone to speak of other than the Tommies, but they've done better than the last couple years.  Keep the faith!!
It seems that SJU Football is severely under the microscope as being a staple for the SC Times over the years. There has been a resurgence of football at SCSU over the years, but for many years the SC Times (rightly so) made the Johnnies the spotlight of their autumn sports section.
That being said, there are a LOT of unrealistic fans in the area. Times change and the MIAC has become a very competitive conference over the past 5 years  and some fans can't seem to understand that the Johnnies can no longer slide through the MIAC regular season and only start to get challenging games once they begin post season contests.

I look at this as the "Uncle Ricco" syndrome. "We would have won state if coach would have only put me in". Uncle Ricco was delusional and so are many of the Johnnie fans, many of which have never played a down of football,at any level....

The proof will be in the pudding. Gary took over a 5-5 program. They didn't need to gut the program and start from scratch, they needed to make some tweeks. They needed to get some speed on defense. They needed to learn how to win close games. They needed some confidence. I'd say it's been a successful year,no matter what happens against Bethel on Saturday. I'd like a Johnnie victory, but if I was given a scenario last January after Gary took over, that the Johnnies would be 7-3 and beat the Tommies this year, I would have taken that scenario in a heartbeat and I think many of the Johnnie posters here would have taken it too.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I enjoyed Gary's chats at the beginning of the season...now they've become an absolute waste of time.  A couple of weeks ago someone asked him how long how much longer he would do the chats.  His response was something along the line of..."As long as they benefit the program."
Well it seems that we've come to the end of that road.  Truth is I don't see how the chats ever were a benefit to the program.

I'm with you on that one, 105.
The loss to Gustavus was a letdown, but I'm very optimistic for the future with guys like Certeza, Sura, Bungum, Garrett Ackerman, Carter Hanson, and the rest of the up-and-coming underclassmen.

I'm excited to see what Fasching & Co. can do with a full off-season to recruit.

I went down to Phoenix this weekend for the NASCAR races at Phoenix International Raceway.
I flew out of Omaha and noticed our resident Johnnie jurist has made quite the impact in Nebraska--they've even named a street after him on the south side of TD Ameritrade Park (home of the College World Series). ;)

@ Duff- you are lucky you missed the Live Chat with Frank today. I have to applaud Frank for not absolutely dropping the F-bomb on some of these idiots. After the 3rd- "tar & feather Ramler & run him out of town" comment Frank politely said, "we've covered this territory before....about two questions ago..."

One guy threatened not to renew his season tickets after 26 years, if Ramler returned as OC
Damn, some people are idiots.

First-I agree with you Section 105 that with all of the uproar over Gary v Grant, many of us would take 7-3---easy.
Second-For the record, while I wish like hell SJU will beat Bethel, but I don't think that will happen.
Third-I don't think you can really do a comparative score thing with this SJU team--they seem to play to their level (For example, CST beat UWEC 56-7; SJU beat UWEC 17-14; almost lost that game, and yet, and SJU beats CST on the road...); plus one cannot forget the unimpressive W's vs Carlton and Hamline, and the loss v GAC, although I think GAC is a very solid team
Fourth-with reference to the quote above-I do think SJU needs to be way more creative with the offense--for example:
1.  Run the twins rt/split left 52
2.  Jimmy G told me at the beginning of the season this is the best OLine in like 5 years-if thats the case, would it hurt SJU to get behind the center on 3rd/4th & 1 and run the damn ball (QB sneak or something?)  It cleatly has hurt them to be in the pistol in these situations (ALA GAC game-Leading 17-10; 4th & 1 on GAC 39 late in 3rd and gain of 0-GAC goes down then and converts a TD to tie game) Arrgh  >:(
3.  Run a jet sweep every so often
4.  Maybe have a pitch option instead of a zone read with only the QB run option out of it
5.  Incorporate the TE into the offense
6.  Run a 52 or 152 for God's sake!!!!  ;)

What offense did CC use when Ramler coached there?  If it wasn't the pistol, I wonder what made him think to do it now at SJU.

And does anyone know if they practice non-pistol sets?  Do they ever line up none pistol in a game?  I can't remember at this point.

CC did run a pistol set.

Rumor has it they have just recently put in a non-pistol set for short yardage. I didn't see it vs. Hamline, but hey maybe this week vs. Bethel.

@SJU60TX- I concur. The TE game (or lack there of) has been a glaring flaw..... They had some plays at River Fall & the ball was dropped on big plays, then made the switch in personnel, since then not many plays going to TE even when we in the stands can see openings. There was a TE open in end zone in the OT at GAC :-[

SagatagSam, I have a picture of TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha with the street sign that has my name on it in my chambers. A friend of mine gave it to me a few years ago. He attends the College World Series every year. Hope you enjoyed the NASCAR experience. That is something I want to do, along with making the trip to Las Vegas for the KQRS morning show that will be broadcast from there tomorrow and Friday.

Bethel fans who will be making the trip to Collegeville on Saturday are more than welcome to join us for the Stiftungsfestivities tailgate party located in the parking lot above the scoreboard end of the field. The party usually gets going around 10:00 a.m. and we start the grilling at 11:00 a.m. Bring a culinary delight along if you want to.

Thanx for the invite to the tailgate - though I won't be making the trek this year - will be listening while I rake.

Thanks for the invite and I probably would have taken you up on the offer as I was planning on going but we had a death in the family and the funeral is on Saturday. Guess I will have to check the stream once in a while - oh wait - that's right, SJU doesn't stream their games on the internet.  ???

What happens if a team was found using players that were ineligible on its football team?  Do they forfeit all wins for the season or just the games certain players played in?

Does the 2nd place team in that conference get the auto bid into the playoffs?

Plus, when was the last time coach Meidt was brought up on this board and where has his football career gone?  Last I thought he was linebacker coach for the bears around 5-6 years ago.

Fellas,

Sorry I've been a little AWOL lately, trying to ride two bicycles with one ass is a little tricky on the professional tip.

UST is on the playoff ventilator, Bethel/SJU this weekend for home-field until Linfield or UWW for the Royals, things are interesting.

Do you have some insider info that we should be expecting to come to light?

If I remember correctly, he was the QB coach for the Washington R-words, but lost his job when Shanahan took over, and has sinced moved on to being some regional vp type at walmart.

Indeed, a quick google search revealed the article that I believe was originally posted by someone here.

I'm not a rules expert, but I would believe the game/games that the player in question participated in would be forfeited.
