I second that motion, Hazzbeen.  I read With the Old Breed as well but I liked Band of Brothers better than The Pacific.

My favorite first person recollection of the war is Currahee! by Don Burgett.  It's Europe but I find the raw story telling style in the book really compelling.

I'd agree, on the whole I like BoB better as well. But it feels kinda like deciding between a Ribeye and a Filet Mignon, they are both great cuts of meat!

I think the biggest advantage is that Band of Brothers was based on single cohesive story (just Easy Company) as source material, where the Pacific was trying to tell the story of 2 different companies. The benefit of the latter is you get a broader scope of the war in the Pacific (Guadalcanal, Pavutu, Peleliu, Iwo Gima & Okinawa - almost every major infantry/amphibious battle), but it doesn't take bring you as deeply into the characters as Band of Brothers. That, and the interviews with the survivors were just incredible. You feel like you really know Winters, Compton and Guarnere, et al. When they made the Pacific, most of the characters had died in the last decade. It made me realize how fortunate we were that BoB got filmed when it did. Just priceless to have gotten all that interview footage.

For the coming gridiron season, a little Australiana.  A term, White Line Fever, has become popular Down Under.

It means: An Australian term to describe the radical change in a person's behavior when they start playing sports, aka stepping over the 'white line'. The radical change can result in a normally mild mannered individual, becoming aggressive, loud and extremely competitive maybe even violent during gameplay, once the game is over they go back to their usual mild mannered self.

"Bruce isn't one to start a fight, but once the whistle's blown he gets white line fever and who knows what'll happen."

Too impersonal for me.  I like a genuine person to hand me my beer, not Mr Roboto.  Beer at a ball game is about the experience more than the access, I reckon.

C'mon Oz. What could be better than bellying up to the ol' vending machine and having a cold one with Chicago Tommie?  ;)

I think every living room should have one of these, a huge flat screen and a urinal.

I like how you pay by the ounce.  So, are there any issue with me filling a gallon jug?  ;D

Based on the pricing I heard ($0.38/ounce for domestics), one could conceivably spend about $73/hour on beer.  :o

In my salad days, the Denver Playboy Club card cost $25/ year which was OK but I thought $1.25 for a beer was outrageous.
...... At least I was smart enough not to play pool with a Bunny  ;)

Can I just say that I had to Google the expression "salad days".  ;D

Now I feel old. I did NOT have to Google that phrase. It's sometimes shocking to me what you "youngsters" haven't been exposed to.
