A few of you Royals are overly sensitive about the Royal's field.  I just don't like Royal "Stadium"--deal with it.  Are there worse in the MIAC?  Sure, but not by much.

So I guess my original comment was pretty much spot on - that you have too many bad memories there - not so much that it is a terrible place to watch a football game.  :)

You keep coming back to this.  Here are the facts:

1999 @ Bethel, SJU lost 20-24.  I was a non-traveling freshman, so while it was disappointing, I wouldn't say I have "bad memories".
2000 @ Bethel, SJU lost 36-43.  I traveled but didn't play.  So, yeah, that one was a bad memory.
2001 @ SJU, SJU won 34-0.  I started, and it was one of my favorite games from college.
2002 @ the Metrodome, SJU won 31-26.  I started.  It was ugly, but a win for the good guys.

So, I guess I wouldn't say that I have "too many bad memories" at Royal Stadium.  ::)

Well perkins stadium is one of the largest in D3 and I know you don't like that one either  ;)

I haven't been to The Perk since '04 or '05, but I don't recall ever expressing any dislike for it.  As a matter of fact, I believe that I dubbed the restroom facilities as "best in the nation".

The thing I disliked about The Perk was being berated by drunk, obnoxious cheeseheads after the loss--and I'm not talking about college students.  Having crass insults hurled at you by a group of wasted 50-somethings leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.  ;D

It must have been '05 Duff. Before that year, UWW was but a whisper on the D-III scene. How they got so good so fast, is still a mystery. That was my first trip there, and they did not treat us kindly, either on the field or off.

It all started in '02 when they scheduled their first game at MUC and their second at SJU.  They got drubbed in both, but before you knew it, they were kicking arse and taking names.  :o

Did any of the SJU Faithful read Frank's season wrap up or follow the Live Chat with Gary yesterday?

Gary does not sugar-coat anything. Noting there are areas to be addressed & they will be addressed. I like the approach!

Feel free to add your comments (except Tommies) ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

If that happened, that's pretty disappointing. I think most fans from other teams have better experiences than that at the Perk (at least I hope so!). The good news is that maybe most of those people are in their 60's now and have slowed down a bit!  ;)

One thing I'll say about the lower turnout at the SJU - Bethel game last Saturday was my brother reported the class of the SJU fans. Multiple people approached them on their way out to express congrats and wish us luck in the playoffs.

I think it says two things.
1. SJU has some classy fans
2. On a dumpy day weather wise, after a good number left early, I think we can expect mostly die hard fans and parents were probably left at that point. Which really goes to my opinion that while every fan base has their idiots, most of the really loyal, non-bandwagon group are good people.

QuoteI won't know what to do with myself on Saturday!!

It's time you got off your duff   :)  and drove to McMinnville to watch a real DIII playoff game again.

Just teasing you a little bit Duffman - no ill feelings intended. My comment about 'bad memories' wasn't directed at just your playing years, but more of a reference to recent years where BU has beaten SJU 7 out of the last 8 meetings.

Proof from Gary's live chat that SJU has clASSy fans:

Will Jim Gagliardi be spending his time holding up play cards for the scout team offense again next year in practice or will you allow him to work with Kurt and the starting offense? I think you would agree that the starting offense could have used more of his experience this season. Hamline was the only team that we did better on offense in the MIAC this year!

10:55
Gary Fasching: We will look at every aspect of our football program. Jim was a part of our offensive game plan each week. We met as an offensive staff every day and went over the previous days practice, and what we wanted to accomplish in practice that day. Jim was also involved in putting the game plan together for each of our games, he was not just holding up flash cards.

The Jim Gagliardi question is fair. He was such an intricate part of so many years of tremendous success at SJU with you Gary... How do you justify his demotion?

10:58
Gary Fasching: I will not talk about how I put my staff together, Jim is still a very big part of our staff and will continue to be. We used his expertise in a lot of different ways this year and he will be a vital part of our success going forward. I can guarantee you that he helped us out greatly this year and we will continue to use all of our coaches in the best possible way.

Amazing what a year does. This time last year Jim G was Johnny Public Enemy #1 and on the road to being tarred and feathered ...
