Two questions:  where is the MIAC football coaches' 2014 poll on who finishes where? Why did SJU not continue the series w/ UWRF? UWRF A.D. tried to get a continuation, he told me, but SJU would not do it.

Fred, here is some information about future non-conference schedule plans for SJU -

I guess at some point you have to stop taking the hit to your strength of schedule every year. Now the SJU schedule is not limited by John Gagliardi's age and bus ride length and the Johnnies can go a little further afield.

Johnnie football in 2 weeks!  That softens the blow of going back to school on Monday :-[
You can also take solace in the knowledge that Dad put the blue beast out to pasture, so he won't need to bum rides to work from you anymore. :)

Mrs Oz and I squared off again on Saturday at the MCG in another Hawthorn v Geelong thriller. This one for second place in the standings and home field all the way to the Grand Final. Thankfully, Hawthorn took this one with a huge second half comeback. I walked up with the girls to get some hotdogs hoping that a great Gagliardi halftime adjustment was on the cards for Hawthorn. It was.

More interesting, at half time a few Johnnies took to the hallowed MCG turf as some international sides ran around for an exhibition at halftime. Somewhere out in this picture is a Johnnie or two:

And here are the game highlights: http://youtu.be/ZrvoouGsM_k

It's going to be a cracking post season this year. Four teams are legitimately in contention for the championship: Sydney, Hawthorn, Geelong, and Fremantle.  There are going to be some fast, brutal games this year as these teams battle for the title. Hawthorn had to beat those three teams in the post season for the title last year and it looks like this year's winner will need to roll through the other three again to do it. Can't wait.

A blurb in the Strib Sports Section about Steve Johnson & Bethel Football.
Here is some proof that coaching staffs (or someone in their proxy) read the nonsense that we post here. Johnson added that after a series of one and done in the play-offs "they were kind of making fun of us up north" (a reference to St. John's fans) and it's been fun to advance deep into the play-offs recently.

The antics of Kilted Rat and Touchdown Tommy as students was pretty classic stuff........
10 years later and one is a Dr. and the other is still Touchdown Tommy  8-)

Thanks, SJU...105.

Perhaps if the schedule makers had known how disappointed I am in no longer being able to watch SJU vs. RF, they would have reconsidered. I am, after all, the oldest Falcon fan in existence, at least that I know of. That oughta be worth something more than aches, pains, and disappointment!    :'(

This is a late but heartfelt thank you to St Johns for the game video. Most appreciated. I am really looking forward to this season. I hope it's a great online experience.

I'm feeling a bit like a typewriter in a word processing world. My primary function on this board no longer is necessary.

I suppose I could pull a 180 and start attending games in Collegeville every weekend from my outpost here in Sioux Falls, SD and gripe about how the university is wasting all that money on producing streaming game content. "Hell, I don't use it! It's worthless!"  ;)

See that wasn't so painful - and I didn't even solicit donations... yet.

I fixed it.

Trivia question of the day.

What former DIII football team, defeated by St. Johns, is playing a DI major power this season?

Minor hint.  John Gagliardi was the coach.

Pat Coleman

Good to see that team is taking last year's success and cashing it in for a big paycheck.

That team is actually coached by a former D-III coach, as well.

People down here in AL aren't treating West Virginia as a DI major power and with good reason. They play in a power conference but have gone 4-8 and 7-6 in the last two years. Two of those wins last year were against FCS schools and one in 2012. So they are 8-14 against FBS schools in the last two years. Major power? Not recently. Or at least not recently by any reasonable contemplation of their results.
