Game time coming up shortly!  Looks like the weather won't be too bad in the low 30's but the main thing is that there is little to no wind. Looking forward to attending the game and rooting on the Royals.

GO ROYALS!!!!

Final: Bethel 34 - Wartburg 27. It was an exciting game and the weather was great for the end of November.  I thought it was an extremely well played game by both teams with lots of big plays, back and forth scoring with neither team ahead by more than 7 points at any time. Neither team turned the ball over, although Wartburg did fumble twice and recovered their own fumbles, one of them in the end zone for a td.

Unfortunately Erik Peterson injured his shoulder toward the end of the 3rd quarter and looks like it may be a separated shoulder so I'm afraid his season is over. But I was really impressed with his backup, Tom Keefe, who was 9-12 for 148 yards and 2 tds, plus a 2 point conversion pass.

It was 14-7 BU at half. Wartburg took the 2nd half kickoff and marched down the field and tied it at 14 which was the score at the end of the 3rd quarter. BU then got a field goal to go up 17-14 but it wasn't pretty as the kicker slipped as he kicked the ball and hit a low line drive that barely made it over the cross bar. Wartburg then went ahead 20-17 on a 73 yard pass, but BU blocked the extra point attempt. Matt Mehlhorn picked up the ball and had an incredible run to return it for 2 points. He should have been tackled about 3 different times but somehow managed to stay on his feet and take it all the way back. However, the referee would only award 1 point as he thought since Wartburg was attempting a single point then the defense only gets 1 point if they return it. So the score was 20-18 Wartburg. BU responded with a 56 yard td pass and converted a 2 point conversion to go up 26-20. Wartburg was moving down the field for the go ahead td/extra point, but then the ref stopped play and announced that BU should have gotten 2 points for the returned extra point attempt, which at the time was huge since it now made the score 27-20 instead of 26-20. Someone evidently texted D3Football and got a ruling and relayed it to the referee. Wartburg did tie it up at 27, but BU got another td with only 1:18 left in the game. Wartburg managed to get the ball down to the 13 with 2.5 seconds left for 1 last play. The qb got flushed out of the pocket and threw it to a receiver about the 5 yard line where he was tackled to run out the clock. It was one heck of a game, especially the 4th quarter.

For a team that wasn't supposed to have much of a passing game, I was impressed with Wartburg's qb as he put it up 44 times and had 347 yards. I haven't seen time of possession stats, but I'm sure Wartburg had a sizeable advantage as it seemed BU's defense was on the field most of the game. BU will have to do better on defense and Keefe will have to play as well as he did today at qb if they hope to beat North Central next week.

I ventured to Arden Hills to take in the BU- Wartburg game.
I echo what RoyalsFan had to say & will add one more thing. Wartburg is young & they will be back for the next couple of years. They have one heck of a ball team.

Hats off the Wartburg for a great season & good luck to BU to represent the MIAC in the race to Salem.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

All signs seem to point toward Bethel playing at North Central, not North Central at Bethel.  I guess we'll see tomorrow...

I could be wrong, but I thought the regional seedings determine who the home team is? Since Bethel was seeded number 1, why wouldn't they be the home team? The only reason I can see them moving it to North Central is because of severe weather conditions.

What signs are those???

Bethel is purportedly the #1 seed and the assumption on here and the CCIW board all postseason is that Bethel would host the quarterfinal matchup.

Major tip of the cap to the backups who stepped up today in place of injured guys. Alley's on D and Keefe at QB ... fine job men!

Love coach J's perspective on Keefe

QuoteHe's the Quarterback who stayed. And didn't just stay, but kept getting better.

Excellent example of selflessness, teamwork and giving you gifts away for free. So easy to quit when you get beat out by an underclassmen. So easy to check out and start to coast. So awesome to see him get his chance today and watch how he stepped up and came through for his brothers in the moment. As bad as I felt for Peterson, I was pumped for Keefe when we prevailed.

Beautiful Duff. Having a little girl myself after first having a son, it's a very cool experience. Wouldn't trade my little Sadie for the world. Soak it up!

Agreed. I think it is safe to assume that NCC will be loading the buses and heading to Bethel next week...

"Severe weather conditions"?...................
Forecast for the Twin Cities next Sat.... H 10   L  -3
Of course, it could be just as cold in Naperville, but they have a much better field.
I predict the game is moved to NC.

Also, I have great admiration for Keefe as a senior who stayed with the program.

Hoping everyone stays safe during Black Friday... :-[

I found that Black Friday is the perfect day to go to the DMV. I had to renew my driver's license. I got there a couple of minutes after 8 am and was in and out in less than 15 minutes. I then did my weekly grocery shopping in a nearly empty store! I love Black Friday ;D
