2014, Johnnie Football and So Much More
By Johnnie Red

2014 is upon us, Johnnie football and Johnnie Nation galore,
2013 was seven and three, this year the Johnnies are hoping for more.

Fewer games than last season when the win/loss was by three points or less,
nail-biters with WRF, WEC, UST, AC and GAC, the latter game a distress.

Speaking of numbers last fall, the Johnnies were NCAA D111 leader in attendance;
the 12th time since 2001 in being the leader, the Johnnies fans are in abundance.

2014, 195 players on the Johnnie team as of August 14,
including a group of 11 transfers added this past offseason, call it morphing?

A special effects process in film in which persons seem to change shape or form,
transferring in to help the Johnnies get back to the MIAC title, our norm.

The film will be streaming video of the Johnnie home games this fall,
one only hopes that this new aspect will not hurt our number one fan draw.

Helping to bolster the draw will be the J-Club setting up by the Stiftungsfestivities,
promoting all Johnnie sports through marketing, membership and event activities.

The ultimate draw will be the Johnnie football team and Clemens Stadium,
the latter a Sports Illustrated "Dream Destination," a place of no mayhem.

Coach Gary Fasching in his second year as head coach, hoping for more;
more than seven and three, getting back to where we are nationally adored!

I know my memory isn't as good as it used to be but I swear I checked the UWRF roster either yesterday or today and Andre McDonald was listed...now he's not.  Anybody got any UWRF connections?
Doogie is on the case.  Will update if he gets a text back from Andre.

Augsburg had a nice celebration for Edor's 100th Birthday today.  Video here.  Not knowing much about the old ball coach I googled him and came up with this quote from the first article.
QuoteThe MIAC schedule was generally a struggle for the Auggies in the '50s and the '60s, and for good reason:

The competition included legendary coaches Lloyd Hollingsworth at Gustavus, Jake Christiansen at Concordia, Jim Malosky at Minnesota-Duluth and John Gagliardi at St. John's.

"Holly and I were very good friends," Nelson said. "I never did get close to John."

Edor permitted himself a small laugh and said: "I don't know if Gagliardi still does as much coaching, but he's still there. I remember when he came into the league [1953], there were a few of us coaches saying, 'We'll show that young whippersnapper.'"

How does JohnnieRed have more negative karma than I do?

This is a late but heartfelt thank you to St Johns for the game video. Most appreciated. I am really looking forward to this season. I hope it's a great online experience.

Andre McDonald was DEFINITELY on the roster yesterday because I sent our Kickoff writer a note to check on his status. Guess he checked on his status and UWRF found its online roster lacking.

I bet BDB knows a guy who knows a guy that may know a thing or two about UWRF roster.
Put a APB for BDB  8-)

I see faunch has thrown a Rapala into the WIAC lake in an attempt to land some info on McDonald. Hope he brought a lot of Hamm's because that could be a hard catch. Fredfalcon is the only regular UWRF poster there and even he is hit or miss this time of year.

Stories on Edor Nelson and his contributions to our country and to athletics at Augsburg College. Edor's story is all over the local news this evening as well. A very humble man with some amazing life experiences.

I was really looking forward to seeing him play against the Johnnies.

That's a shame.  I was also interested in seeing what he was capable of under less pressure than he was experiencing at the DI level.  Maybe things will get sorted out and he'll still see the field.

Seems reminiscent of Royce White.

Anyone subscribe to the River Falls Journal?  Our guy Andre made the police report but it doesn't appear to be available online.
The former River Falls mayor (aka FredFalcon) expects he'll be back on the football field at some point.

He's still having a better offseason than Phillip Nelson.

Yeah, it must be something about the Hopkins education process.   ;)

All too familiar of a story though...elite levels of talent that just can't manage to get their act together.  Unfortunate.

Royce White somewhat got his act together with the petty criminal stuff after Minnesota and maintained a 3.0GPA while suspended. His anxiety disorder was a very different story though.
