See who's throwing the stones.  That is how bad it is.  :o

Ha! Nicely played. (ps. I'm typing this while sharpening my Valyrian Steel great sword ... I only paid $3000 for it. They promised it was authentic. Kidding, I swear!!)

For my fellow GoT nerds here are a few great YouTube vids if you haven't seen them:

Game of Thrones: Complete History and Lore Part I
Game of Thrones: Complete History and Lore Part II

Or maybe the NSFW 'Honest Trailer' version:

Best summary of our books v. Show debate comes at the end of the 'honest trailer'.

Yep! I hope that's the case.

To all you show only, illiterate fools, I arrogantly scoff at your lack of knowledge. (Said in the nerdiest voice I can muster)

Longtime poster, but not as of late...

Quick couple of questions for all you beer aficionados.  I'm back in the Twin Cities for a few weeks and have been pleasantly surprised to find lots of new microbreweries.  Any recommendations? Also, why the strong focus on microbreweries in MN currently?

Just found out that Wischnack's Meats in Norwood Young America will be closing on June 30. This is where I have been getting the Stiftungsfest burger since 2001. Hopefully the secret recipe for the famous Stiftungsfest burgers will be given to another meat market in the area so we can continue the tradition at the Stiftungsfestivities this fall. :o

There were four spectacular games of footy on the weekend.  I expect they'll all be posted to youtube.  There was an eight point game, a four point game, a three point game and a one point game.  Massive contests from beginning to end.  I'll post links here if they do end up on YouTube.

It's been a while since we've had some funnies from the Brighton Golf Club newsletter...

Two women were playing golf.  One teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole. The ball hit one of the men. He immediately clasped his hands together at his groin, fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in agony.

The woman rushed down to the man, and immediately began to apologize. ''Please allow me to help. I'm a Physical Therapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'd allow me," she told him. 'Oh, no, I'll be all right. I'll be fine in a few minutes,' the man replied. He was in obvious agony, lying in the foetal position, still clasping his hands there at his groin. At her persistence, however, he finally allowed her to help. She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, loosened his pants and put her hands inside. She administered tender and artful massage for several long moments and asked, 'How does that feel'? "Feels great," he replied; "but I still think my thumb's broken!"

My favorites as of late are Indeed Day Tripper (APA) and Let It Ride (IPA).  Both have very hoppy profiles

As a fellow MIAC'er you owe it to yourself to try Fulton's offerings.

If you enjoyed Summit Pale Ale I would suggest trying their Saga.

Thanks much!  We did a little weekend pub-crawl that included stops at Fulton, Indeed, and Dangerous Man.  All three were great, but I want to return for a second tasting before picking favorites.  We maintained a brisk (read highly intoxicating) pace and with so many beers, after awhile things started blending together.  A few initial observations from talking with folks on the pub-crawl: 1) the focus seems to be on quality over quantity, which is great for Minnesotans and elevating the MN social scene nationally; 2) each brewery was very different in feel, which might reflect diversity amongst the new breed of MN brewers.  This is a good sign for the long-term growth and stability of micro-brewing in MN; 3) finally, it was pretty awesome that the taprooms were so democratic. A wide cross-section of Minnesotans were coming together over local beer, which must help build community cohesion. We have plenty of wineries and distilleries in the DC area, but they cater mainly to the affluent.  It's nice to see MN going a different direction.

Time for a little Australiana?  Here's a 1957 recording of Slim Dusty singing A Pub With No Beer

Oh it's-a lonesome away from your kindred and all
By the campfire at night we'll hear the wild dingoes call
But there's-a nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear
Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer

Now the publican's anxious for the quota to come
And there's a far away look on the face of the bum
The maid's gone all cranky and the cook's acting queer
Oh what a terrible place is a pub with no beer

Then the stockman rides up with his dry dusty throat
He breasts up to the bar and pulls a wad from his coat
But the smile on his face quickly turns to a sneer
As the barman says sadly the pub's got no beer

Then the swaggie comes in smothered in dust and flies
He throws down his roll and rubs the sweat from his eyes
But when he is told, he says what's this I hear
I've trudged fifty flamin' miles to a pub with no beer

Now there's a dog on the v'randa, for his master he waits
But the boss is inside drinking wine with his mates
He hurries for cover and he cringes in fear
It's no place for a dog 'round a pub with no beer

And old Billy the blacksmith, the first time in his life
Why he's gone home cold sober to his darling wife
He walks in the kitchen, she says you're early Bill dear
But then he breaks down and tells her the pub's got no beer

Oh it's hard to believe that there's customers still
But the money's still tinkling in the old ancient till
The wine buffs are happy and I know they're sincere
When they say they don't care if the pub's got no beer

So it's-a lonesome away from your kindred and all
By the campfire at night we'll hear the wild dingoes call
But there's-a nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear-a
Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer

OZ, Weren't you a Grand Rapidian?

Why is the best athlete to ever come out of your town pulling a LeBron?

Ahem, but the best athlete ever to come out of Grand Rapids is:

•Bill Baker, 22
Grand Rapids, MN (University of Minnesota)

Defense - 1980 Gold Medal Hockey Team

Hockey season is over, I don't have to play along anymore!! :D
That's like saying John Daly was a better athlete than former Vikings QB Joe Webb.

Could Bill Baker do this?
