Pretty cool banner around campus today.  Go Royals!

OH NO.....more frickin' HANDc HOLDING!!!!   :o

What?!?  And I was steeling myself to cheer for BU this weekend. Now I find I'm cheering for Tommies-lite?  Ain't gonna happen.

I am sitting here at a complete loss.  I can't believe this, but I think Royals may suck now, too.  This is a genuine disgrace.

Sorry you feel that way. Just because they hold hands as a sign of unity doesn't deserve a comment that they suck and they are a disgrace. They should be judged by how they perform on the field which they have proven to be the best in the MIAC this year and the fact that you won't support your MIAC representative in the playoffs this year just because they hold hands is being a little childish IMO.

I think Oz was speaking a little tongue in cheek there

I remember Wildcat11 asking what the turf would be like for a 3rd game.

The NCAA has hoops Bethel perhaps was not prepared to jump through like controlling admissions, video, snack stand, security.

BTW, which MIAC stadium is best for rushing the field  in violation of NCAA rules after your team wins.

NO! No!~ Not my karma!

Bethel has hosted multiple playoff games in the past, it wasn't the NCAA requirements that were the issue.

Not so fast Grasshopper. The Dome just happens to have an open date this weekend. Next weekend will be the High School Championship games.
If relocation in the future weeks, the Dome may not be an option.
Dare I say...gulp... relocating to UST  :o

How about playing at TCF stadium - that would be awesome.

I sure hope he was, but since I didn't see any smiley faces I couldn't really tell. Oz, if it was tongue in cheek - my apologies.

OK hazzbeen, that answers that. Now the answer is a committee puzzle somewhere.

Cripes. Tommies-lite. Lower case suck and no exclamation point.

And as far as signs of unity go, I think hand-holding is particularly lame. If they feel all that more unified in the face of my ridicule then they can thank me after they have stopped holding hands and have thoroughly beaten the crap out of StS in their full-contact and violent game on the gridiron this weekend.

And to be clear: I surely wish them luck and hope they do well but I won't be cheering for Tommies-lite.  Sure they can win without my chorus.

Although I maintain that Royal "Stadium" sucks, the move to MOA Field sucks even more.  We had to move a playoff game with PLU to the Fargodome in 2001.  Playing at Clemens would have been 100x better (although the field was not up to the task).  Thankfully, the SprinTurf arrived the following summer.

FWIW - I think the move to the Metrodome is a better venue to showcase Bethel's ability. Yes, I'll grant that it is inconvenient for the players and students to not be able to just stroll over to the field for the game. If there is a large contingent of St. Scholastica supporters (which one would suspect as they are in the playoffs now for the third straight year) they will appreciate the spaciousness and comfort of the dome as well. I think you will see more Bethel alumni at the game as well - again building momentum for a new on-campus playing field/stadium. If the marketing gurus are on their game, there will be folks meeting every fan coming through the doors with literature letting them know about future stadium plans. Who knows when they'll have another opportunity like this venue in which to promote to the audience that will appreciate the efforts? (Sorry to sound like a promotions guy.) And saving the grass for another week is not a bad play either.  :)

Anyone know if this was a Bethel decision or an NCAA decision?  I'm wondering if the option to play later games at Bethel is even possible if they've already moved this one.  Of course, that would mean that Bethel would actually need to beat CSS.  ::)

Looks like a Bethel decision to me.  I doubt the field is too beat up.  They avoided beating it up more last week as we see from the video that they practiced at Mounds View.  They'll play through snow, but if you can move it to a dome, why not.

Shout out to the regular BU supporters here on this board. Can we have an informal gathering during half-time to shake hands and re-live our glory days at the dome this weekend? I think it would be fun to match faces to emoticons (or whatever they're called). Anybody know what sections and levels will be opened for the game so we can can share where to meet?

It is busy with another game.  That one should be really good.  I wish it was a night game so I could have a really good excuse not to watch that Big 12 game in Stoolwater, OK.

In all honesty I think it is a Bethel decision with help from the NCAA.  The field conditions could be an issue, but I think there were other factors.  It is a playoff game so it has to be played.  It could have maybe been moved to Sunday, but that does not work so well with the Baptist.  I attend a large Baptist church in Dallas, and believe me this Sunday thing gets super frustrating.  I've had to take Fridays off from work to accommodate their Sunday policy.  I don't know how much snow the Twin Cities will get, but it could be that they are not sure if it will be able to be removed from the stadium.  That probably makes it tough to use the local HS stadiums.  I think there were also some concerns with light.  The sunset is at 4:30.  Last week things were starting to get a little dark for the games 1PM games.  That could be a concern especially if there is overtime.  Bethel has hosted games in the past, and will likely do it in the future.  If just the stadium was an issue the game would have been moved to CSS.  Trinity in Texas used to host games as a lower seed since they had a stadium that fit NCAA guidelines.

If it were nearby, I'd prefer the Fargodome.  The metrodome is just such an awful environment for games where there are only going to be maybe 5-6K people....too quiet, sterile, and an echo chamber when it is so empty.

I'd have preferred to freeze at the outdoor venue known as Royal Stadium.
