So http://www.prep45.com has decided to charge $4.95 per day to watch the high school football semifinals.  John Millea from the high school league claims that prep.45 made the decision and that the MSHSL was not involved.  Sounds like a cop out to me.

Correction...I just checked the website and the games appear to be on free of charge.  MSHSL and prep45.com (owned buy Hubbard Broadcasting I believe) must have take a ton of heat this morning.

Well, the games are paid for either with tax dollars or charges.  Back when the games were on TV they would have picked up some revenue then.  I reckon five bucks is a fair price for a state tournament.

Why Bethel University should be ranked #1 in the country for seeding at the end of the year

I assume you meant #1 in the West region, not country.

No, I meant country. It just so happens that the number two team happens to be in the same region.

Addendum: If BU and UWW stay 1 and 2, we do really need to hope that they are on opposite sides of the bracket.

Boy, this became a Bethel smokefest in a hurry.  Or would you prefer Bethel dancefest?

Naw, a hoedown.

Though a long long time ago I had been known to enjoy a Swisher Sweet on occasion.

Mary Hardin-Baylor and Mount have relatively poor SOS.  They can still give Mount an effective one seed based upon last year's playoff performance but they certainly don't have to as the other criteria favors Bethel or Whitewater.

Not that past NCAA selection committees have much (if any) bearing on this year, but don't read too much into Mount's low SOS numbers.   Playing in a 10 team conference eliminates their ability to move the needle much from 500.   If anything, their SOS and results against RRO is better this season than normal because their opener with Franklin likely produces a win against a RRO that is also a Pool A qualifier.

Of course assuming that they beat John Carroll this weekend, which isn't a guarantee.

The finals are still televised and they have a number sponsors that can help foot the bill.  The semis have been available online for free the last few years.  I think the issue w/ charging was that there was no word of it until last night or this morning.  I had checked the prep.45 website a week or so ago and didn't see anything.  I follow high school football fairly close and the high school league didn't have any info about it until last night.  Really bad PR from my perspective.

Last I heard he was still at Wal-Mart.  There was a rumor he was up for the St. Olaf job when OJ left.  I don't think he was a real candidate with the way he left St. Olaf.  I think he has to work at Wal-Mart for a few more years due to his contract with them. My guess is he will resurface shortly with a D1 or NFL team.  He's got the references now to be a candidate for one of those positions.  My preference would be to purge most of what Meidt has left at St. Olaf.  Several coaches at St. Olaf have needed to be shown the door from the football program for some time.  It may be true about a few other sports.  St. Olaf is a learning community, and I am not sure they bring a lot to the community on any level.

DI, maybe. NFL, not a chance. His references aren't that good, they all go back to horrible Washington Redskins teams. Jim Zorn, his in with the Redskins and NFL, doesn't even have an NFL job right now. Add to that, Meidt has been out of coaching for way too long to get back into the NFL. And I'm not sure he wants to. If that was his ultimate goal, he'd have sought another coaching gig after Washington. He had to know that by going the Walmart route he was in essence killing his future NFL coaching opportunities.

The other piece being, he's approaching the new season career-wise  as an opportunity to make money and secure his financial future. I don't think he's interested in the level of pay he'd get at a DIII school or that he'd want to go back to Olaf.

Now, if Caruso actually left UST (which I'm not predicting) would Meidt be enticed by that situation? Possibly. He'd get payed better than he did at Olaf and he'd have better resources at his disposal. Still a long time out of coaching, and I don't know if UST would want him.

I have it on very good authority the UND job will  be open this Sunday. Caruso would be an excellent candidate considering he has OC'd at USD, coached at NDSU, has head coaching experience in an area UND recruits, learned his defense from UND and has hired former UND standouts Digger Anderson and Brett Holinka.

However, UND alums are looking for a sexy name with UND connections like Brooks Bollinger (from Grand Forks dad was OC for UND) (coaches at Pitt) or Tim Tibesar (All-American linebacker for UND, coaches for Chicago Bears)

But, if Caruso were to get that job I would hope UST would make a strong play on keeping Kuchinski on as head coach. Just speculation, based on no authority whatsoever

Bench, do you have any idea what the UND job would pay vs. what Caruso is making at UST? Would it make sense to uproot his young family to be your neighbor.....?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Lower taxes... booming economy...  Plenty of flat, wide-open spaces to play football and baseball...

What's not to like?

Aaaaaand Johnnie fans are back to hoping that Caruso goes elsewhere.  Topics on this board truly are cyclical in nature.   ;)

Not true. We're not hoping he goes elsewhere. If he does them how will we have the satisfaction of beating him again next year?

But if he did go then there wouldn't be enough fromage, dried apricots and walnuts to compliment all the purple whine coming from Summit Avenue.  And that would be a fun party, for certain.

Texas Ole

For some reason I remembered Meidt sticking around for one extra year.  Can I blame it on old timers?  It probably shows how much I care about the NFL which is absolutely 0.  College and high school football all the way for me.

Living in Texas do I have any hope of getting a MIAC team to play in a playoff game down here?  I know it has happened in the past, but I am guessing it is not likely.
