Don't kid yourself, strength and conditioning is huge! It's the difference between a championship and 3rd place (I would say 2nd but we all know sometimes you just don't get the breaks) S&C is so sophisticated and position specific these days. It's all about first step, punch or hand placement, fast twitch muscles etc. It is amazing what SJU has done with the "no" method all these years. I love JG to the moon but, with the athletes SJU gets they could be really scary after a few years of a modern S&C program. Talk about a sleeping giant? Should be another fun year of MIAC football!

Not to mention the mental advantages gained by having "outworked" your opponent. This may have more to do with it than the obvious physical aspects.

Boys of Fall

I'm not sure anyone is saying adding a strength & conditioning coach is the sole answer, but a piece of the solution.  A few years a number on this board were saying that the Johnnies were slow and not as physical as most other teams they were playing.  Last year they seemed to show strength and speed improvements.  This fall we're hearing more of the same coming out of Collegeville.  As most of you also attend a number of high school football games you've probably also noticed the increased Johnnie presence at those games.  They are also putting more emphasis on recruiting, and from an earlier article they are also bringing in a number of transfers.  All of the above should only move them in the right direction.  Now the players still need to perform/execute - but being faster and stronger should help you get to the right place to make a play.

Good points, all. Now drop and give me 1,000 pushups -- I'm implementing Herschel Walker's strength and conditioning program.

I guess another way of saying it is as great as stronger, better-conditioned athletes are, the thing I'm really dying to see again in Collegeville is an All-American QB, WR or RB. Those are the players who make anything seem possible.

They may be on the current roster waiting to get their chance. Remember, that's how legends are made. Nate Kirschner is my favorite example...just killing time waiting to get his shot....

Very true, and because I come from the loins of Fulda natives, Kent Crowley's my favorite example of that.

That's kind of like saying, "As nice as Kate Upton is, I'm really holding out for Emily Ratajkowski."

I don't know who that is, for sure, but my first thought is I would actually not hold out for the beat writer at the SC Times over Kate Upton.

My first question is, are you Amish?

What predictions do we have for the Johnnies webcast on Saturday?  Single cam or multiple?  Replays or not?  Will the audio be in sync w/ the video?
Thoughts?

I think even the Amish would know of Ms Ratajkowski.  Maybe an uncontacted tribe from a remote New Guinea island?

I reckon it will be perfect.  Two cameras.  Synced audio.  Replay.  Graphics.  The fact that this sneaked up on us with no fanfare makes me think it will be spectacular.  It will be to DIII internet broadcasts what the Johnnie game day program is to DIII programs - Best in class.

You have got to love that dry, cheeky Australian humor.  There's been a trend of topless sunbathing in Darwin lately.  Apparently, there was some more in town over the last couple days.  The headline in the Melbourne paper?

White pointers sighted in natural habitat at the Waterfront

Will Coborn's cart races be shown at halftime?  The CSB Dance Team?  Or fixed on the scoreboard for 15 minutes?

This was 100% due to doing conditioning, RDLs, squats, snatches and cleans with our strength coach Ty Stenzel.

The lift or the jersey chasers?  ;)

Glad to know I am not the only one that snickered at that! 8-)

The idealist in me wants to believe that someone in Collegeville has viewed the online production of UST and BU and decided that we must compete in all levels...game programs, win / loss and game programs and thus will knock it out of the park...meaning multiple cameras, crowd shots, etc...
On the other hand the eternal pessimist in me worries that a decision was made to just get the damn thing online and it will be no better than the crap many other D3 programs troll out (Augs, Hamline and Olaf for example) offer.

The reality is that it needs to capture the spirit of a Saturday in Collegeville.  During timeouts the camera(s) need to pan around and show the spectacle that is Johnnie Footballl and market the amazing experience of what it is to be part of the experience of Johnnie Football and Clemens Stadium.

A comprehensive review of the game and online experience will likely be shared by myself and others following the match against UWRF.....Go Johnnies!!!
