Complete domination by the Seahawks last night. I felt it necessary to call attention to the fact that there's a Johnnie (Kirchner) reporting to a Tommie (Schneider) in their front office...all is right in that organization!

All the best in the New Year!
The greatest football achievement by a Tommie

Another Tommie who can't handle his alcohol...

Trent Kirchner is a great guy (who of course only has great things to say about his Tommie GM boss and is grateful for the opportunities he's given him). I've had the chance to do a couple of stories on Trent, dating back to when he was still at SJU but was already planning for a career in sports. At that time he was a bit interested in agenting. It's been great watching him climb the ranks in the NFL. His origin story is inspiring for anyone looking for their dream job, whatever it is. He went down to the NFL combine with no connections, no passes but worked his way into the building and he's taken the rest from there, rising from intern to his present position.

But I know there are a couple of Johnnies/Bennie on the board who won't like where Trent hails from, though: Fulda.

NAB Challenge starts in two weeks and the regular season in six, Oz. How are the Hawks looking so far? Any big changes have you especially worried or optimistic?

It's tough to say but I'm hopeful. Hawthorn's biggest superstar, Buddy Franklin, took a 10 year deal in Sydney (what I think will be the Swan's own Hershel Walker fiasco). Franklin is a 27-year-old supermodel dating playboy and was off the two years so I hope his presence up front can be refilled.

We picked up a grade A ruckman from St Kilda during trade weeks (a future captain of their team but they are desperate for young talent which the Hawks have in spades in the minors. Not only did they win the Grand Final last year, but the Box Hill hawks also dominated the minor leagues and won that grand final as well.). A long haired big man, Spegler, will come up from Box Hill to play the forward line and we'll see how he helps overcome the franklin loss.  Speg's is interesting because hawthorn is and always has been a very clean cut team. But very couple years one wild looking player comes along and captures the imagination of the fan base.

During the draft we picked up more speedy young talent including a ready-for-the-big-time recruit from Western Australia that had been passed over the last few drafts by everyone due to off field behavior. Has he matured?  We'll find out soon enough.

We've got an easy first few rounds this year so we won't really know how we stand until round six or so. The preseason comp is really no indicator unless you're a keen judge of athletic stock, kind of like looking at horses in the yard before a race.  But we're all hopeful.

So how many kids will announce tomorrow that they've "signed" w/ an MIAC school?   ;)

More likely, how many kids' high schools will announce that they've done so?

Well there's a lot of good news for SJU coming out today, from the kids and the schools. What the heck, today's a good day to do it when people are focused on it. Frank is tweeting that Mitch Messman from Holdingford and Matt Miller from Annandale will be going to SJU. Also Mitch Berg and Josh Dutcher of Chisago Lakes will be Johnnies. Sounding pretty good so far...

We had one "commit" to U$T at my school today.  Not sure what they had him sign...maybe just a note to his girlfriend or something.  ;)

The people in my hometown told me to wear one of these hats when
I said I was going to have a commitment press conference to go to a D3 school:

"Watch your step on the way out, kiddo, we wouldn't want you to trip and fall on your ego."
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Here's Frank's article about the new SJU players:

Miller's a big wide receiver.  Has anyone seen him play?  Can he stretch the field?

I saw him live against Dassel-Cokato. D-C had a pretty decent d-back who matched up pretty well in the 1st half, but Annandale coaching staff decided (correctly) to run a lot of wildcat in the 2nd half & Miller took over the game. The kid is hard to take down once he gets the ball in his hands.

Remember he is playing in the Wright County Conference, which many consider the toughest 3A/4A conference in the state. Every week he is playing against teams like Hutchinson (4A State Champs in 2013) and New London -Spicer (3AState Runner up in 2013) also Delano,Glencoe-Silver Lake,Litchfiled,Orono,Dassel Cokato,Waconia. It's a tough football conference.

I'm eager to see what he can do in Ramler's offense.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Double O,

The only thing that I have heard is that Glenn has hired a offensive coordinator for the 2014 season... (I Don't know who it is...?)
