Amazing what a year does. This time last year Jim G was Johnny Public Enemy #1 and on the road to being tarred and feathered...

Maybe "Guest" is Jim???  :o

...but more of a reference to recent years where BU has beaten SJU 7 out of the last 8 meetings.

Thankfully, I can usually let those losses roll off of my back!

That would add a WHOLE new level of intrigue to these chats! Forget disgruntled parents, we've got mad coaches/kids!  :o something tells me this isn't the case though. I think Jim has handled the entire thing admirably.

@ the d3 crew...you guys are killing me! When do the playoff capsules come out?? I mean, it's not like you have to prepare them for 32 teams or anything  :)

1. SJU has some classy fans

Boy, we've got you fooled!  :P

Proof from Gary's live chat that SJU has clASSy fans:

Will Jim Gagliardi be spending his time holding up play cards for the scout team offense again next year in practice or will you allow him to work with Kurt and the starting offense? I think you would agree that the starting offense could have used more of his experience this season. Hamline was the only team that we did better on offense in the MIAC this year!

10:55
Gary Fasching: We will look at every aspect of our football program. Jim was a part of our offensive game plan each week. We met as an offensive staff every day and went over the previous days practice, and what we wanted to accomplish in practice that day. Jim was also involved in putting the game plan together for each of our games, he was not just holding up flash cards.

The Jim Gagliardi question is fair. He was such an intricate part of so many years of tremendous success at SJU with you Gary... How do you justify his demotion?

10:58
Gary Fasching: I will not talk about how I put my staff together, Jim is still a very big part of our staff and will continue to be. We used his expertise in a lot of different ways this year and he will be a vital part of our success going forward. I can guarantee you that he helped us out greatly this year and we will continue to use all of our coaches in the best possible way.

Oh, man, would I love to give 'Guest' a bit of scrutiny on his decision making.  And in a public forum looking him right in the eye. We'll see how hard he is then.

I go back to the question on moderating, however.  Why did those questions get published?  Those questions were insulting not just to Gary but to Jim as well.  Jim is contributing to the teams success and all that effort has been reduced to flash card holder. Great support shown of your hero there, Guest.  And great job, moderator, on publishing a question that can bring no light to any matter, but can only sow discontent and ill feelings.

Failings here by both the SCTimes and the fans.

This is becoming like beating the dead horse of video on gamedays but still...

I don't see one redeeming thing about Fasching doing these chats. Not a single thing.

This question also made me chuckle:

Please explain how you teach tackling and get the kids to block like they would during a game if you don't allow full contact in practice.
10:46

Gary Fasching: We are pretty live on the line in practice, so blocking is being taught everyday. The only thing we do not do is cut block in practice. We feel that we work really hard in this area. Jim Mader has our offensive linemen working on blocking technique every day. We also do form tackiling drills in practice, again not full tackling, but we think we cover the basics. Most times in tackling, it is not the actual tackle, it is getting into position to make that tackle, taking correct angles etc.

Yeah, I know it worked for 60 years for Gagliardi and the trend in all levels of football is headed toward this in light of player safety concerns, but what's the deal, coach?

OK, I'll bite.  Here is my field/stadium ranking:

(1) SJU: Not even close.  Place is a jewel and ranks high not only in the conference or D3, but all of college football.
(2) Gustavus: Real nice place.  One of the first of its kind of that "model" of stadium.  Has been copied a bunch since.
(3) Concordia: Awesome spot.  Just "feels" like college football.  Probably because it reminds me of games at SDSU for Hobo Day when I was a kid.
(4) UST: Bias, sure.  But the upgrades have made it a really cool and pretty unique field.  Can't dispute that the "castle" feel is unmatched in the conference. My buddies and I always thought it'd be awesome "when we go D1"  ::) if UST would build the stadium side up, over Cretin, and have "arches" letting the traffic through.  Seriously how cool would that be.
(5) St. Olaf: Great setting.
(6 - Tie): Augsburg, Hamline, Mac (I know they aren't really in the conference): These stadiums all match their college/university.  At Augsburg, you really feel like you are in an urban environment where you might get shot . . . and you are!; at Hamline, you feel like you are at pretty decent but really small facilities, just like the school; at Mac you feel like you are in the middle of a hippie commune where a frolf game or drum circle could break out at any time . . . and you are!  Just the sense of place that these stadiums have put them above the bottom.
(9) Bethel: Just a below average high school field.  Doesn't do anything for me.
(10) Carleton: A sad monument to Carleton's bygone B1G asperations. Floods.

Let's hope "Guest" takes a shower, puts on some pants, and brushes his teeth before he leaves his mother's basement to come to the public forum to meet Oz.

I don't understand all the criticism of Coach Fasching.  SJU had a pretty good year all things considered.  I think if you told most people that SJU would finish 7-3 with a win over St. Thomas last fall they would have been pretty happy.

It is a little disappointing to only see one MIAC team in the playoffs this year, but I think it is a byproduct of having such a deep league this year.

I don't think the floods at Carleton are a huge deal.  It takes a pretty good size one to flood the stadium.  They pose an inconvenience, but having a stadium in that location makes sense.  Speaking of B1G aspirations I read an interesting article about the U of Chicago.  The argument was posed as to whether or not the Maroons should look at return to Big Ten.  Lots of thoughts both ways.

That is going to start an entirely new debate  :-\

Which is acceptable, hand holding with your coach or with other players...... ???
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

MadRedFan

I can't claim attendance at near as many DIII stadiums as most of you, but have attended many games in Collegeville.  I would give them just a few points off my "game day experience score" for those endless "Go Fondle the Rhino-Deck" announcements!!!

Great place overall, especially when the leaves are turning, but turn off the commercials!!  :D

world of difference between the players and the coach, imo. TONS of teams have their captains hold hands as the walk out to midfield. The irony of the poster is that it appears to be UST in the background as the opposing team  :o

What?!?  And I was steeling myself to cheer for BU this weekend. Now I find I'm cheering for Tommies-lite?  Ain't gonna happen.

I am sitting here at a complete loss.  I can't believe this, but I think Royals may suck now, too.  This is a genuine disgrace.

There is one sure way to make sure I never purchase a streamed Johnnie home game if it ever happens: have the players walking around holding hands.
