golf and rugby rules probably were better from the start.  Basketball and football would be helped tremendously by eliminating timeouts.  If they could call offensive holding more often, maybe the defense could disrupt the new passing offenses.   I'd also give basketball teams the ability to decline fouls so no one is rewarded by fouling at the end of games.  Also, maybe a clock to speed up pitchers in baseball?

Actually, MLB already has a 12 second rule but you never see it enforced.

8.04
When the bases are unoccupied, the pitcher shall deliver the ball to the batter within 12 seconds after he receives the ball. Each time the pitcher delays the game by violating this rule, the umpire shall call "Ball." The 12-second timing starts when the pitcher is in possession of the ball and the batter is in the box, alert to the pitcher. The timing stops when the pitcher releases the ball.
The intent of this rule is to avoid unnecessary delays. The umpire shall insist that the catcher return the ball promptly to the pitcher, and that the pitcher take his position on the rubber promptly. Obvious delay by the pitcher should instantly be penalized by the umpire.
How about 5 seconds?

That would be ridiculously quick, as a maximum.  12 seconds is about right as a maximum - now if only they would enforce it! ::)

Exactly. They may as well make the clock .5 second for all good it will do if unenforced.  Rules unenforced are no rules at all.

This might be another factor to consider. If the powers-that-be could somehow stop the batters from stepping out after every pitch to adjust their gloves, spit, check out the blondes in the box seats or scratch their groinal areas the games would probably move at a quicker pace as well. I don't deny that the pitchers are a major part of the whole problem, but we shouldn't let the hitters off the hook either.

sjusection105, sounds like it will be a great event in Maple Lake this Saturday. My court reporter is a native of Maple Lake. Hopefully the Bikini Ice Fishing Team will be making an appearance at the EelPout Festival in Walker on February 22. Can't wait for the trip to Leech Lake! ;D

and I hope to get to Da Bank in  2016, when the Gopher defensive backfield will look like pros as they pick off softlobs tossed by Rutgers QB Phil (50% completion) Nelson

I actually heard about the Diggins transfer last week but was waiting to see if Frank would confirm in print.  W/ Certeza gone who does that put behind Sura?  Any word if the Esseler kid from New London Spicer is going to follow his brother's footsteps to SJU?

Couple of MIAC schedules were posted today:
http://www.d3football.com/teams/Bethel/2014/index
http://www.d3football.com/teams/St._Thomas/2014/index

Looks like the game times are showing up as eastern time. However, only one UST home game is starting at :10 past the hour. Has the evil neighbor allowed UST to start games at a typical MIAC time?
