I thought the turf at Auggie Tech was too long.  We had baseball practice there in the winter.  It cut you a lot more easily than the stuff at UST.

I'm talking old-school Auggie Tech.  Worn down Metrodome scraps.

OUCH...I'm cringing just remembering those games and the feeling of the turf burns in the shower after the game

ditto - Way back in the day, the UNI-Dome turf/field was pretty tough on the body as well. Lay a little carpet on some cement & let's play ball. They updated in the early 90's, which was much better & a couple of years ago installed Mondoturf, which is a form of fieldturf.

The alternative was Dakota Field behind the dome. The turf was very worn down and hard, but not abrasive. Though not totally preferable because the 1 to 2 inch gaps in the seams.

So, it was just like Auggie Tech with less chance of being shanked?  :o

More of a chance of a MSRA outbreak. Dakota Field was where the Bison also had their redshirt freshman locker room. It was a pit of despair. Their schedule hung on the bulletin board and the first thing I read was that their day started at 5:45am. Not, roll out of bed, but, in the weight room or on the field at 5:45am.

@ the d3 crew...you guys are killing me! When do the playoff capsules come out?? I mean, it's not like you have to prepare them for 32 teams or anything  :)

Done now. I wish the job were somehow easier!

Some of the potential lighting problem will be solved with the 12:00 start. Although a dreary late fall day can still be pretty dark!

Now that SJU has lights, they just need to worry about getting into the playoffs again!  ;D

Actually, as much as I dislike the lights, they were pretty nice to have last weekend for the SJU/BU game.

Just out of curiosity, what do you dislike so much about lights?  When I played, I preferred playing under the lights.

Saturday afternoon is for small-college football.  No lights necessary!  Also, it's not so much lights, in general, I just think they're an eyesore in Clemens Stadium.

I promise, RF, I'm really not the curmudgeon that you are envisioning!  ;D

Cripes. Tommies-lite. Lower case suck and no exclamation point.

Oz, again my apologies. Please forgive my ignorance, but being a relative newbie to the forum I really don't know what 'Tommie-lite' refers to (other than some type of reference to St. Thomas), and I'm not sure what the difference between 'suck' and 'SUCK' is (other than upper case is shouting) and what no exclamation point signifies. Maybe you can enlighten me so I don't make the same mistakes in the future.  :)

I am with ya Duffman!
I prefer Sat afternoon for any college team I follow, but it is nice watching other teams play during the week & Sat night!!

Saturday afternoons at the Natural Bowl is the small-college equivalent to day games at Wrigley Field (at least prior to 1988, anyway). I didn't like the lights from the moment I heard of their imminent construction, and I haven't changed my mind since.

I promise, RF, that I am the curmudgeon that you are envisioning! ;D

Well, the pundits at D3 Football have picked North Central to win the bracket to face Mount Union. This is not a surprise as they have been ranked higher than Bethel the whole year, but by never more than two places, most of the year right next to one another. I really think that if the game happens it will be a doozy. I think NC has a tougher road than Bethel because Platteville is going to hammer on them like no one else has all year.

I can't wait for Saturday!

Truly a legend.  He and Dick the Bruiser would be at the top of my list.  I used to love when Mad Dog was interviewed how he would sort of foam at the mouth and spit and all that.   :)

I sent a message to two childhood buddies & they had similar stories/memories of the old days of the AWA  :)
